I think my biggest issue, particularly in the beginning was that I’d just avoid things that were difficult rather than pushing through and forcing myself to accomplish them. Even still, I have to remind myself to work at it... also wanting to play fast and not slowing down to get it right; I’d just keep going fast until it sounded decent
@patriciarussell66833 жыл бұрын
That is MY biggest issue too

For me, I wanted to be able to play the more difficult and complicated things so bad that I didn’t quit playing them, and I think that’s what got me to get better at playing

I now have a daily brainstorm session. I plan out a set list, which isn't set in stone and i pick a tune. Ill now go through your tutorial and learn the bones of the song. Then I'll play through it with the song 10 times and record my last time through. I then listen to it critically looking for my weaknesses. Ill then go more in depth on your lessons and work the kinks out. Rinse and repeat until I've got it down! Im learning a tune a week this way, and im remembering what ive learned. Thank you for these lessons!

What u said about working out issues away from the guitar is sort of what I do. Whenever I watch your lessons I usually like to watch first before sitting down and trying to play it.

awesome lesson carl, you are the man....this is an ultra helpful video, i think a lot of us guitar players don't progress at certain times because we try avoiding/procrastinating the things we are not good at, for me (and many others i'm sure) it is 6 string barre chords and especially minor barre chords. we just ignore what we're not good at and play the things we are good at and have fun with like power chords and major chords and songs we love....

Hey Carl. Another guitar teacher mentions the five feelings of learning to play with feelings. Does this help?? I've tried it my self just closing my eyes and just go with feelings and the sound I want to make. Otherwise it seems my playing is almost mechanical.

Playing other peoples music is the best way to learn new techniques/licks to better improve your own music
@strangekitchenappliances23143 жыл бұрын
@@thechuube8442 I don’t think that’s inherently true. I think it’s just as viable to write your own riffs which stress the techniques you’re trying to improve. I think playing other peoples music is good for the purpose of practicing techniques while sounding good but if you really want to drill a technique hard you can just make a lick or pattern on the spot to play and you’ll learn it just as fast. Most of the time I spend practicing is playing my own riffs because they’re tailored to what I want to be better at and the sound I want to achieve.

Good advice. Probably one of the best tutors on here. Would like to give myself a pressie for xmas and sign up to his courses. What I need rather than random videos is to pay and routines. It´s worth paying in the long run. Just one thing, don´t give yourself insomnia thinking about guitar riffs, scales and progressions. Save for the morning after.

Hey Carl - great video, had those moments where I thought to myself - damn, I have never thought about that! :) thanks for your effort! I have a question - you mentioned that while practicing one should not play the same lick, scale etc, but instead take something new and challenging. For me it sounds somehow contraintuitive - I always thought the more new things i start without "polishing" the other ones, the more confussion and unfinished songs, solos, licks, etc. I will have... Even though i understand the benefit, still somehow there is a need for a closure like for example learning something from A to Z. Or did you mean it differently?
