Then his older brother, Charlie, checked him and put him in his place.

Totally! Dales "policing" is due to a lack of being corrected for his barking. All conflicts could have been avoided if a human just simply stepped in to correct the dog for barking. No, nothing happened here, but if there's a dog that isn't willing to take Dales pushy attitude then it could lead to one. It would have been safer for all of the dogs to have a human intervene, but I'm glad nothing happened. Be careful people and don't wait for something to happen. Instead, it's more beneficial to stay productive by managing smaller bad behaviors that could potentially lead into worse ones. Great video, there's a lot that can be learned here through studying all the dogs body language!

Dale is a dominant dog that doesn’t automatically make him an alpha. Dominant dogs hold the top ranks of a “pack” however there will only be one alpha and unless they’re alpha there is always going to be a dog above them they need to respect unless they are challenging it. Also beta isn’t really a dominant dog. Betas are “middle fielders” their personality swings a bit they’ll roll completely over and fully submit to some dogs yet dominant others. What really holds the pack together is submissive dogs. I don’t like term Omega and rarely hear any terms like Beta or Omega used by fellow behavior analysts. Alpha, dominant, Submissive and mid-packers are the terms used by behavioral specialist in my area. The term beta implies unwavering complete submission towards usually the “Alpha” dog. Dale definitely is not a Beta.

Dale was over excited which made several other dogs uncomfortable and none of the them tried correcting him owner included. Dominance theory is disproven illegitimate. Check out some current literature for better understanding of dog behavior.

That’s the problem with owning girls and letting them off with dominant males. You see dominant dogs will try humping males and females and in a dog park you don’t know which dog dog is the dominant one (unless you know which by then you should dominate them so they know that your dogs are in your pack and therefore they won’t go create a new pack)

I would definitely add more commentary. This is a great way to see how dog's behave and interact with each other. You've obviously taught your dogs well, Winston is an amazing dog. You should add your thoughts about what different faces and behaviour means. A lot of people that watch these videos have no clue about how to prepare themselves and their dogs for the dog park.

I'm glad to have seen this video, we got a pit bull mix over a years ago. His mom was a rescue, red nose pit bull who turned out to be pregnant. Father was a mystery but several people said he looks to be Akita as well. He looks very much like the one in the video. A true gentle lap dog weighing 90 lbs lol. We got a little female American pit bull two weeks before him and a kitten. They are all family and sleep eat and walk together.

Reminds me of my old shih tzu Mr. Long. Missing an eye and some teeth. Just likes to go roll in the dirt and sniff dogs. Without fail, he never lets a soul in the park think they can fuck with him. He doesn't go up picking fights, but when young male dogs see an old dog rolling they often get cocky and tend to swarm him. He "fought off" a three dog husky pack two girls brought in, snipping their noses and spinning in a circle to keep his one eye on them until they decided he was not worth the effort and left him alone. Even when I bring my pyre girl to the park, if she's playing and another dog gets bossy and overwhelms her- there goes Mr. Long flying across the park to set them straight about messing with his pack. So this giant mountain dog is constantly saved by this little bold senior.

If I may, the Akira mix looks very uncomfortable with strange dogs, his body language is very dominant, that is unhealthy, I would seek help from a trainer because from Personal experience this is very dangerous behavior. I'm very surprised a fight didnt happen . Correction and consistancy is key. However alot like in children you can't only correct it sometimes or just once it's gone too far the dog will never learn. If you want progress the behavior needs to be corrected the minute it arises or I would seriously avoid dog parks, one day your dog could get seriously hurt from a dog who would not tolerate such disrespectful behavior. This is only a suggestion and a warning its behavior like this, that I refuse to take my dogs to dog parks

You simply just have to look at the body language of the other dog. Normal behavior is relaxed, and playful for a dog park. My neighbor has 2 Huge dogs, they're Mastiffs mixed with something and they are tanks. My dog is an American Eskimo and they attacked my dog (2vs1) he was taken to the vet for emergency surgery which cost thousands of dollars. The vets said "I see ripped flesh but it appears to have been minimal - what happened?" I replied "I put it in a headlock to stop the shaking best I could, then I bit his ear. Bastards gonna bite my friend, I'm gonna bite you back" they started laughing.

Including a small dog named Tripod! Dale seemed to be the flashpoint in this collection, most other dogs, the alpha husky aside, seemed content just to get on with their whatevers. I remember sitting in a park with a female Staffy on a lead and watching a mixed breed (= mongrel) male dog badgering other males at play until finally one of them had had enough and a fight started. The person alongside me commented "when play turns to affray, hmm?" I've never forgotten the expression.

My large dog that was one of those teddy bear types was attacked twice by pit bulls (with different bad owners who either did nothing or made it worse) in county dog parks. Not the Pitt's faults they were brought up that way or that they have a strong jaw that're difficult to pry open. But it ain't worth the stress. If you have a good dog park, I'm glad. I used to enjoy them and hope no others experience what I did. My happy dogs will enjoy the company of our friend's and families' dogs and all our different yards.

Thank goodness in the UK we aren`t forced to use these dog parks. We have public parks and nature reserves where you can walk on your own and enjoy your dogs.

There is a huge public park 3 minutes walking distance from my house, but my husky would find a way to run away and into traffic where she would be run over and killed. Thats why myself, and tons of other dog owners take their Huskies to the dog park - it's less risky and they get their energy out. The dog park is completely gated and enclosed and therefore the dogs won't be run over by cars.

Just briefly spotted a husky/shephard cross that looked exactly my late great "Jack" known amongst the kids in the neighborhood as "the greatest dog ever."

I live in a relatively small town and we don't have a dog park. How do they work? Do any dogs ever get into fights? If they did, wouldn't others join in and have a dog riot? Are they fenced in so they can't run away?
