Ankit Trivedi is a Gujarati language poet, writer, columnist, and emcee from Gujarat, India. His significant works include Gzazal Purvak (collection of ghazal) and Geet Purvak (collection of geet). The Indian National Theater in Mumbai awarded him the 2008 Shayda Award for his contribution to Gujarati ghazal. He has received the Takhtasinh Parmar Prize literary award, Yuva Gaurav Puraskar award, and the Yuva Puraskar award. He edited Gazalvishwa, a Gujarati ghazal poetry journal, from 2006 to 2007.

Schools in Gujarat should promote reading of Gujarati literature and novels. If we go to other regions of India, they have book/novel writers in their own language and lots of people buy and read them. While Gujarat is lacking a lot in that prospective. Last two generations, very miniature Gujarati literature has been published and if same will go on for another 2-3 generations, Gujarati language will die. A language without literature is bound to die!

I was reading one article at one place regarding Gujarati people where it said, Bengali people & students read Bengali language, every year, lots of new Bengali literature gets published and people are eager to buy it and read. In Gujarat, most literature is old and new literature is not coming. The one which is coming is mostly religious. If Gujarat can’t produce diverse literature in Gujarati and people don’t read it, in future, language is going to die.
