Sorry I am not agree with you. According to you GFCI is ground fault circuit interrupter that means it protects against ground fault or earth fault. But you told me something about leakage current. Pls clear my question.

G brother leakage current means current is dropping missing from our circuit..so that leakage dropping happens through ground or earth path.. In GFCI detects and trips when current is leaking through ground or earth..
