It amazes me how so many Rock/Metal based guitarist still have this aversion to Fusion when so many of your favourite Rock guitarists have all been influenced by this genre. From Vai, Van Halen, Shawn Lane & Gregg Howe have all sited McLaughlin, Di Meola, Holdsworth, Scott Henderson & Frank Gambale as major influences on their playing. Matteo is amazing. To take his classical training then add distortion is clever but his phrasing is unique because he incorporates different musical styles. What I like about Rock/Fusion is that it takes away the pressure of just playing standard rock arpeggios very, very fast. Cheers.

This is Claudio Quartarone's guitar technique. I believe he had a significant influence on Matteo Mancuso; they are both Sicilian.

He's basically using conventional classical technique, plus flamenco, for the really fast stuff. You can tell from the angle of his fingers that he has done some serious classical work. He is the most exciting guitar player I've heard in years. Most shredding is tedious but he's a real musician and lets the music breathe.

As a contrast to the Jazz feel, check him out playing the Kinks song "You really got me" instrumentally , with a small orchestra. It will show you his versatility and the guy is a shredder in the most tasteful way. I think he is the best in the world. 🎸 Google all you can find, including his "Drop D" video. He is insanely good. Praised by Steve Vai, Joe Bonamassa, and several other top Guitarists.

I prefer Matteo. Sadly, this video was not doing Matteo's skill justice...he showed way more on other videos(he was playing perfectly for his track, but not showcasing that much) .Check these videos: kzbin.info/www/bejne/eJW4k6WLhpyfma8 kzbin.info/www/bejne/r6OWo6iolK2koNE kzbin.info/www/bejne/Z2aZc3-ZrsiAd6M There is a reason why so many great guitarists mentioned Matteo as an absolut monster and inovator and not Max(guitar greats like Steve Vai, Joe Bonamasa, Al Di Meola, etc).While Max can improvise with incredible flow on fairly easy harmonies (or more natural sounding harmonies), with not so many changes, Matteo has the same incredible flow on Giant Steps, or any complex harmnoy or genre(which is one of the reason he is not that appealing or understood by people that arent at a very high level muscally). His phrasing and laguage is way above what Max showed , and that is not to take anything away from Max. It's ok if you prefer Max, I also like him, just wanted to make the distinction between the two. Also, with his fingerstyle, Matteo can do stuff that is basically impossible to do only with a pick.
@Za7a7aZ2 жыл бұрын
Great tone and great technique...can not be other than his knowledge about music theory is equally good. However...Ostrom has his chops just as cemented and his music education stands like a house too...to be honest Max is at a higher level if you ask me. What max does must be close to the border humanly possible..

Matteo KILLS playing blues or country too, whilst the vast majority of guys who are excellent in those styles CANNOT cross over into his fusion style because they don't have the harmonic knowledge. For example, check out his cover of Brent Mason's "Hot Wired" or his "Blues Shuffle in G".

Actually with no disrespect to Matteo they are a few guitarists who use the exact approach as him… Julio Silpitucla comes to mind… an incredible guitar player… after all said and done Guthrie is the greatest of them all… being able to do with a pick what these guys do with fingers… sometimes he actually plays just with his left hand’s fingers… Josh meader is a beast as well…

Right so first of all. Matteo is not your standard guitarrist. Al Di Meola and Steve Vai have both called him the future of guitar playing. Second this is not his most impressive work. And third here's a video of him shredding to John Petrucci, NOTE matteo is 18 in this vid. And another vid of him playing something non jazz/fusion, where he plays the *BEST* guitarsolo there is on KZbin atm. Change my mind. kzbin.info/www/bejne/Z52bppt6h6qjd5Y - john petrucci kzbin.info/www/bejne/baiTnWRugpiXZrM - Best guitarsolo on youtube

I'm not trying to be unkind here, and I respect all musicians, but I have to ask, why do you think your opinion matters? Matteo has millions of views on his videos, and as someone else commented, he is a once in a generation player. I have watched your videos Andy and you are a good player, but I'm not sure you are in a position to critique Matteo. Neither am I, and I would like to see what the great players of our time think about him. He is incredible!
@andydavid9 Жыл бұрын
Haha I appreciate the honesty dude and thanks for the compliment! I don’t get your comment though, as this is just supposed to be a fun little entertaining video that subscribers had asked me to do. Reaction videos tend to do pretty well on KZbin and I like making guitar related vids. As far as critiquing his playing as if ‘I know better’ I don’t remember doing that in this vid as I honestly don’t 😂 it’s no question that he is A LOT better than me in every possible aspect of playing.
