The high wall is the cliff over looking a coal pit. They fill up with water after mining is done. Coal runs through the veins of Eastern Kentuckians. The economy was based on coal from the early 1800s through the mid 1900s. Most people went poor after the industry left. Tyler sings a lot about coal. Also KY is covered in clay. You can't dig a foot without hitting clay.
@Hoodyhoo21214 жыл бұрын
In this lyric, I bet he's referring to the "high wall" as in the type of coal mining. Typical coal is mined in "long wall" or "high wall". In Kentucky, there is a good bit of high wall and that's where he's from and where I live.

Tyler has said that he is singing about a place which is Eastern Kentucky. Being from Kentucky I understand the meaning of the words he uses but when I watch these reactions he hits a word in this instance HIGH Wall and I see a little look on your face like what's a high wall so I thought I would explain a high wall is a precipitous cliff that is left when strip mining coal and they reach the upper boundary of a property. It's like taking a 100 foot slice out of the side of the mountain. It's also a good or maybe even a bad place to go sit and think about things such as Take my troubles to the high wall

I'm 53 and can sing...my little brother was a great musician...we used to stay up until daylight playing and singing...he would take country music requests from me and pick the songs out in a few minutes by ear just like you...it was wild... he was killed in a car accident in 2008. Please react to, “Sometimes Wine” by Sturgill Simpson and Sunday Valley. He showcases some pretty solid stuff on his homemade made from complete scratch Telecaster he built by hand.

He sure does! Not many people know of his Sunday Valley days lol.

New subscriber here. Your casual complementary playing along with the song was beautiful. It reminds me of another song I can't quite put my finger on.

Sunday Valley Never Go to Town Again. Really any Sunday Valley songs, Sturgill was on another planet during this time. From there he just got better!

Saw Tyler live last winter in philly. What a performance, it was honestly the best live show I’ve ever seen. The passion he has for this is insane, he gives it his all for the whole damn show.

“High wall” is a coal mine reference.
@isthatwhatemptymeans82223 жыл бұрын
That is true, however it is also a reference to "floodwalls" which are prevalent in his area of Eastern Kentucky wherenthe Ohio, Big Sandy, and Tug rivers will leave their banks forcing residents of populated areas to erect floodwalls.
@cascadeclimbn3 жыл бұрын
@@isthatwhatemptymeans8222 ya, I always assumed it to be a reference to levy walls...hence the follow up with “throw em in the river...”

The High Wall he’s speaking of, Incase no one has said yet, is a flood wall. These are common along cities that lie in the Ohio River Valley.

Michael. Currently going through your jam band lessons on JamPlay. Has absolutely changed my playing forever. I’ve been stuck in a rut for 6 years and didn’t know how to step up my playing. Your way of teaching and breaking down theory has just clicked so well for me. So thankful for you doing that series. I haven’t been this excited about guitar since I started learning. ✌️

I just came about your videos today and I'm already hooked. I loved how you were recommended to Colter Wall and how you broke down a couple of his songs and now you are on to Tyler Childers. I've mainly noticed for both artists how you dabbled in playing the melody that comes to you. I would love to see some videos of yours that you play the melody along to Tyler and Colter. The little bits you have played i feel make these songs pop more than they already do. I love these guy's music and i feel you would compliment them perfectly. It would be cool if you could even play with them live or record together. Thanks for what you do and i can't wait for more uploads!

Tyler is amazing and everything he sings explains where we are from 100%. When I here his stories it brings back my own stories of running around when I was in my 20's, just good honest lyrics and killer melodies. 😍
