Why the hate on Shinko name? Shinko is a Japanese company with production in Korea. IRC is also a Japanese company. Dunlop is owned by Sumitomo Rubber (Japanese company). Interestingly GoldenTyres used to be made by Shinko, but their partnership ended about 10 years ago. Personally I've been using Shinko tires for a long time as they are reasonably priced and readily available here in Japan. Their gummy tires perform great off-road and are very well suited to use with Tubliss at low pressure due to the heavy duty carcass construction, with a stiff sidewall and softer crown. I love the Shinko 540DC 120/100-18 for my local off-road ride conditions, but it's currently only available in Japan AFAIK.

Hello Mr. T: Dave must have forgotten to take his meds and over-revved just a bit. I think he was referring to the early years of Shinko shortly after they purchased Yokohama in 1998 and got into the motorcycle industry. Before that they manufactured bicycle tires and tubes. Their quality in the beginning was just OK, now they are a real player in the gummy hybrid tire market. P.S. Thanks for your many great videos.

You ain’t lying about the 520dc sidewall breaking down. I run bibs and felt like I was running on a flat. I could pinch the sidewall in enough with my thumbs to see daylight. Great tire until they’re not. About 30 hour life so that was good.

I like the AT81EX the best of those options, but haven't tried the Shinko. The 520DC is a little big and heavy for my taste though. I also like the Kenda Ibex. The VE33S holds up great but doesn't quite have the grip of the gummier options. Same with the Arena Hybrid Gummy. Wish the MotoZ was cheaper, as I thought that was a really good tire.

That is an FIM tire with 14mm knobbies, these tires are that shown are typically 17mm; another video with all of the FIM tires would be great, but with ultra soft mousse they all work as well as each other.
@onthethrottle71047 ай бұрын
Put 50 hours on the VE33S riding extreme conditions with expert riders and I could not believe how it lasted. I never get more than 30 hours out of a rear tire. Also, everyone is always looking for that big knob tire but did you know trials tires with a plushie mousse out back will out do all of these tires head to head for traction? Yup.
@Anatoli507 ай бұрын
I run a Dunlop trials tire paired with Tubliss. Aired down I can get phenomenal traction. Just be careful as the sidewalls can easily be damaged.
@onthethrottle71047 ай бұрын
@@Anatoli50 Any reason you don't run a mousse? I run tubliss on my bikes and love them, but the trials seems best with mousse because of what you said...
@slaverace17 ай бұрын
Hello Guys: No doubt trials tires have the best traction for rocks and a few other scenarios. However, the downside list is long. Braking is horrible, very bad in heavy mud, not good in sand and they wiggle and wobble and ruin the handling once you get past 3rd gear. ALL of the hybrid tires far surpass the overall performance of a trials tire.
@Anatoli507 ай бұрын
@@onthethrottle7104 I run Tubliss so I can adjust air pressure to match conditions. 14 psi on the pavement and down to 2 psi in the snow and wet root mazes.

I love the 520DC for mid summer. Almost as much traction as the JX8 but lasts twice as long. It's not as good in the early season slop though. It has a very rounded profile and it's nice to have a bit more of an aggressive side lug for spring and fall conditions. Also agree on the VE33s. Great balance between longevity and traction. I prefer more traction and will take the hit on the longevity to achieve it. I need all the help I can get 😅
