Was there seven times 1974- 1995 as a DoD civilian. I think we always landed east to west. Three time on an EAL 727 charter; three times on C-141 and last time on the Miami Marlins MD-80.

Yep...it's an NAS. "Check wheels down" call!lol! I was flying out of PAE years ago and one of the P3's from Whidbey was doing crash and go's down there. The tower gave him his clearance to land and the pilot responded "Cleared to land, wheels down..." to which the tower responded "Always makes for a smoother rollout"!lol!

That was cool. When I was a medic in the Air Force we flew in on C-9 Nightengales, usually from the other direction depending on wind direction. Pilots have to go through special training to land there because of the hard banks - it's very much like a roller coaster ride. Splendid flying guys.

I did these flights in the Embraer 145 while flying for Envoy/American Eagle. Something fun and different. "Do not fly over any land mass on departure." was part of our takeoff clearance to the east. Fun times.

Absolutely beautiful, and great landing, right on the coast apparently. Have friends who have sailed into Cuba, and 2 military that boated to it, but no one has ever flown into it until now. Just wish you could have shown more, although realize that kind of passenger/work doesn't allow filming.

I think the Navy controller wanted to hear you verify "3 down & locked." Very pleasant area... disregarding some of what goes on there. I assume your pax didn't want the return flight recorded for KZbin? They must be special, to get a civvy charter vs. regular flight out of there. Plus, the destination of San Diego gives a hint of who they are or work for :D.

Been there many times while in the Navy. I was with VC-8. Love that approach. You should see a C-5 Galaxy try it. Noticed that they have widen it out a bit. I remember a much tighter turn to final.
@CorporatePilotLife6 жыл бұрын
It used to be a much tighter turn, they used to make you stay inside the fence line. Not sure why it isn't an issue anymore.
@Intruder7306 жыл бұрын
Corporate Pilot Life Well.. quite a few accidents. I remember in the 92,93 timeframe a Dc8 crashed and not too long after a C130. I saw a lot of go arounds and touch and goes. Now the most impressive thing is a C141 when it ised to be inside the fence......uff

Just off the approach end their are large boulders that surround a small swimming area. They prevent sharks from attacking. I did not bring my swim suit, so I stripped down to my skivvies.

I love this. I was a controller for years. in 1983 I was assigned to NYC common IFR room (during the strike). Working Biz jets can always be a challenge but you two have it together. I was wondering, have you had any videos with the IFE? As a controller we were taught to get SOB, Fuel remaining and Nature of emergency. I know with dealing with the problem, and us asking 101 questions it must be a problem. if you ever get to ROC let me know I'd love to get an autograph. Keep up the great work.
@CorporatePilotLife6 жыл бұрын
We don't have any IFEs on video. It the years Jon and I have been flying together, we have only had to declare 2 emergencies, and they were both several years ago. I certainly don't wish for an emergency situation, but should we have one in the future, hopefully the cameras will be rolling.

In 2001, 3 days before the twin towers came down I was in a Cessna 172 dropping rose petals over a mountain church in Italy for a couple getting married. The Gran Sasso mountain Abruzzo. I opened the door and let out the rose petals for the couple but we had engine failure - bees in the vents - or wind sheer - flew into a ravine and crashed into the tops of trees..engine at idling...All three of us survived. I put my faith in God and the pilot..everything was smashed - wings twisted instruments smashed and 5 bags of roses around us....but not one mark on each of us...Miraculous...probably windsheer off the mountain too. Took us a while to get out the trees ...

My dad was a RAF pilot and he said that the pilot is sad, he's a sad pilot. He squirted his mood, until he defeated him with cancer. A month before his death, he stopped joking and I knew that the end was near. He supports family tradition and I am cheerful by nature. Do not sometimes make a barrel with the president on board. That's it. Regards.

@ernestoborges88557 жыл бұрын
why for landing in Guantanamo Bay Navy you pilots cant make a stablich APP?
@CorporatePilotLife7 жыл бұрын
Ernesto Borges I'm not sure what part of that approach you are referring to...it is about as stabilized as possible in that situation.
@ernestoborges88557 жыл бұрын
Corporate Pilot Life I mean a straight approximation, for example: the LOC and then the G / S. And not a closed approach.
@CorporatePilotLife7 жыл бұрын
Ernesto Borges This runway has no LOC or G/S. We executed a visual approach and the tower requested a tight base to final in order to limit Cuban airspace encroachment. Also, there is a large hill on short final...this is the reason for the radar altimeter calling "500...400..." at such an early point.
