An hour ago I was just wondering how to do this, then I check KZbin and here's Carl being the god he is.

I really dig this lesson because Carl understands how I tense up when I try to pick up tempo. I'd stumbled upon speed bursts myself a while ago while practicing arpeggios. I'd just throw in triplets every once in a while and then went back to eighth notes. My hand and brain didn't freak out and made the transition smoothly (which really surprised me). Then I didn't practice arpeggios for a while and forgot how useful the technique of speed bursts worked. Now I'm going to be using these bursts all the time. In learning to trust muscle memory and my ability to improvise, I'm progressing as a guitarist.

Hey Carl you've helped me and many others to become good guitar players i appriciate every tuttorial you do it helps everyone alot like i cant tell you how much you help people the only thing i can tell you is that you rock and you should keep on rocking!! May you do a lesson for A7x nightmare maybe next time like just the intro and if it gets alot of likes and people want more you could do the whole song just like hail to the king because as you say no point to make a lesson of a certain song if no body wants to learn it you just spend time and effort! ill be glad if you do it! Even if you dont just keep uploadi videos man you rock!

Carl! Really appreciate your lessons that touches on the topic of metronome. Playing on time with the aid of a metronome isn't touched enough in online lessons! It'll be really cool if you could give a lesson on how to count and play on time in a blues context when microbends and certain phrasing makes it harder to count as opposed to playing scalar lines.
@GuitarLessons3657 жыл бұрын
Yeah for that type of playing it is more about feeling the pulse of the beat than focusing on how each beat is subdivided. I know what you mean though when it comes to music styles that are a lot less more mechanical.
@dudleydooright5 жыл бұрын
My method is just to get the fingering for the lick down.. and play it about 1000X over the next few days, usually just watching tv and sitting with my guitar unplugged, relaxed. Repetitions are the key. It's how I learned to play Cliffs of Dover. Most songs don't require that kind of patience but for the ones with the really challenging licks, I'll sometimes spend hours (cumulatively) on one lick. It eventually always comes.

The man don't lie, use short bursts in the beginning. Even with a scale, just do one or two strings and it does trick the mind into doing it with some accuracy.

@seanconsack27864 жыл бұрын
Josh Collins . Josh , using a metronome will help with that a lot. I teach guitar. Speed is a by-product of good technique and control. Push yourself until it feels uncomfortable and than back it off a bit. Your hand will get loose in no time.

You know Carl, it'd be cool if you started making videos about what to treat your guitar with. I see you move all over your Strat like its nothin'. But when I play my SG vs the Strat there's a huge difference in moving all around the fretboard. So, I was hoping you could post a video of some things to put on the fretboard (like oil) to slide around better. Keep up the great videos! : )

Hey Carl, I'm looking to get into lead guitar and I can play some fast stuff on the rythem side like holy wars but I don't really know where to start and I have a little trouble with getting my fret hand up to speed. A good example of that is actually holy wars, I had trouble with the triplets in the beginning putting it down is easy but when I have to go backwards I have trouble. Any tips to help me out. Thanks and keep up with the videos they are great.

PLEASE ANYBODY ENLIGHTEN ME WITH YOUR WISDOM . what is the main criteria to increase metronome speed , if someone could play 16 notes with ease at a particular tempo then increase the speed ? Is this a right theory to GO about ???

this is above my ability but its interesting

Nah, you can do anything with this type of practice not just super advanced licks. It could be a simple chord change or whatever. Try to come up with your own exercises using it. :)
