She’s not just half Korean but it’s Zainichi Korean. Meaning her mom is a Japanese national and likely descended from Koreans who were brought over or came over while the Japanese military and government annexed Korea and the officials and rich tourists committed horrible war crimes and assaults against Koreans. Like, Zainichi Koreans weren’t allowed to speak Korean or practice Korean culture and had to take Japanese names and their children born there became culturally Japanese knowing of nothing but Japan and thus not wishing to go to to a newly split country they knew nothing of. So the audacity of Japanese people to tell Kiko that she had no business saying anything about Japanese entertainment industry is not only ridiculous but disgusting.
@name-jx9bo3 ай бұрын
zainichi doesnt mean that they are naturalized japanese. kiko does not have japanese citizenship bc her mum's citizenship status is korean. zainichi koreans has existed long before the annexation of korea. zainichi koreans were allowed to speak korean and were not forced to change their names. the 'tsumei' system was created in 1940 because so many zainichis were claiming to be japanese by creating japanese style names, and the government decided to officially recognize these made up names, allowing zainichis to have two names, korean, and japanese style. this is why kiko is known as kiko mizuhara in the japanese entertainment world but her government name is audrie kiko daniel... she is allowed to have two names, a privilege only zainichis have.
@DoraEmon-xf8br3 ай бұрын
Uh, no. Zainichi Korean just means she is a Korean ethnic having permanent residence in Japan. It doesn't necessarily imply that she's a Japanese National. My brother in law is a Zainichi, his parents too are Zainichi, but none of them has the Japanese citizenship or nationality.

What does it have to do with citizenship???? She's been victimised by creeps who got away with their behaviour because people have excused their behaviours no matter which countries where and when it was.... The point here is it happened to her so don't make excuses for them to get away with their behaviour is has nothing to do with what had happened to her. She's very strong for putting out her story out don't make her feel bad or feel anymore low just because of what country her family's from has nothing to do with how disgusting those creep made her feel and were happy to get away with it for so long, as long as there is people out there making excuses for them, it's about time someone put them in their places so things like SA, R doesn't happen anymore specially to places where they were supposed to feel safe and places where there's already a lot of people and for them to actually do something about it when things like that doesn't happen anymore. Why execute someone's ethnicity when it has nothing to do with her story.. All it does is make excuses for the perpetrators and try to put the actual story under a rug, to put the actual story out of sight instead off actually listening and seeing what really happened to her...

Unfortunately it's human nature to group up and harass people who are different. I have quite a number of friends who are gay and they've said that gay men are the worse at forming cliques and treating anyone who isn't like them as "less than". One of my best friends is a gay man who is quite, social anxious and not typically attractive. He said he finally gave up trying to date, despite living in a large city in the US with a thriving gay scene, because he was constantly told that he was "too ugly" to go out with. I see this in other groups as well. I've gamed on the computer since I was in high school (late 1990s) and gamers then weren't considered cool at all. Most were bullied for that but when they'd get on the computer in their friend groups, they'd in turn bully new players or players who weren't as good. Humans can be quite horrible.

In the case of Japanese it isn’t just the entertainment industry every other industries also have SA problems. It might not be as huge on the scale of the entertainment industry but there are a lot of problems that often go unaddressed. This is a country where until recently unless you did not voice out a clear rejection such as stop or no then it was considered consensual. Even if you were drugged by the other party and knocked out unconscious… So I can’t imagine the horror that goes on in the entertainment industry. There was this one company that got torn down after a huge upscale SA scandal conducted by the company founder himself was revealed out into the world. What’s ironic was that it was actually revealed by a foreign media because Japanese one’s clearly had knowledge of it and turned a blind eye to it. The guy really was creepy and he would go around finding young men who were his type and SA them after essentially well half kidnapping them… Mind you Japanese people are very polite people and they have difficulty refusing people especially if they come from a powerful background. It wasn’t a situation where they could simply refuse to follow the man…😢

Unfortunately, it happens in 98% of the world. Even Western Europe and North America had and still have this problem. I'm from Russia and there, despite people aren't as openly racist as Americans, we also have a racial pregudice, especially towards Central Asians and Black Africans (since they come to Russia for labor). I know many Afro-American tourists visited Russia and had positive experiences there, but they don't understand that visiting a country for tourism is NOT the same as living there, as a Black/biracial person. Not all, but many Black/biracial Russians experienced discrimination and harassment for their non-white background. Even if you were born in Russia, know Russian culture and speak Russian well, the majority won't see you as "Russian enough" because you are not fully White/Slavic. Since the majority have very narrow-minded view on foreign countries, biracial Russians are harshly stereotyped as more "stupid", "savage", "hypersexual" and even "inferior" citizens, compared to more "pure", "educated" and "civilized" Russian ethnicity. If a biracial Russian speaks out publicly about negative aspects of Russian culture, they will meet tons of racist, insulting comments and phrases from other Russians, like: "If you don't like something in Russia, then go back to your Africa!" Basically, the majority believes that our problems is only "our" problems and it's not a business of foreigners (or "foreign-looking" people) to say anything that doesn't portray Russia as a good guy or a poor victim of everything. You can talk tons of shit about Russia while being "Slavic-passing" Russian, but you don't have the same right if your ancestory and your appearance aren't "Slavic enough". The view on interracial relationships in Russia is already slightly negative, so you can imagine how it's like to face life challenges in Russia, while being born in biracial ancestry.

I've been such a fan of hers since 2009/2010, and was elated to see her become bigger across various medium and use her voice to amplify important issues. It's so ugly and disappointing that she's shut down like this. I'm not surprised though all things considered.

Thank you for sharing this so much. I think she is so amazing and I've always watched her as a Kpop fan and only found about her because of her rumored relationship with GD and never even knew or participated with the other rumors of her comments and always quietly supported her...being half Japanese and Black and as well as a female in the entertainment industry(in hiatus), I always wanted to root for her. It's so painful to learn how much I didn't know and I really hope she knows there are so many women who value her fighting and speaking up! Thank you again for sharing this side of the news.

I also learned about Zainichi Koreans recently and took a DNA test and found out I am part Korean and not exactly 50% Japanese like I thought I would be...which leads me to believe my Great Great Grandmother was also Zainichi Korean.

Crystal K who is a singer in Japanese industry. She is mixed black and Korean. She has stayed in Japanese entertainment industry for over 20 years. But Kiko, I really don’t know what she’s been doing. She is known for someone’s gf in K pop fans. That’s it. She isn’t the popular and most people don’t know what she is doing. 🫠 I think people should know that first. It’s good content that using her for discrimination topic but first of all, what she does?🤔 And she isn’t that famous…or talented…in Japan.

This is why I don’t blindly worship idols or like those brain-dead easily manipulated die hard fans. They believe false rumors and brush aside those bad behaviours and just being one track mind. Take Beyoncé for example, there’s a lot of circulating rumors about her undermining other artists but the fans just brushed it off. Y’all really love all these showbiz and whatsoever but as human, think at what length would you do jus to get on top?
@violetvictoria72482 ай бұрын
beyonce doesn't have to put any artist in a pedestal. If she wants to she would, but it a crazy game of popularity, everyone focus on their's self to get bigger then ever, it normal to have that behavior as a artist. So why bring her into this when we are talking about something way more serious.. It won't change the fact about koreans and japanese. Even indian don't try to defend anything their country do but show the world how bad the country is. While you worried about other country when it not even talking about them...

This is true, and also many of those idol/k-pop fans are young so that plays a huge rule on spreading hate.
@prettylady4383 ай бұрын
What does it have to do with citizenship or nationality or ethnicity????

She is my personal icon, an activist, a hero, an inspiration for generations to come!! She’s so strong and brave and even with all that pain, suffering and humiliation she still shows up and fights against what’s wrong. If I had one thing to say to her, it would be that the slander and hate says more about the person doing it, then it does about her. They are projecting, hard, on someone who is brave enough to put themselves out there. She is a hero and they are human garbage

The industry convinces women that their nudity ( being sexually exploited) is a necessity for the audience, but its just another form of trying to normalize sexual exploitation. Im sure the women in the entertainment industry feel uncomfortable and pressured often to be exploited, sacrificing their safety/ dignity for the sake of the misogyny in the entertainment industry.

Sexual harassment and being a Korean resident in Japan should be considered separately. This is because most Japanese people do not know that she is a Korean resident in Japan. Talking about both issues at the same time complicates the discussion and lengthens the path to resolution.

Ethnocentrism and nationalism really mess with people’s minds in East Asia, IMO. It’s really difficult to have an intellectually honest exchange with a person who gets defensive about their entire country or culture if someone says anything negative about it. How can any nation expect to improvise or make progress if they can’t take criticism or be a little introspective?
