This video is the first guitar lesson for absolute beginners. Even if you've been popping around KZbin for a while, you might find some helpful tips in this video. Most first guitar lessons on KZbin start you too far along in the process. The goal of your first guitar lesson is to build confidence and give you a solid foundation.
That's why in my first guitar lessons for absolute beginners I show you exactly what I teach most of my students in their first guitar lessons with me. 1. How to navigate the strings 2. How to navigate the frets 3. How to builds chords and 4. How to put them together and strum them to start learning songs.
You will be learning about the left hand, the right hand, chords, strumming and so much more.
After my first guitar lesson for absolute beginners, you will have the tools needed to learn hundreds of songs. Some of those songs can be found on my website at: www.laurenbateman.com/beginne...
But here is a list of a few of the songs you can learn with my special beginner guitar chords:
Bryan, Luke - Drink A Beer
Chapman, Tracy - Talking About A Revolution
Clapton, Eric - Wonderful Tonight
Cranberries, The - Zombie
Lynard Skynyrd - Sweet Home Alabama
Marshall Tucker Band - Can't You See
Osborne, Joan - What If God Was One Of Us
Pink - A Million Dreams
Pearl Jam - Last Kiss
Rucker, Darius - Wagon Wheel
Sheeran, Ed - Perfect
Van Morrison - Brown Eyed Girl
Young, Neil - Heart Of Gold
Just to name a very limited few songs that you will have access to after my first guitar lesson for absolute beginners.

Among the many things I truly like about your teaching strategy or techniques is the fact that.you erase the myth that it's hard to learn how to play the guitar. By having learned just those simple cords you've thought me, I'm having such a good time playing a bunch of songs such as. "A horse with no name" and "stand by me" . I'm also learning "California dreamin" and your advice about avoiding or substituting the barred cords helped a lot. The definition of true master is someone that makes something look easy. And, that, dear master, is you!! I've been trying to learn from as many teachers as I can; However, You're the best! Thank you so much.

A tip to build callouses: don't even pick up a pick. Fret these strings every day for a comfortable length of time, even more as your fingers get used to it, thereby getting some toughen finger tips. I have a little something I use between picking up my guitar and mandolin, but it's not necessary for a beginner to get familiar with holding the instrument. After a period of time, talking small breaks doing other things, maybe, you should notice it gets easier to fret those notes. Use your pinky as well, because you will use it more often than is presented here. Watch other better guitar players to see what I mean. Then get your pick and hit a few notes from the first frets in as many places up the neck to get the feel with your left hand. You will notice that the notes get higher in pitch the further toward the sound hole you go. Use that pinky too. Try to reach to the next fret, skipping the adjacent fret. That pinky finger will come in handy in the future as you get better with guitar, or mandolin. Cheers, and good luck. Bob

I just want to agree with everyone ! I'm 61 with left hand and arm damage due to cancer. I have a missing artery from my left forearm n my left hand doesn't open completely but you teach with patience n options that I'm doing it. I've been searching with tears through other sites. I'm also learning that I can put my thumb in whatever position it wants to go in so my fingers listen to me. It's my ring n pinky that have the most trouble. However I just noticed if I place my fingers down from pinky to pointer then i have more flexibility n a better chance. I played intermediate level at 25 but Ive got to relearn ...grateful to find your site n will look at your lessons.

I’m planning on playing horse with no name by next weekend! Knew this was some kind of kismet. Horse with no name is the first “real” song I learned on my flute way back when. By far the best teacher! I started learning to play 7 weeks ago at 68 years of age. I am learning for the most part from a very well constructed manual which is great. However I find your videos extremely helpful and a pleasure to help learn from. Did I notice that when you strum it is on a slight angle? I think my strumming might be too vertical! Thanks for the patient and considerate way you do the videos.😊
