My 67yr old mother has been a piano player/teacher and a theory guru for most of her life. I was driving her from Florida to Colorado, and she had never seen your videos, so to pass time we watched your videos and I could see on her face how much joy it brought her to listen to you breaking down the theory and musicality of various pieces. We were able to bond over our shared love of music and theory! She said it felt like we were just 3 music lovers hanging out, listening to music, and talking theory. Thanks Michael!

Any Paradise Valley fans out there?? A lot of folks saying it’s Dead-inspired (which is true) but John’s been playing this style for well over a decade now with a couple albums of his own.

This style of lesson is so valuable for those who are self taught. It’s the discussions with fellow musicians, that I for one have not really ever had, regarding the intricacies of a song that really really allow one to understand the music theory while also cultivating the passion for the art. Great job ❤

These videos were the first to challenge me to think - what is a 3rd, 5th, chord tone, etc. - instead of brushing past the terms, I wanted to "hear" them the way Michael seems to. Fantastic!
@stijn47719 күн бұрын
Exactly this, well said! Same for me. Personally I've outgrown lessons like the Marty Schwartz style, just a bit too slow for my level where I'm at now. Michael here is perfect for jamming along, discovering new stuff, and feeling like you are in the same room with this great musician.

Johns phrasing is some of the best in the world but a lot of people forget that his rhythm feel is just as melting. Glad your ear and reaction bought his rhythm to the front of our focus.

@@jeff1872tI’m 60 and been into music forever, all kinds of genres and been to so many great concerts and followed many bands and singer songwriters and I can honestly say Zach is one of the best. He truly has a talent to reach people deeply. Been following him for 4 years, I know every song, even unreleased. So, I definitely know Zach’s music and love it. Music is subjective so what you like I may not and vice versa. I would advise you to go listen to his catalog before replying and making yourself look foolish.
