Gumby - Prickle Turns Artist

The art critic turned up in the odd 1967 episode, one a few with Gumby's dog, Nopey,["NNNO!"], with no one talking, in "Of Clay & Critters". The art critic isn't in that one for more than a few minutes,though like he is here. A lot of characters making brief appearances from one epsidoe to another. This was third or fourth and last of the four Gumby's to feature that "Groobee" '"Son of Liberty", and the bee's own short, of its own name, also with Gumby.

Prickle, in some shorts like these, sounded like iconic "gay:" comedian Paul Lynde (1926-1982) but also in the traditional G rated meaning of gay that people MEANT in those days; other episodes from the 60s he's more like the 1920s-40s droll deadpan movie sourpuss Ned Sparks (1883-1957). Yet another Prickle voice was used in the 60s and for all of the 1980s Gumbys as far as I know, The artist at 2:55-3:33 is a character from another late 1960s Gumby, "Of Clay and Critters".

Goo and the later Gumby, and Pokey, however.....ALWAYS sounded reliably the same.:):cool:(Dallas McKennon then Art Clokey played Prickle, Nellie Olsen/Allison ANgrim ("Little House")'s aunt Norma McMillan, also Davey Hanson and Sweet Polkly, was Goo AND Gumby and the art lovers in this short.

This looks like when Dick Beals was doing the voice of Gumby, my pops was Gumby for the longest time.

Nope; that's Norma MacMillan's voice. You can tell because she doesn't have the accent and "breeziness" that Dick Beals' voice has. BTW, the whole thing about Dick Beals doing the voice of Gumby is a myth. Dick Beals even admitted it himself when asked if he did Gumby: "I never, ever EVER did Gumby! That was Dal McKennon."

Nickelodeon used to play these Gumby episodes on it's channel,yet they took them took them off.Wht a shame,which is why I quit watching Nickelodeon,
