Nice! I learned Dorian as a young blues rock player- a bunch of Santana and a few Allman Bros licks and lines open up with that mode. I’m going to work on adding some Phrygian flavors in…my ears are finally ready for those. Thanks!

This is well done! I have found that those are the only three modes you really need for jamming along with the majority of contemporary music. I also found that most bluesy rock songs sound best using Aeolian in the same key that the minor blues matches best, like most A minor blues songs sound best with A Aeolian, which is C major, but then you can still play the Dorian mode that matches it up on D Dorian, which is still C major, and E Phrygian is still C major but somehow sounds very different. I think your method is great because I learned those modes simply by seeing how they related to the pentatonic scale, which is super easy to memorize in every key. Then I realized that each pentatonic scale contained 3 different major scales inside it by applying these different modes. Of course, there's really more than 3, but those three are the variations that are totally jammable in any key, so they show up a lot in modern music. If you look for backing tracks to jam with, the majority are for Dorian or Phrygian, but almost all of the plain minor blues tracks sound perfect with Aeolian mixed in.

Idk about phyrigian , prob replace that with harmonic minor, and you need some more flavor than just minor. Def need the good ole Ionian (major scale) scale which gets a lot of use, and when it comes to playing over dominant chords mixolydian is the best. Basically using those two major modes is like mixing in some major pentatonic with your minor pentatonic.

after looking through many diiferent channels that teach the guitar, i can safely say that Guitareo and Steve Stine's channel are the best for learning the instrument. You don't need any other channels except these two to get to intermediate level or more. This is just an honest opinion after a year of learning the instrument. The best (and, let's face it, only) place from which to perceive a thing is another thing that's not the thing; the best place from which to hear one mode is sometimes another that you hold up in contrast, so it's all about movement, keeping the flow, seduction through offering and then withdrawing. The thing is the motivating but unattainable desideratum; the modes are the framework by which we modulate our distance from or closeness to the thing. To learn modes as scale patterns can be a great way in the door, I think; I approve this lesson.

I'm on this for a few months : starting 3 modes from the pentatonic minor, and the 3 others from the pentatonic major . Well I still have enough stuff with that, don't want to bother with Locrian ;-)
