One of my many concerns is that a vigilante’s action could result in case against a person that committed a massacre gets thrown. Either by violating the person’s rights, or contaminating evidence, or possibly something I have been able to think of.

This was something my brother suggested I would like hear some feedback. He suggested having a shooting range were you could rent an assault, but the assault rifle never actually leaves the gun range. Would you be okay with such an idea? Maybe it could a compromise on the assault rifle issue.

In 1911, Turkey established gun control. Subsequently, from 1915 to 1917, 1.5 million Armenians, deprived of means to defend themselves, were rounded up and killed. In 1929, the Soviet Union established gun control. Then, from 1929 to 1953, approximately 20 million dissidents were rounded up and killed.

I'd like to point something out: Chicago, IL has the HIGHEST rate of homicide by firearms in the U.S. It also has the most STRICT gun control. Food for thought. As for owning Semi-Automatic rifles: They aren't deadlier, they're faster. And, only if the shooter continues to pull the trigger-they don't fire continuously. Semi-Automatic just means the gun reloads itself. But, seriously, every time I hear people say one gun is more deadly than another I think "How fatal?" "Completely, sir."

I would like to point out the fact that having semi automatic rifles, including semi auto variants of so called assault rifles in civilian hands is NOT the problem. Neither are 10-20 round magazines. The problem is that this weaponry is sold almost over the counter, with no background check and no real control over how the guns are handled once bought. Tragedies like this only require one lunatic with ready, uncontrolled access to firearms. If you want to drive, you get a drivers license.

That didn't happen in Tucson, and there were people carrying. The simple fact is you shouldn't carry a gun without training, just as you shouldn't drive a car. I am a law abiding citizen and the only license I need is the second amendment. I have used a firearm to protect myself in no less than three occasions without firing a shot. The police are there to catch the bad guy AFTER they have committed the murder. My guns are there to make sure the my family is safe. The important thing to remember is that far more people are killed in auto accidents than by guns...if this really is an argument about safety then we need to ban automobiles.

"Buying ammunition" sector "Prior to 2007 members of the Swiss Militia were supplied with 50 rounds of ammunition for their military weapon in a sealed ammo box that was regularly audited by the government. This was so that, in the case of an emergency, the militia could respond quickly. However, since 2007 this practice has been discontinued" which means that getting a working gun & ammo is as hard as in most other places. but overall i do think that the main reason for no crime is education

I live in Chicago and I can say gun control is more or less ineffective. The sad truth is illegal firearms can be easily obtained through black markets. Do I like guns? Idunno. Would I rather responsible citizens be allowed to own firearms as oppose to just having a society where only criminals can easily access them? Yes. Look if a repeat offender wants to get a gun they'll do it. If they have not exercised responsible behavior before what makes any law maker think they'll follow gun laws?

I think a big problem is how engrained guns are in the American culture. The fact that most people have a gun for self-protection is kind of an astounding lack of trust in each other. In Canada (where gun control is more severe), the only people I know with guns use them for hunting. No one I know even considers having a gun or even keeping a knife close by for protection. In fact, many people leave their doors unlocked at night. I think it's a bit of a culture/trust thing.

If you're planning on doing something illegal with a gun, I highly freaking doubt you give a shit whether or not your gun is legal. The fact is by the time the police got to the Aurora shooting 70 people were already injured and/or dead. If guns had been legal in Colorado a bystander could have turned that number from 70 to 1.

I'm not an American, but what makes the most sense to me would be allowed civilians to keep smaller handguns, and hunting guns if they have a licence, but not these semi-automatic super death machines. The right to bear arms was created when guns were a lot *less* lethal(ish). A musket doesn't really compare to an assault rifle. JUST MY HUMBLE THOUGHTZ.

People hunt with AK47's and Ar15 rifles all the time, Please don't confuse these civilian versions with the automatic military versions. Civilians do need a weapon to defend themselves and their country if needed. I for one will not surrender my right to provide for my own security for my family and friends. You cannot depend on only the police, they come and clean up after the deed is done and cannot protect you from threats. I hope I NEVER need to use a gun,but I'm prepared in case.

Fun fact, "Huge, powerful, Semi-automatic guns" have the least homicide rate of any fire arm. In fact, the least of any firearm in any crime. These aren't for hunting, they are the last line of defense or the first. Think about it like this; Should someone invade, Red Dawn style, people won't be for gun control much longer. Also bare in mind the highest rate in firearm crimes is because we have so many, concentration of something in one area tends to make it more widely used.

I’ve been talking about this with my mom, and suggesting something I wanted to share. By law banks have to report transaction over a certain dollar amount to law enforcement. Law enforcement double checks to make sure the money is not connected to anything illegal. My mom was thinking that maybe they should do the same with guns. Example: If I were to buy 20 guns in one sitting, then law enforcement be informed and they make sure not planning to do something illegal with them. What do you think?
