Hi there. Thanks for your videos. I was hoping to use the GT1 in the effect loop only for modulation and delays while entering with wha-wha and overdrives into the normal Amp input. Would this work by connecting the "Send" of the effect loop to the GT1 input and the GT1 output to the Amp return?

I'm guessing you have to buy an external footswitch to be able to switch between channels?
@GuitarNTabs4 жыл бұрын
Hi there, When connecting through an amp's Effects Loop Return, you bypass the preamp-section on in amp, meaning only the speaker will be active. Channel switching on the amp is not possible, since all knobs, EQs, etc. are disabled, due to the Effects Loop Return connection. If we're talking about switching channels on the GT-1, then you have the onboard CTL1 and the option to buy an external footswitch, which will give you 2 extra footswitches, for Assigns, etc. I hope this helps - if not, then please let me know, and explain your question further. Cheers.

@GuitarNTabs4 жыл бұрын
@@omarriadelhamshary7345 - Hi again, Sure, no problem at all, I always strive to answer viewer comments 🎸 The beauty of the GT-1, and any Boss multi effects processor, is the Assigns. The GT-1 offers a total of 6 Assigns, per patch. The CTL1 will accept Assigns, and you can have multiple Assigns on a single footswitch. Adding an external footswitch will open things up a little more, in terms of Assigns. A good product would be the Boss FS-7, which is perfect and smaller in size, compared to the Boss FS-6. So in your case, if you need to switch between effects, or activate different effects, then you need to use the GT-1's Assigns, and set them up to do exactly what you need. If have videos on that as well, search my channel, they will be of help. Generally you can have it all within ONE single patch. I use the Assigns to give me a clean sound, an overdrive sound and a solo boost, all withon ONE single patch. The Assigns won't assign specific patches, only effects and parameters - but the UP and DOWN footswitches will take care of switching between patches and presets. For example, on my clean sound I have the PREAMP, FX1 and REVERB buttons ON, now, for the overdrive sound, still within the same patch, I Assign the CTL1 to turn off the FX1, but at the same time turn ON the OD/DS and DELAY buttons. Lastly, for my solo boost, I will assign the OD/DS Solo parameter to be activated along with the delay feedback or level being increased. I hope this makes sense. Let me know.

I thought the speaker models only worked when using the headphone/line out output selection. ?
@GuitarNTabs3 жыл бұрын
Hi there, Brandon. Thanks for your comment and question, it's greatly appreciated. The speaker models are designed for use with line equipment and headphones, that's correct. However, when an amp has an Effects Loop, you can use the Effects Loop Return to connect the left output from the GT-100. Using the Effects Loop Return will bypass your amp's preamp section, meaning the EQ, channel switching, and in some cases also the volume. If there's a master volume, then you should be able to adjust the volume there. Otherwise the Effects Loop will have some form of knob got adjustment. You use the Effects Loop Return to be able to use the GT-100's preamp models, only using your amp's speaker(s). In some cases it might be a good idea to also turn off the GT-100's speaker emulation. I hope this makes sense. If not, then please let me know. All the best.

Thanks
@GuitarNTabs4 жыл бұрын
Hello there, Henry. Thanks for your comment and question, I appreciate it. All patches in the GT-1 are created at various volumes, sadly enough, but it's like that on almost every MFX you buy... I also find that most Factory Presets are too extreme and only really there to show how muchthe unit can do - which is not always for the best... That being said, what you're asking is a common question/issue, and it's a matter of leveling out those patches with each other. It's easier said than done, but a must, in my opinion, if you want to get the most out of the effects and patches. The first place you start is at your amp, without the GT-1, and have that set to the proper volume. If you're not using an amplifier, then you start at the preamp section in the GT-1. Let me point out, that it's very important to have the proper Output Select picked, on the GT-1. It should match the equipment you're connecting the GT-1 to. If you use your own amplifier, then always make sure to turn OFF the GT-1's onboard PREAMP-button. Now it's a matter of going through each effects, which is ON in the signal chain, and toggle between ON and OFF; in order to listen for any increase or drop in volume. Mostly effects like Overdrive, Distortion, Compressors, etc. will add volume or gain to the patch/signal chain. But go through every activated effect, and listen for a drop or increase in volume, when you toggle them ON/OFF. I hope this helps. If not, then please get back to me, and I'll be happy to assist further. All the best Cheers.

These tones sound night and day better (more full and tube like) than the line out tone demos. I am curious to hear the difference between using the front end input of the amp vs the effects loop return that you used here. Is there a big difference ? Does using the return of the effects loop disable all knob control ( EQ, volume, Reverb etc..) on the amplifier ?
@GuitarNTabs4 жыл бұрын
Hey there! Thanks for your comment and question, I really appreciate it. Indeed, the tones are great, and full of life and sustain. I've just re-watched, and I'm impressed as well, haha! Generally the front input of an amp is used to connect the multi effect if you only want to use the multi effect for its effects only... Your amp will do all the "amp stuff" and the GT-1 will provide the effects, for example, overdrive, chorus, delay, reverb, etc. It's important to make sure the GT-1's onboard PREAMP-button is turned OFF, when connected this way. You don't want to have the GT-1's PREAMP running, along with your own amp.. That causes problems.. Also, the Output Select should be set to Small Amp, Combo Amp or Stack Amp - depending on your amp. The Effects Loop Return is for bypassing your amplifier's preamp-section - meaning, all the EQ knobs, etc. and only leave the power-amp section - the speaker(s) - running. This enables you to use the GT-1's onboard preamp and cabinet models. Along with its effects, of course. The difference is the way you want to use the GT-1, as explained above. You might want to try and turn off the Speaker types on the GT-1, because you're using your amp's speaker for outputting the sound. @@obendaperkins5574 - You're welcome. I have a video talking about how to connect the GT-1 to a DI box, yes. Make sure that the level on the RP80 is set at a good volume too :-) If the MASTER volume on the amp isn't working, then try one of the other volumes on the amp, I believe there's more than one, if I remember correctly :-) Here's a cool tip you can use, since the ID Core has a stereo FX-Loop. If you want to run your RP80 in stereo, instead of mono, as I eplained above, then connect one jack to the left out, as I explained above, and another jack cable to the right out of the RP80. Then make sure to connect the left out from the RP80 to the left return and the right out to the right return on the amp - you'll now be able to run your RP80 in stereo through the ID Core's FX-Loop :-) See if that helps :-)

GuitarNTabs this still does not work. It works while plugged in the front of the amp and it works if I have it in the fx loop (send>rp80> return) and (guitar>amp) but it doesn't work like this (guitar>rp80>return)

I'm running the GT1 through the return fx loop on the back of my Marshall. It disables all knobs on the amp (which I was aware would happen), however both volume knobs on the combo amp are also disabled. Now i'm stuck with just the volume control on the GT1. Do you have any recommendations on controlling the volume?
@GuitarNTabs6 жыл бұрын
Hey Chris. I believe we've chatted before, right? Doesn't your Marshall amp have a dedicated knob for the level of the FX Loop?? I know that my Marshall amp has - on the front. Some other amp might have it on the back, beside the FX Loop. How's that looking? Let me know what you see. Best regards.
@danielcassiedy88794 жыл бұрын
@@GuitarNTabs I think it's normal if all the knob are disabled while running the multieffect through the fx loop return for some amplifier. that mean, we are using 100% the multieffect system. In this case, he can adjust the level on his multieffect. Correct me if I'm wrong🤘
@GuitarNTabs4 жыл бұрын
@@danielcassiedy8879 - Exactly, that's the case. There will either be a dedicated volume knob for the FX Loop, or it's controlled via the multi effect.

I know for other gt series, you can set it up to switch channels for your amplifier. Can you do that with the gt1?
@GuitarNTabs6 жыл бұрын
Hey there, beanbot12 :-) Nice to hear from you! No, switching amplifier channel with the GT-1s isn't possible. The GT-10 and GT-100 both have a dedicated jack for the called AMP CONTROL. The GT-1 doesn't offer that.. :-) Hope this helps! Regards.

Great video! I know people normally say not to run distortion and overdrive pedals in the effects return, but in this case would you say that it’s okay to do it? It sounds good to my ears.
@GuitarNTabs2 жыл бұрын
Hi there, Moises. Thanks for your comment and question, I greatly appreciate it. What people mean is, that you shouldn't run distortion/overdrive through the effects loop - meaning, both the send and return of the effects loop. That's right, it's not meant to be used and connected that way, but if you only connect thtough the effects loop return, then it will only bypass the amp's preamp section - which is the EQ knobs, etc. - and leave the power amp section running, which is the speaker(s). This will allow you to use the preamp models of a multi effects unit, like the GT-1 in this case, and that's a great way to do it, with absolutely no issues. In that context it's completely alright, no worries. As long as it's only the effects loop return, and not both the send and return. I hope this makes sense. Let me know if you need anything else. Cheers.

I'm running my gt-1 through an unknown amp, I'm using a 3.5mm to 6.5mm (male to female cable). The 3.5mm was connected to the PHONES output of the gt-1 then the 6.5mm to the AUX-IN plug at the back of the amp, with that I'm setting my gt-1 output select to LINE/PHONES

Hey there! Thanks for your comment - I appreciate it. I see, and that seems right, so no real worries there :-) Does your unknown amp have an Effects Loop? Best regards Cheers!

@@GuitarNTabs cheers! Regarding to your question, no it doesn't have an Effects Loop. Once I connected the gt-1 to the aux-in port of the amp it automatically disables all of the amp's knobs. With that my full control on the volume and eq is on the gt-1 itself and I have no problem with that and it also sound nice to me.
@GuitarNTabs6 жыл бұрын
@@rdg6045 - Hey there! Aah, that's excellent! Your aux-in then acts like the Effects Loop Return would do - bypassing the preamp-section on your amp, leaving the power amp-section (the speaker) on! Could I do the same thing with a tube amp? (Hot Rod Deluxe)
@GuitarNTabs6 жыл бұрын
Hey there, Mike. Thanks for your comment and question - I appreciate it! :-) Sure, as long as the preamp you want to use features an Effects Loop, which I believe the Hot Rod Deluxe does. On a regular amplifier you would have Effects Loop Send and Effects Loop Return, but on the Hot Rod Deluxe, and most other Fender amps, the two are called Preamp Out and Power Amp In. The Preamp Out is your standard Effects Send and Power Amp In is your standard Effects Return. You would then have to use the Power Amp In, to use the Effects Loop Return. I messaged Fender about this, some time ago, and that was the answer I got - if you're in doubt, then please contact them again, just to make sure :-) In this case we only need to use the Effects Loop Return (Power Amp In), because that allows us to use the built-in preamps and cabinets from the GT-1, and other multi effects, generally just using your amplifier as a speaker, to output the sound. Like you normally would with studio monitors, PA-speakers, etc. We are only using the Power Amp section (the speaker(s)) and not the Preamp Section (EQs, channels, etc.) If that makes sense :-) You'll find that some of the knobs on your amp will be bypassed, but there will be one or two still active. These knobs, on your amp, will allow you to dial in the level/input from the Effect Loop Return :-) I hope this helps, but let me know if you have further questions, or need help :-) Have a great weekend! Cheers.

Excellent, that sounds great, Mike! :-) Yes, normally I use the GT-1, via USB, straight into my laptop for recording and practicing - it's great for that :-) You're talking about sending a DI signal to your PC? Hi, great tutorials, have just got a GT1 and am connecting to a line 6 spider iv 30W, is it best to connect to guitar input and set spider to clean and all spider effects off or is their another way of connecting? thanks
@GuitarNTabs7 жыл бұрын
Hey Timm. Thanks for your comment, I appreciate it! :-) The way you connect it really depends on how you want to use the GT-1 with your other gear? Do you want to use the GT-1 for effects only?? Or what is your plan exactly? By knowing that I can much better help you further :-) Cheers.

Hi, thanks for the reply, mainly want to use for patches to switch between the genres i play, this is at home not live, does seem as if the way i have connected the gt1 and the spider clash a bit? as if the gt 1 pre amp is being modelled by the spider? if thats the right way of describing? thanks
@GuitarNTabs7 жыл бұрын
Hi again! You're welcome, no problem :-) Okay, so if I understand this correctly, then you want to use the GT-1 for effects only - for example, overdrive, compression, delay, reverb, chorus, etc. and not for the GT-1's preamps. When using the GT-1 with your own amplifier, then you have to make sure that the GT-1's preamp is turned OFF, otherwise it will not sound good. You can check to see if the GT-1 preamp is on by looking at the button labeled "PREAMP". If the red light is on, then the preamp is active, and I believe it is by default. To turn it OFF, press the PREAMP-button once, and the led will go out - then make sure to save the preset. Also, make sure to select the proper OUTPUT SELECT for the GT-1. If you are connecting the GT-1 to the input of your amp, then set it to either SMALL AMP or COMBO AMP - see which works the best :-) Let me know if this helps! Cheers! :-)

@GuitarNTabs7 жыл бұрын
Hi! Connect the GT-1 like this: Guitar to input on GT-1. Left output from GT-1 goes to Return on your amplifier. Make sure that your amplifier is set on its normal channel/clean channel. Given that your amp might have more than one channel.. Depending on the amp, some knobs might work, and some might not.. You'll have to try and see what works. Well, on my Marshall amp, the one I used in this video, I had to turn the Effects Loop Mix all the way up. If I didn't then there would be no sound. Remember to check for that! It makes sense, since you're connected to the amp's FX Loop then it also needs to be turned up :-) Let me know if that works :-) Cheers!

The GT-1 is an amazing little unit - I can't play without mine now ;-) Yeah, the smaller the amp/speaker the more you have to compromise with the sound quality, sadly enough.. Alright - I see! The amps and cabs from the GT-1 is also really great! I use the GT-1 for both effects and amps/cabs - straight into the mixer/pa - when I play live :-) Well, for your set-up I would then go for an amp with an FX-Loop, because that way you'll be able to bypass the Preamp-section of that amp, by connecting the GT-1 to the return of the FX-Loop, and then use the built-in amps and cabs from the GT-1 :-)

Can i use the input (returns) of the Marshall MG100HCFX what will be the output select>?
@GuitarNTabs7 жыл бұрын
Yes, every amplifier with an Effects-Loop can be used by running the L (left) output from the GT-1 to the Return of the Marshall amp. Set the Output Select to Combo Return if it's a combo amplifier. Combo amp = small to medium amplifier with either 1x12 or 2x12" speakers. Or set the Output Select to Stack Return if it's a stack amp setup you're using. Stack setup = a top + a cabinet. :-) Remember, by running the GT-1 through the Return of your amplifier, you'll bypass the Preamp-section of your amp, and only the Master-section of your amp will be available. That would, for example, be the master volume, reverb, etc. All the EQ knobs won't respond, because they're a part of the Preamp-section - which you've bypassed. The biggest reason for running a multi FX through the Return of an amplifier, is so you can use the built-in amp and cabinet sims from the multi effect. I guess that's why you want to run it like that, right? The speaker of your combo/stack amp will basically just be the 'monitor' or speaker, which will output the sound. Just like if you were hooked up to a mixer/PA. :-) I hope all this makes sense! Otherwise please let me know! I'll be happy to help out further! Cheers & thanks for watching :-)

Hi Ben :-) Thanks, and thanks for watching - I appreciate it! What problems, exactly?? Well, yes, I've had no problems using the GT-1 through Cubase. Unfortunately I haven't made a video about this, yet! But I will make on soon, now that I know some people are looking for it! :-) I connect the GT-1 (via USB) to my laptop, making sure that I've installed the correct drivers from Boss, and then open up Cubase, and make sure that I set the Driver Settings in Cubase to GT-1. I believe the menu is called 'Device setup' in Cubase. From there you would have to go into the Channel Mixer on the channel you've created. In that Channel mixer you have a Gain knob, and you would then have to match the input level with the output level in Cubase. You should be able to see the input and output level in the utility-menu in the bottom, in Cubase. I hope this makes sense, otherwise then please let me know! I'll be happy to help you out and perhaps make a video for you :-) Cheers!
