I’m 79 and bought my first guitar last Friday. Needless to say this last week has been tough on the fingertips and some arthritis in finger #2 doesn’t help in making chords. Great video helps to motivate the learning process.

Ok, for all those who are thinking they just "can't do it", I'm 62 and just starting. Bucket list sort of thing. I've always thought "there's just no way" I can ever learn to play the guitar. Nate Savage's First Guitar Lesson for Beginners is presented in a such a kind, positive, supportive way that I feel comfortable from the beginning. So, I'm in the process of going from a "can't do it" to "maybe I can" to "YES, I CAN do it". For me it's a process of learning self-discipline, which is not necessarily one of my strong points. All I'm trying to say here is that if I can give it a shot, so can you. The added value for me is that I have to focus focus focus and practice practice practice so it gets me out of my head, and all that "white noise" of life. I can't express how grateful I am to you Nate for your time to pass your talent on to us---talent to play, talent to teach. You've given me one of the most valuable things one person can give another: HOPE. So this is long-winded and some people will think it's sappy, but for me it's important that we just try to help each other make it though this thing called life. Ok, yeah I' grew up in the late '60's in case you couldn't tell.

That’s natural. One of the hardest parts of guitar is accepting that it will be a long journey, with MANY mistakes. You think Eddie Van Halen just picked up guitar for the first time and played Eruption? Everyone has their own pace, but with enough work you’ll get there.

So here it is almost exactly two years since I strummed a guitar for the first time. Somehow, I found this video right away. If it hadn't been for the fact that I learned I could play a song with only two chords, I may have given up two years ago instead of sticking with it. This was really a life-changing lesson. I can play barre chords now, awkwardly, but at least without the buzz. They ring true. I can play along with more songs all the time. I'm at the point where I can play a few triads up and down the fretboard. It's so amazing when you're no longer limited to playing open chords on the first three frets. This has been an incredibly awesome journey, and it started here with this video.

Here in 2019! I recently bought a First Act guitar, picked up at Goodwill for $4.99. It's child size, and compact enough to keep in the back seat of my car. I own an electric guitar, but since I'm still learning, I want to have a guitar with me anywhere I am so I can get to know the strings and frets and the notes they help create. Until now, I've relied on my ability to pick things up by ear, but I found this video and was amazed at how quickly I could learn these chords and play them back by memory, even hours after watching the video. I'm cheap, I enjoy learning how to do things on my own, preferably for free. Which is why I bought that cheap little guitar. And that's why I'm so grateful for this channel! My dream of learning to play music has begun. And to all of you who are watching this and are taking your first steps, don't give up! Think of how much better life is with music, and how lucky we are to have this knowledge base available to us. Do your future self a favor, and pick up your guitar, and start learning those chords.

I didn't understand what I was doing and practically gave up in a week. Now, I'm picking it up again after finding this video and I feel less frustrated. This helped me gain a little more confidence in my learning, and I'm back on track to learning to play guitar again. :)

I always neglected it and let it collect dust because the strings were damaged and younger me didn't really have any competence to give it a try. If I don't have a pick how am I supposed to strum with my fingers? Is there a technique?
@MusoraMedia
@MusoraMedia 7 жыл бұрын
Try holding your fingers together as if you were holding a pick. Strum with your index finger and thumb together. I'd suggest getting a pick if you can. They are very cheap. :)

I am a pianist, trying to learn guitar! I sometimes think that I have very small hands and that guitar will be too hard for me. Not to mention, I'm just starting out with a First Act Discovery acoustic guitar, and I hope it'll act the same as yours. You just showed me that the guitar isn't as hard! With the correct positioning, I'll get it for sure! Thanks💖

@Toby3610

Lots of practice. I'm left handed but have a left handed guitars. I couldn't play right handed. Tried but it was to hard. I know of a couple of people who are lefties but play right handed. They said the first year or so was alot of hard work to get the hand coordination going and for it to feel more natural. In the end they play great plus have a alot more choices in guitar selection. It's an extra step in learning they said. They needed more practice to make it more natural and comfortable. Don't give up. Hope this helps.

Rebbeca Rose thank you. i was just wondering since i heard Hendrix played the guitar left-handed.
@Toby3610
@Toby3610 6 жыл бұрын
There are left handed guitars. Jimmy Hendrix used to use a right handed guitar upside down. Unless you're playing upside down like Hendrix you strum with your left hand and play the cords with your right. So the 6th (or thickest) string is still on top and 1st (thinist) is on the bottom. If you can maybe watch the Beatles play here on KZbin - john Lennon was right-handed so was George Harrison but the bass player (Paul McCartney) was a leftie. Essentially holding and playing the same but you use your left hand to strum rather than your and your right hand to play the chords rather than your left. The guitar is facing the other way.
@stinewatson3875
@stinewatson3875 5 жыл бұрын
Not necessarily. Since you're more comfortable with your left hand, then you should be strumming with your left hand itself. And chord progression is for the right hand.
