In this two-part video guitar lesson series, I will talk about what I feel are the most important elements to focus on when practicing and when creating a practice routine.
By the amount of messages I get on the subject, I feel that many players are confused as to what to practice and when. This leads them to feel they are not getting the most out of the time they spend practicing, causing a lot of frustration.
Before you watch the videos, you may want to download the PDF below which summarizes what I talk about in the videos.
guitarlessons3...
Make sure you watch the videos in full since I will go into a lot more detail than the PDF summary shows you.
My goal for this video series is to help you learn how to create a practice routine based around what YOU want to learn which in the end is going to keep you motivated and playing more and more.
There is also a section (starting at the beginning of the second video), where I will show you how I personally tackle technically difficult passages in music. It is all about knowing how the human brain assimilates new actions and helping it do the same for new guitar techniques in the quickest way possible.
The technique demonstrations show my personal favorite ways of learning a difficult guitar lick.
I hope this helps you guys get the most out of your practice!
Carl...

Carl, these are the two most underrated videos you've ever put up. Your inputs on practice are very valuable to those of us out there who are committed to long term excellence.

Valuable. I tell all my students aside from daily consistency, it’s HOW you practice effectively and objectively. I love learning bits to apply from other instructors like you

Good stuff. Your explanations are very good. Even though we have heard this process before your presentation helps understand it a little better. I have noticed that most good players can play a fast part very slowly as well, even after they have built up their speed. I think this help keep pieces from turning into "mush" after a long period of playing them. I am a fingerstyle guitarist. No good instructors in this area. I need to check out your website and lesson. I've been playing for many years but know I need improvement in some area.

Awesome lesson!!! Explained so very well! Everyone from Jimmy Page to EVH had to do what all us players are doing at some point in their lives,. and that's what has always kept me motivated to become a better player.If they can do it..why can't i? you make an important point..if you play it fast ,you can play it slow. You rock Carl. We salute you!

Thank you very much mate. There are a few things that I can apply to my playing straight away. I am not sure how to do the ear training though, do you just put some music on and try to transcribe note for note? That seems like miles away from my abilities, given that I know little to nothing about theory. Thanks, now let's play!
@robertlepine8801
@robertlepine8801 7 жыл бұрын
Don't worry too much about theory,i still struggle with it and have for years. it makes more and more sense as time passes but playing is more important.Training your ear to what sounds good is all that matters. I've watched vids to learn a cover tune etc and would learn it faster /better if i closed my eyes and would hear the notes instead of watching the guys' fingers. Once you learn some basic chords and scales, you're on your way..you get out of it what you put into it.Cheers

I always loved how Zakk Wylde put it. "Stop thinking of it as practice. You don't practice video games, you just play them. Think of your guitar the same"
