God I am so happy I don't have to tip in my country. Honestly how some kind of strike hasn't happened in the US over employers encouraging that kind of culture is mental to me. The only time you tip is if you are given absolutely amazing service and even then it's not expected.

Employers didn't _really_ push it. It was always optional. Then, during the pandemic, said employers found their businesses dipping below the red line. They could keep themselves afloat, but couldn't afford to pay their employees extra to compensate rising costs. The result was a temporary surcharge in every customer's order; an automatic tip. It had been practiced by individual businesses before, but was generally discouraged because it promoted a poor work ethic in employees. With lockdowns, it became imperative. Now that the emergency's over, businesses have reverted to a tipping system based on merit and customer discretion.

The meaning of life is to perpetuate itself. Every action taken by a life is in the service of continuing life, whether it's own or the lives of other. That's the simple explanation. Fo something a bit more specific: If you really wanted to you could take any dictionary definition and define every word in said definition, ad infinitum... That is life. While the simplest meaning is "life continues life", some people will amass wealth so that they can improve their own life, or pass it on to their children and allow those lives to be better than their own. Some people will simply seek to continue living in the way they are accustomed. And some people will open up a cat shelter and allow the lives of those cats to be better. Basically, continuation is the end goal, but how you reach that goal differs among individuals.

On the tipping discourse as someone who isn't from america, my different repair people are all their own bosses so I'm not tipping for shit, if you charge x is because x covers whatever parts you have to get and your work, but on the other side of stuff the guys from my ips get full hospitality if they have to come in for something, I always get them something to drink, something to eat and a tip because I know they are not being paid accordingly and they have to go with their flimsy ass ladder to check the cables and shit throughout the day, similar to construction workers, i give them food and drinks through the day but they don't get the tip since I just get the local masons to work it's a similar situation they charge me for their work and the materials, on the third hand I've had my neighbors (they work with glass and sruff) trying to charge me just enough to cover the glass itself and I just paid them more which I guess you would call that a tip, that's my exception when it come to tipping self employed people, if I catch something like that going on then I'll tip though I see it as attempting to just pay them more rather than a tip

I don't personally see the appeal of going to a restaurant where everyone is rude to the point of meanness to the customer, but that was wrong for H-man. to just not get served anything. Hopefully someone in the group called the waiter/staff out on it. To have the rest of the table get served and one left not to eat anything is just beyond being rude to public shaming. Screw that. I would say though, if you find/have an honest mechanic, give 'em a tip.
