One of my favorite Gumby episodes! Especially the hip talk at 4:40

Back then, Granny was a generic old lady, until the 1980s revival series made her be Gumby's maternal grandmother! That was such a generous delivery man, offering to pay for replacing Granny's spectacles!

In the old-fashioned Gumby franchise (1950s to 1995) Gumby and that dinosaur claymation due are depicted driving and piloting lots of different vehicles and cars showing that they have their driver’s licenses and know how to drive (It’s unknown who taught them, maybe their parents or a driving school. And since Gumby and Pokey despite having no jobs due to being clay toys are adults while Pingu can only use a bicycle and scooter and is still currently learning how to drive and be responsible enough to do so without crashing just like Gumby, Pokey, etc. in the Pingu episode, “ Pingu Gets Carried Away”) while Pokey is never shown driving (When he and Gumby drive, Pokey lets his friend do all the driving while he is the back seat pilot.) once except in the Toying Around and Toy Trouble and presumably has his driver’s license and knows how to drive too. (And was taught by his parents how to drive too. Gumby and Pokey once even had to teach/mentor Richard the lion himself to drive a car using the same driving lessons their parents taught them in Lion Around despite the latter not having a license to drive himself and would have been arrested by the police and imprisoned in the zoo again for too much reckless driving and going without a license and the police would have also arrested Gumby and Pokey and incarnated them in prison themselves for encouraging him to drive in the first place.) In the modern-day SpongeBob SquarePants franchise it goes the other way around for its protagonist and deuteragonist SpongeBob and Patrick, plus Sandy Cheeks and Squidward Tentacles, SpongeBob while bad at driving at first until he got better at it due to Mrs. Puff at boating school gave him decent lessons on it, never got his driver’s license permanently and numerous times in the series (In episodes like Nautical Notive, SpongeBob LongPants and No Free Rides.) SpongeBob gets his driver’s license but has it revoked at the last minute, and his never given it permanently while Patrick manages to earn his driver’s license permanently in Driven to Tears despite all his reckless driving.

It was actually the earliest episodes of Gumby from the 1950s like the pilot episode, “Moon Trip”, “Mirror Land”, “Lost Little Pony” and “Fantastic Farmer” that I found creepy and was afraid of when I was little and found it scary and creepy, I find the episodes from the 1960s and 1980s like “Zoots” “Tiny Planets” “Mirror-Laois Recovery” “Hot Rod Granny” “Gum Grabber Gumby” “Funny Bathtub” “Skateboard Waltz” “Funny Bathtub” and “Shrink a Dink” and Gumby: The Movie and the 2017 comic and 2010s commercials not to be creepy. Creepy claymation comes from the 1950s and 1940s and not so scary claymation comes from the 1960s, 1970s, 1980s, 1990s and present day, don’t you agree with me?

The Evil Proffessor that appeared in the Gumby series is its only villain/antagontist to speak and have dialogue (Not counting the witch who comes off more as an anti-hero and false antagonist than villain.) while all its other ones including the main ones, the Blockheads have none at all.

Gumby’s father (Despite also Gumby’s mom allowing him to be independent.) is always overprotective towards his son, (More than Gumby’s mother.), first in Moon Trip when Gumby was stranded on the Moon and almost eaten by its triangle aliens his dad rescued him and revived him in the hospital on Earth when he ran out of oxygen and “died” and later tried to protect him and Pokey from Richard the Lion in Lion Around though they protected themselves from the lion after all and in Arctic Antics after Gumby, Pokey, and the dinosaur and blue claymation characters I am forgetting their names were sentenced to community service (Similar to Lightning McQueen’s punishment for destroying Radiator Springs’ road and town in Cars (2006).) and forced by a walrus and puffin in the Arctic to build them a new igloo after they accidentally destroyed their first one by landing their helicopter running out of fuel on it Gumby’s parents and sister and the potato head character became concerned to the point where Gumby’s dad and the potato head character travel to the Arctic to save them on a snowmobile but the characters finish building the igloo by the time they get there and the walrus and puffin set them free not without Gumby’s dad and the potato head refueling the helicopter for the return trip home and eat and have some clam ice cream to eat as thanks from the Walrus and Puffin for all their hard work but the protagonists are forced to flee (Gumby’s dad and the potato head guy traveling home on their snowmobile, the walrus and puffin hiding in the ocean where most walruses and puffins hide from polar bears in real life and Gumby, Pokey (Being the less to flee due to trying to finish his clam ice cream.) and the dragon and blue claymation creature fleeing on their helicopter.) when a polar bear cub eats some of the ice cream too and attracts his mother polar bear who tries to eat the protagonists despite them all except the walrus and puffin being made of Clay which is inedible.

You should see 1967's "Gabbie Auntie" (Gumby's aunt aka Gumby in drag, bores Pokey to sleep yada yada yada, Pokey sleepwalks so HE's unaware, Gumby and Aunt Gumbiddy uses her car, then Gumb y a strange boat)

Not that surprising, since she did practically all the female voices in these 1962 episodes, while Dallas McKennon did the male voices.

If you look at the old Hot Rod Magazine classifieds from this time on their digital archive, that was actually kind of high fir a T Bucket in 1956. A T body averaged $25. A fully done T Bucket ranged anywhere from $200-600.

In this episode and during this Gumby era, she's not related to Gumby. She officially becomes Gumby's maternal grandmother in the 1988 revival. That probably makes Gumby and his little sister, Minga 1/4 human.

I thought Pokey was voiced by Art Clokey.
@ZakWolf7 жыл бұрын
Yes, Art Clokey voiced Pokey up until after "The Glob," after which Dallas McKennon took over for the rest of the 1962-1966 shorts. In the late 60s shorts, the role could alternate between McKennon, Clokey and even Norma MacMillan! (the voice of Gumby and Goo at that time) Then with the 1988 shorts, Art Clokey was Pokey's primary voice actor again.
