how? It's the most basic concept. You just play a single note in a chord why would you even need a tutorial for it :D?
@danielhughes37587 жыл бұрын
Gapi P Because there's multiple types of muting going on at the same time and the temptation can be huge to play it fast (and sloppy) before you learn to play it well slow. Sweep picking isn't the easiest guitar technique out there unless you've practiced it a lot

*HELPFUL TIP:* For the 3 string sweep (8:50) Tyler uses his middle finger and his ring finger for the B and G string respectively. This might not work for you. Try using your middle finger and your index finger for the B and G strings respectively on this sweep. It seems weird, but if you're struggling with your left hand, this might be just what you need. I tried Tyler's approach when first I started out sweeping and my fingers would just not speed up. Tyler's approach is NOT wrong, but it may not be the best for you, as it didn't work for me. I learned this approach by watching Brendon Small sweep. It works because of the natural angle of your hand being perpendicular to the fretboard. Give it a try.

It's so nice to see a real guitarist who actually uses his pinky (unlike so many guitar hackers who play like they only have three fingers). Notice he plays one string per fret for efficiency of playing and ability allowing him to play with speed AND precision. Very refreshing!
@jtvito85354 жыл бұрын
If u see guitarists not using their pinky, it doesn't mean u can't use it. nothing wrong with that
@RByrne2 жыл бұрын
Some don't need to use their pinky. That's like saying using your thumb is bad, or any other "it's not the right way" bs. It's all what feels natural to the player and what technique they can comfortably use. For example, to play the "Hendrix chord," Jimi didn't need to use his pinky as he had long fingers. I can't play that style chord without using my pinky. And what do you mean by "one string per fret"? Did you mean "one finger per fret"?
@kimmohakala6099 Жыл бұрын
darn hackers those Hendrix, SRV, and Alexi Laiho. 😬
@e.h.584911 ай бұрын
@@kimmohakala6099 blues doesn;t count tho.. It's rooted into three finger scales, all blues is defined by it, so it makes sense. not using the little finger in the other hand will surely have its consquences for dexterity of expression or possibilities this absence deprives the p[layer. not sure about the third man, I guess he is from Children of Bodom(?) - still metal is an offshoot of blues rock and in its simplest forms will have the same technical requirements. I play flamenco and classical and without little finger, that is simply impossible. it just won't be the same. Django Reinhard might be a good example how oinly two fingers could be enough if the aim is to somehow be able to play with disability.

First of all thanks for giving your time and skill to provide people like myself with free instruction. I will definitely give a thumbs up in appreciation. But would like to point out that your position on the neck, which seems arbitrary to me, means literally millions of guitars in the laps of millions of potential appreciative viewers/students are not cut out deep enough to allow your demonstrated left hand position. I was inspired and grabbed an acoustic just to try and found you were too far up the neck. Of course you can contort your hand but that would not be an entry level lesson. of course the fret spacing is tighter way up there but still seems like an oversight. I am not complaining beggars can’t be choosers just hope you see this input for your hopefully long and successful tutorial career. Once again thanks

For me, I used to try and do metronome stuff, starting slow and what not. It helped a bit, but not as much as I'd like. I eventually forgot about trying to sweep, and the past year I've just been working on my raw picking technique in leads and rhythm, and working on keeping my fretting and picking hand in sync at higher speeds.. Since it's related to sweeping I guess, it's massively improved my sweeping without having actually worked on it specifically :p

It's a great video, thanks. I just wondered if the way the fingers are repositioned in the first figure for the arpeggio is correct, as for continuing down in a five or six strings pattern most of teachers use the middle finger for the B string as opposed to the ring finger. The reason is that in the return to the lower strings the ring string would get free to tread on the G and carry on with pinky on D; seems to make it more flowy and natural. I guess it's a case of personal preference. Thanks again.
