Gotta say I have been extremely impressed with this controller, especially at it's price point of $80. Been using it for the last few days, I would say I like it as much if not more than my elite 2 and battle beaver custom controllers. Wish the trigger stops had a little less travel, and if I'm nitpicking the bend on the bottom two paddles is slightly odd, but it doesn't impact my comfort or gaming at all. The sticks feel great and the controller is very responsive overall. Thanks for the review. BTW I got it on Aliexpress because I was tired of waiting for it on Amazon. Got it in about two weeks and everything is fine but I would have rather went the Amazon route as the seller there seems to be very active on Reddit and appears to offer really good customer support.

@GamerHeavenOfficial To prevent from having those massive outliers at the start, try spinning the sticks before you start the X-input app. This does require you to either spin the stick one handed (I lay the controller on my table and spin the analog stick with one hand) or you could use a macro to start the X-input app automatically after a few seconds while you're doing your two-handed technique.

Thank you for the great review! It convinced me to pull the trigger on this gamepad. I'm not an expert by any mean (in fact this is the first non-stock gamepad I bought) but I did want to share a couple of thoughts about it. First and foremost what is mentioned at 17:17 which is that the left side actuates before the right by about half of a centimeter (5mm). I decided to measure this myself by placing the controller in my 3d printer in such a way that the X-axis gantry would press both triggers equally, then measure within the machine's software the amount the gantry moved towards the controller before the click is registered. I took multiple measurements and while there indeed is a considerable amount of travel before the click, and while one side does actuate before the other, on my controller the left side would actuate only ~0.2mm before the right side. Perhaps that was a defect on the controller that was reviewed in the video, or maybe gulikit released a hardware revision to address the issue? While I was at it, I also tested the triggers when set to "hall effect analog trigger" using the same method. In this mode I was able to measure a ~2mm deadzone (measured at the very end of the trigger) between the moment the triggers begin moving and the moment a value begins to be detected by the controller. That said, L and R trigger are also very consistent between each other, with the LT and RT values returned by gamepad tester being exactly identical most of the time given the same travel distance, and having at most a 0.02 difference sometimes. Another thing, at 30:07 it's mentioned the thumbstick caps aren't swappable, however although this feature isn't advertised anywhere, they are indeed replaceable. The thumbsticks caps are mounted on a hexagonal pin, and can be removed by gently pulling them away from the controller. Although there is no official replacement specifically for the kk3 at this time, reddit users report that the kk2 replacement sticks sold on the gulikit website fit the kk3 as well, and are available in longer and shorter variants. About the thumb stick calibration, my controller's was pretty bad out of the box, with the right stick having a slight offset towards down-left, but running the calibration fixed it. It's also worth noting that if you're updating your controller's firmware to the current latest version (v4.7 as of right now), gulikit suggests in the instructions to run a stick calibration after updating. The latest versions of the firmware add a couple features as well among bugfixes, like one additional level of vibration intensity and some more lighting effects. Last (and probably less important) I wanted to mention a couple things about the included plastic case, which is mentioned very briefly. The case itself has a notch on the back which allows you to charge the controller while it's stored inside it, and on the top is printed a quick mnemonic of some button combinations detailed in the guide to change the controller's settings. What kinda sucks about the case is that its shape doesn't account for the presence of the back paddles (the mould was likely just reused from the gulikit kk2). So unless you plan to use your controller without the rear paddles installed, or are willing to remove them and store them separately every time you put away the controller, the case will likely see very limited use.
@xyberKnight10 ай бұрын
The button switches inside are membrane, not microswitch, so you can get the benefit of both types by disassembling the controller to change with the installation of the King Kong 2 Pro's replacement mechanical buttons. Additionally, the thumbsticks(even though they are a tight fit compared to the King Kong 2 Pro thumbsticks). Just some info where you didn't purchase or have those that I covered.
@jefftaylor925010 ай бұрын
Just received mine, I did notice that on your complaint about the rear paddles, you can swap the paddles to the opposite side so the cutout faces up, they don't stick out as far from the controller. It feels much better to me that way. I was also wondering how you would compare this to the vader 3 pro, which seems to have many similar features for the same $.
@jefftaylor92509 ай бұрын
Well, answering my own question, I feel like my Vader 3 pro is a MUCH better controller than the kk3. Actual mechanical buttons, sticks are the only redeeming quality for the kk3, but the Vader sticks are still really good. I prefer having software so kk3 on board programming just isn't good enough. So for me, I'm keeping the Vader 3 pro and if your looking for an $80 pro controller the Vader 3 pro seems to be the best option out currently for me as a PC gamer.

I dont know if you already know or if someone already mentioned. But the reason you got the stickdrift out of the box is because the zero deadzone mode is turned on. I dont know why they did not include this setting in the manual. But the way you turn it on or off is the hold the wheel icon (as with every option) and the the suare icon thing , the left most button down in the middle. Your deadzone settings wil switch to -0.00002 or perfect deadzone inputs. I got mine via ali express and some resellers ship them with 6 additionele thumbstick heights.

Just got mine a week or so ago and I would say it is one of the best controllers I have ever tried (in my limited selection as I don't review them for a youtube channel :P). The only "issue" I would point out is the triggers (R2/L2) are spongy when in trigger mode and when in mechanical mode the distance needed to hit them issssss "alright" but it is a bit too much for proper feel imo. Other than that so far I have had zero issues or concerns with the pad itself. Remapping the back buttons could be a touch simpler to do as it often turns on the "turbo" function of the button you are mapping to the back but turning that off is simple enough. gamepad tester reads the sticks as 0.0 error rate on both, all buttons can be hit and dont feel sticky like the kingkong pro 2's face buttons are. Overall really nice controller.

Comparing my KK3 to my Vader 3 Pro... Pros: 1. Really like the turbo and macro functions on the KK3 and how they can quickly be enabled on the controller. 2. The sticks are obviously great and extremely accurate, sensitive, with no jitter. 3. It looks good in grey and the lighting looks good too. 4. The polling rate is twice as fast as the V3 Pro. Cons: 1. The polling rate barely matters because the actual input latency is much higher than the V3 Pro when using the dongle or bluetooth (33ms!). It seems like the controller has a delay before sending the signal. A polling rate test wont show this issue. 2. The KK3 doesn't connect to the dongle roughly 1 in 8 times when turning it on. Other people also have this problem. 3. It randomly takes 3 - 8 seconds to connect with the dongle, where as the V3 Pro always connects in under 1 second. It's faster than any other controller i've used. 4. The trigger buttons feel pretty cheap, especially when they're locked. It almost feels more like the triggers are stuck when locked, rather than something that's intentional. It also feels like the plastic inside that locks them in place is about to break. It's not sturdy. They also travel too far when locked. 5. Shoulder buttons feel a little mushy. 6. The paddles stick out way too much (as shown in this vid) and i prefer the V3 Pro integrated back buttons over paddles because paddles are never as comfortable. 7. D-pad is mediocre for fighting games or anything similar. It's mushy, too small and uses the objectively inferior plus (+) shape (compared to the circular D-pad on the V3 Pro). It's usable but the V3 Pro is just so vastly superior in this area. 8. Doesn't have 6 face buttons like on the V3 Pro (C and Z), which again impacts its performance with fighters. 9. The + and - buttons are an awkward shape and too small, especially the minus button. 10. No software. I like how many features you have on the controller itself, but it also needs software for more advanced control. 11. The V3 Pro feels slightly more comfortable (but this is subjective). 12. The V3 Pro definitely chargers faster. 13. The KK3 is almost twice as expensive, yet it's clearly worse. So i've now returned my KK3... I'll probably just get a Vader 4 Pro whenever that comes out.

I prefer membrane buttons due to hand wear and noise concerns. They're not a downgrade in my view, just another option. Membranes are on many controllers for a reason. Of course their longevity is likely lower than mechanical switches, but I've personally never had a button wear out on me very prematurely, but sticks and triggers have, so hall effect is a must.

I contacted their support email, mentioned I was capable of soldering a new stick on since they're identical to replacing any other stick. They replied quickly, and sent me a replacement part for free, they didn't even ask for a purchase date, a picture of the controller, or anything. I had also experienced a weird issue with a joycon stick from them, where it would move from left to right incredibly quickly when viewed in the Switches joystick calibration page. I mentioned it in my correspondence with the customer service person, and they sent me one of these for free, as well. 10/10 customer service in my opinion, I've never had such a simple experience getting parts from a company before. I'll most likely buy this controller as well due to how they handled those issues

I want to love this controller but I've had some glaring issues with mine within 50ish hours of use. I only play Rocket League with the controller and I am maybe a bit rougher with my controllers than a casual player but I still take care of my electronics. The first problem I noticed was that the analog sticks would start to come off during play. You can pull them off yourself but they shouldn't be coming off just from heavy use. So I find myself pushing them down frequently to keep them in place. I've considered glueing or putting loctite on the stem to secure them but haven't resorted to that yet. The other major issue I have just noticed today is that the rear buttons have already start to become mushy and are now getting stuck in the actuated position. This is the worst part because I really liked the placement of the half-domes and the feedback from using them but unfortunately the rear buttons were not designed to last. If you plan on using the rear buttons a lot I would not recommended this controller. I love everything else about the controller and have had no other issues but I will have to return mine because it was not built for someone that games a lot.

Thanks a ton for sharing your experience! 50 hours with this controller is a lot
@xploh313510 ай бұрын
Yeah honestly it's probably closer to low 40ish hours, but I do play a lot. I might try and get a replacement and try once more because I really enjoy the Hall Effect sensors. I think maybe my stick issue is a QA problem but I think the switches on the rear are doomed to fail quickly, especially if you are holding down the paddles/half-domes while you play (I have boost and air roll bound on my paddles which are actions I often hold for an extended time)@@GamerHeavenOfficial

There are quite a few latency issues reported on Reddit about it. Polling rate =! Latency response. What this means is that it's consistent but the delay is about 15ms from each of those 1000 inputs, which is terrible.
@melon197910 ай бұрын
Plus extremely high triggers dead zone! Feels like 30% I returned this controller very disappointed. Other fact is thumbs dead zone. You have 2 options. One is raw 0 and second 10% feels like. It is a big gap. When people start to use it they will find out it is not worth it

The thumb stick caps ARE swap-able. In fact, the thumb sticks for the KK2 actually DO fit. It's a little snug. You've gotta push pretty hard to seat them, but they do interchange. Unfortunately, they've been out of stock on Amazon for several months. Also, the KK3 does have a "Dead Zone Mode", and it's enabled the same way it is on the KK2. Press the gear/cog button and the capture button, to enable/disable. While the dead zone on the KK2 is huge, (and thus undesirable) on the KK3 it's tiny (I'd say it's perfect). When you release the sticks, you will see all zeros on Gamepad Tester. But as soon as you touch either stick, the input registers. So, for KK2 I say no dead zone mode. But for KK3 you want it enabled. And for some reason, there is no mention of this mode in the KK3 manual.

I just got my KK3 Max in the mail and tested it out for a little bit. It IS an awesome controller, but my one maaaajor, deal-breaker gripe is that the back paddles stick out way too much. You hold the controller in place by wrapping your fingers around the two handles. The back paddles force your ring/pinky fingers away from the handles quite a bit. Also, the plastic on the controller does feel pretty good, but there's no kind of rubberized grippiness on the handles at all. These two things add up to a pretty loose grip on the controller, unfortunately. Without the paddles, I can grip the controller just fine, and everything else feels great, but that's a major loss of functionality. Also, ZL/ZR when set to digital are just okay... not great. I also had my small-handed girlfriend try the controller, and she said she would only use the controller without any back paddles. There are so many things this controller does right, but at the end of the day, if it's not comfortable to hold/use... I'm not going to enjoy using it. I've briefly owned an Elite Series 2 Core controller with back paddles (that I bought separately), and that controller is, for my medium-sized hands, ergonomic perfection. ...I returned it to Amazon immediately because it kept on giving me missed/double inputs, but WHEN IT ACTUALLY WORKS... it's glorious.
@warx2310 ай бұрын
Just got mine today, you can swap the thumbsticks out, just takes a little bit of force to pop them off. Amazon has replacement thumbsticks that include the taller right thumbstick.
@Rustydude203010 ай бұрын
Damn. Kind of a bummer about the triggers and the back paddles being subpar. Was gonna pick this up but think I'm gonna stick with my elite series 2. Wouldn't it be suuuuuuper dope if one or two of these companies just sent you a prototype to test and give feedback on before going into full production? This one seems so close to the goal of all the desired pro controller features for < $100. Just fix the weirdo triggers and a few degrees on the paddles. Nothing major just a couple tweaks and boom. Perfect.
@capnm0istbeard4418 ай бұрын
I'm finding after switching from my elite series 2 the criticism of the back paddles on the guli kit is a more than picky. If you use ring finger for the bottoms and middle for the top its very similar to elite. For $80 with hall effect sticks (0 deadzone) and only 1ms input delay, shits fire. Of course the elite paddles feel better but its not uncomfortable like all the youtube reviews make it seem.
@obake62909 ай бұрын
Looks like one of the top 2 modern controllers. Having all the configuration on the controller is a must for me, being a non-Windows user. Hall Effect sticks are also a must - I've had enough of stick drift with the other low-quality modern controllers. I would prefer rear buttons over paddles. I also don't like the Switch-first layout and as you say, the dpad isn't the best. Also would really like the rear buttons to be remappable to anything, not just other buttons on the controller. But no controller gets that right, so can't complain too much. Going off your reviews, I think for me the only controllers worth considering are this one here and the Turtle Beach Stealth Ultra that's $120 more expensive. Neither seem worth buying until my KK2 dies though. With any luck Valve will make a Steam Controller 2 by then for an even better experience. The original is still my most used controller.

Nice review. My favorite part is all the talking about meats and inner meats. Switch players - are you liking this or 8bitdo Ultimate? I was really looking forward to this for the digital trigger stops - but everyone has lukewarm opinions at best on it and that's being kind. Most people think it's bad implementation.

Great review again. Just wanted to say reason why I use the headphone jack on a controller is because I play on pc in a living room. I wish they made one with symmetrical design like the Dualshock controllers. How much resistance do the triggers have? I play racing games a lot with controllers and I prefer heavy triggers which.

The main appeal for me would be the half-dome paddles, which I find very comfortable on the Dualsense Edge. Would you say they fit well on this controller despite the difference in ergonomics as compared to the Edge?
@Ghost-_-Gav10 ай бұрын
To me I feel they do. I found it best to have paddles on the bottom, half domes up top. The half domes are noticeably harder to press in than the paddles, my guess is because they have less leverage but still not bad. I find them comfortable.

About the thumbstick, they do have swapable thumbstick, but they are not included for some reason, you have to buy them separately.

I have 2 vanilla dual sense controllers that i swap between as one dies i put the other to charge. One recently started to give massive drift on the left stick where it will go full left tilt in racing games when I'm only applying light adjustments sending me into a wall. I was hopeful Gulikit would have already made modules for the edge controller to use hall effects, but honestly considering the price difference 200 vs 80 and have 4 back buttons vs 2 on top of already using hall effects, the official sony product is really dropping the ball for value. I like the haptic feedback on the dual sense for games that use it well but those are rare.

Great video as usual but I expected at least some testing of the gyro aiming. I don't trust third parties shilling Gyro, who known the quality, they know almost nobody use it because most people don't know how good it is so they would cut cost there for sure. It has to be perfectly precise with no lag like on the DualSense wired.
