I'm here for this old post to see how it works on my 2014 RT LC. I believe it's the same even for the plug in connector. But I can't seem to pull it out even after twisting. Good video!

I just ran upon this video and I can NOT thank you enough sir. I was told the carrier bag is NOT removable. I was buying a 2015 BMW 1600 GT but changed my mine and am now going with the tan colored GTL model for the simple reason...the paint color. And being able to remove this ugly carrying case is all the reason I needed to switch models. I will install the GT seat however. I'm tall and want more leg extension while riding. THANKS AGAIN.

+Peter Smith Yes, the new RT's are the same. The previous ones don't have the lights, and it's just turn the key, grab the handle & walk away.

This was a very helpful video. I'm sure it's all in the owner's manual, but seeing it done registers in my primordial brain better. Can you do a vid on proper wheelie technique? That is missing from my manual completely.

I have a 2016 1200RT without central locking. I just bought the electrified top case and can't find the plugin on the bike. I too think it's missing. How can I add the connector?

Hello, unfortunately central locking (required for the lighted top case) is a factory option, not a dealer installed one. You should contact your local dealer for assistance to see what they can do to help you.

Is the plug on the R1200RT the same? I cant seem to find the damn thing. Just got the new case and cant plug it in.

Yes, they're identical. The barrel connector is secured under the rear seat. It's at a crosswards angle to the bike.

Ah man...put the seat back on to show us how great the bike looks without the top box. One of the reasons you would take it off. Lost opportunity.

My god they look hideous with that top box. No wonder they remind people of scooters. I'm so pleased I never bought the GTL version. Pity they about those massive mufflers but I can't justify the price of the aftermarket ones.

I have and love this bike except this. This is the most ridiculously bad way to have a top box come off because of the huge oversight. It's a fking pain in the arse to remove the damn thing when it's full of stuff. Every other top box has an external way to remove it so you don't have to empty it to get it off
