Hey Tim... so glad you’re back!! Didn’t mean to hound you... I get how life just has to be the priority! It’s wasn’t about the reactions (although I missed them, too) I was worried something bad may have happened to y’all! I checked your Studios page and nothing had been posted there either! (I sound like some weird-ass stalker..LOL) Even tho you don’t owe us, If you can, next time you shout out to your patrons, just give us poor people a heads up, then we’ll at least know your ok!! As someone said below, you don’t owe us an explanation, but family watches out for each other... and the RUSH Army has accepted you into the family!! Great reaction!! So glad everyone is doing well! Congrats on your new house! See you in part 2!!

That atmospheric guitarwork in the middle is really outstanding...I wish there was footage of Alex playing that. It is so cold and desolate sounding. I wonder if he was thinking about a wolf standing alone in the freezing snow, with the icy wind howling?? Genius..

Just finding your site today. I was at one of the concerts when they recorded this. Like all of their later concerts, this one was awesome. Truly gifted musicians. Your reaction years later just shows how timeless real talent can be. You might want to also check out a band called Max Webster. They were the opening act in this show. Tracks to listen to I would suggest Hangover, Only your nose knows and OH war.

I had my headphones on with you, man! "All the World's a Stage" was one of my most played Two-Record Set, back in the Day. Played over 120 times, at least. Such re playability. This was RUSH at their PEAK, IMO. They just launched 2112, and they were ON FIRE. If you don't have this CD, go buy IT!! The live "2112" version could be one of the BEST!! MASTERPIECE!!

Back in the day the live albums By-Tor was a big fav with the lights off & a little, er, 'perception altering substances', total trip, very far out. Amazing stuff. All the World's a Stage is a much under-rated album in my view, it's a fantastic snap-shot of Rush & where they were, learning their live craft but already so able at painting huge sound-scapes....as well as just grooving & rocking your socks off, they are all just so good, so talented.

This was the first concert I ever went to when I was 16 years old back in 1976! Needless to say I was immediately spoiled by the talent level and expected all bands to perform like they did and I was sadly disappointed when I went and saw Aerosmith! And then the next few years I went to see Kansas, Pink Floyd, and Stevie Ray Vaughan in the early 1980s and those are the only bands that lived up to the expectations that Rush gave me.

The thirty two people that disliked the vids are the ones that panned Rush back in the 70s and almost caused them to lose their record deal. It wasn't because Rush was a bad band, we know that isn't true, but this wasn't the musical taste for most at this point in time, and I think the critics were just reflecting that. Fast forward 40-45 years and we know the Rush Army grew mostly by word of mouth, since critics were not really into their music. We know Rush enjoyed tremendous success and established themselves as one of the greatest rock ensembles ever. Their creativity and musicianship is undeniable. Thankfully, open-minded folks like you latched on to Rush and ensured they will endure the test of time! Kudos sir!!!

Rush is known for being such a "perfect" live band, reproducing the songs perfectly live. But in the early days they did a lot of freestyling, spicing things up a lot over the studio versions.
@scottshields1133 жыл бұрын
You mention the contrast between bass and guitar. If you listen closely much of Rush is Geddy and Alex playing apart and against each other. With Geddy playing bass like a lead guitarist and Alex doing some unorthodox type stuff, they are able to create some contrasts that are incredible. Ways Rush could create much in their music and not be limited as a 3 piece band.

I hear you, man; welcome back! Sometimes life can become bigger than the box you have to keep it in. During your absence I decided to fill in a few cracks in my Rush collection by adding “A Show Of Hands,” “Exit…Stage Left” and “All The World’s A Stage.” It’s unfortunate but up here Scandinavia way, finding the early video material has proven to be a challenge but I’m not giving up. I think that I’m now about 3 discs away from completing the entire Rush library; the studio albums have been on the shelf for years now. It’s been fun going through the material systematically, following you at your pace. We are going to be at this for quite some time…. Rock on!! 😎🎸🎶🇨🇦🇫🇮✨

Seen Alex play in 70's doing this song in Fresno, Calif. He was facing his speakers with Guitar in hands, Pedals on the floor, and a another Guitar on a guitar stand next to him. He a plays all 3 parts. He'd bend over and hit a note on the guitar on stand for the feedback... Never seen him do it after that tour... was a shame... I was damn ... Unrated Guitar player...

LOL) Not going to lie, I was eagerly anticipating this reaction! Really wanted to see/hear your response to By-Tor especially (what a F#$king trip this version is!!) Exit...Stage Left may be the best live album for it's sound & production (and let's face it, epic setlist where Rush is concerned), but All The World... showcased the absolute definition of a POWER TRIO! Glad you're back. I prefer this live guitar solo (the one after the ambient middle section) to the recorded version as it has a frantic feeling to it with that raw, crustily-distorted and echo-y tone. The recorded version of course is a great bluesy-rock solo. Also, during said atmospheric/ambient section, with his volume pedal he hits this great chord (10:12) that is slightly off key or something and it's dark and mysterious. I think I hear this same dark chord in the beginning of Distant Early Warning. Also remember, back then that the gear was not as reliable and it was sparse. He had very few pedals here and yet he's creating sounds and moods that most back then wouldn't have been able to make. And he makes it sound musical and like a story. Great reaction, movie score indeed.

To think that they recorded this magnificent live performance when they were just 23 years old! ATWAS is certainly one of my favorite live performances. Of my 31 times seeing them live from 1980 to 2015, my only regret is not getting to see By-Tor played in its entirety. They often segued it into Xanadu immediately after the Battle portion or into some other song the times they played it live. The Hymn of Triumph guitar solo by Alex here is brilliant! That super amped up, space echo-ey sound gives me goosebumps every time. In the End is magnificent too. Thank you!
