For me this is one of the most beautiful guitar solos. I'm a newbie and am already able to play the first "easy" part at full speed, and then struggle even at the 0.5x speed, but I will learn this song no matter what. Thank you for great lesson!

@@manmeet2670 I'm still practicing this part almost daily (just 15-30 mins.), and still struggle with the "hard" part that starts from the 7:20, but it's ok - I consider this song my "everest" song - when I will be able to play this song at full speed I can tell myself I know how to play guitar :). But it's fun to practice even at half speed. Are you able to play this song?

I actually learned the song from a guitarpro tab. Came here. realized the guitarpro tab was wrong and wondered why I couldn't get it to sound exactly the same so I stayed for the lesson to play it right. Mostly because I wanted to give my EMG 81/85 combo a try since they were recommended by someone I know and so far in a schecter Omen FR Extreme they sound really great. Took a bit of time getting use to the pickups so close to the strings but I absolutely love them now. Great lesson an it simplified a lot of things guitarpro had in it and it was completely wrong. It sounds close but everyone knows there is a big sound difference in hitting the note on a thinner string and hitting its corresponding note on a thicker string. Both are the same pitch but both do not have the same thickness to the sound. Again thanks for the very detailed lesson.

Just decided to learn this solo and I'm so glad I found these videos, it's gonna be so much easier than using tabs. One thing I noticed around 5:50 is that in the last section before the faster part, after the trills, you play 14th for all three notes on the G, whereas in the original only the first note on the G is 14th and the other two are 12th.

You are simply the best I have come across on youtube .. What amazing note by note tutorial .It makes a lot of sense. BUT how many hours will an average basic guitar player take to learn this piece and play competently.. I can try, but it will not be me :(
@Beltesassar_5 жыл бұрын
I think in about 10 hours you should be able to get this down relatively well
@CompleteProducer844 жыл бұрын
I know you said average basic guitar player, but it really depends on your exact skill level. For this solo, you need to be competent at fast alternate picking, sweep picking, string skipping, trills, and just overall feel since it’s an emotional solo. These skills take most people years and thousands of hours to hone on a level similar to Petrucci, save for the very rare person who learns incredibly quickly. If someone already has all of the skills needed for this solo, I’d say you could start to get it down in about a month if you practice it a half hour per day. Keep at it - regardless of if your level, practicing this solo will only make you better!

I've been playing for about a year and a half. I can't shred, can't sweep, and there's no way I can play this solo. With that said, I'm gonna learn it anyways. I can play all the notes (very slow), and after practicing for a week or two, I am getting slightly better at sweeping. I'll come back to this comment if I am ever actually able to play the whole solo comfortably. (probably in multiple years)

Yes just practice and practice unless you gets perfect..but anyway..guitar lessons has no ending...I've been playing guitar for 8 years..I'm professional now..but ..I have many many more to learn and practice... Good first practice each and every parts in very slow and ..increase the tempo when you gets your notes perfectly done..and as you do it perfectly..then practice in the original tempo with metronome..just practice and practice unless it gets perfect...All the best mate..!

@@joshuakennedy5629 Going good so far! I've made way more progress than I thought I would to be honest. I've definitely got some more work to do, but I've gotten much better at sweeping and playing fast in general. I'd say go for it. As long as you start slow enough and slowly work up then I see no reason to not learn some difficult stuff even if it seems way out of reach at the moment.

Азиз Ахмадович Азимов Hey Aziz, I think perhaps this song is just a little too advanced for you at this point.
