Got through the Battle of the Bulge before getting a little too far into Germany and being captured. Fifteen day march FURTHER into Germany, then 97days in a POW camp. Germans took his M1 and his paratroop jump boots (he was infantry). Fast forward to a few years ago and he ran across a website offering a BOTB "commemorative" rifle. I'll have to look up the provenance but IIRC they were only going to make 500 or so of them. In three calibers: BB, .22, and .30-06. When he was ordering it we looked at each other just as he hit the .30-06 button. Like there could have been any other choice? Beautiful piece, bolt action like butter. Actually a Winchester 70 Featherweight. Sadly his health started to fail before we could sight it in with the Chinesium scope (didn't come with iron sights) I had laying around so he never got to fire it. To date it has not been fired, but *I* still have it. Got a bipod for it too and a box of match-grade ammo!

I live in Canada and unfortunately we have some very restrictive gun laws. I do however agree with you on the right to own a gun of your choice as us law abiding citizens do not use our guns for illegal purposes. Criminals by the definition do not care about laws including gun laws. If guns were completely banned by law, criminals will continue to possess guns to commit crimes. Gun laws will only affect law abiding citizens, which are the majority of people both here in Canada and the United States. Keep up the great work and the excellent videos.

Guys, I love that 9mm Largo box. Back in the 90's I had 3 Destroyer carbines, an Astra 400, and a Star Modelo Super...and a box just like that full of ammo. I miss my Largoista days.

Somewhat off subject but this video got me thinking. For those who are knowledgeable - please comment. When the 5.56 cartridge was designed and adopted, it was found to be an optimal round being used in a gun with a 20inch barrel and typically hitting a target at 200 yds. At this range the round typically caused substantial wounds due an after impact yaw in the round when travelling through the body cavity. I remember reading this somewhere but can't remember where. Or were there other considerations when adopting it over the 7.62?

You guys are absolutely correct about those gun owners who think that just because they only own hunting rifles for deer, and other large game, that those are the only types of firearms that anyone needs, and think or say that no one needs an AR or an AK, are detrimental to all gun owners and ownership!

30-40 Krag, 45 LC were also military cartridges that made it into civilian life. I still have my great grandfather's 30-40 Krag from when he was in the Spanish American War.

Damn that 60 minutes episode must've been like listening to John Madden on Sunday Night Football..."Al, the team that plays the best defense and gives up the fewest points is gonna win this game"...great analysis, thanks John 😎

There is nothing to compare. As human beings we have the right to own tools that we can use for self preservation, entertainment, and collecting purposes without the assumption of malice by our neighbors or government.

My biggest gripe is a weapon that only fires expensive high end ammunition reliably.

When i was in the army I had no intentions of ever buying an M4. I hated it. Its only when I became a civilian that I wanted one just in case.

The language has to change as well People ask me if im allowed to own guns in Canada, instead ask if the government suppressed my right to self preservation

Ballistics by the inch is a web page that compares speed and foot pounds of many cartridges along with barrel length. A 9” .357sig hits similarly to a 5.56 and a 16” 9mm will crank quite a punch compared to a 5.56. That has a lot to do with this topic.

Yeah, I don't own an AR or AK, but I support those who do. Not because I intend to get 1 someday. Not only because I support the 2nd Amendment and the Constitution 100%. I also support people buying/trading for/receiving, owning and carrying ARs, AKs or any other weapons, because the bad guys will be armed with whatever they want regardless, so more good people who are armed with whatever they want, without any infringement, the more people are around to help defend themselves and others, maybe even me if I run out of ammo in my couple cheap little pocket guns and there just happens to be a decent "asshole" walking around the place with an AR slung over his shoulder, recording a video for his account, but also well equipped to fire back at an actual mass murderer who might have a similar weapon. It's okay to be armed.

AR-15s were made for sporting, and hunting rifles. Back in the late 50s early 60s nobody really bought them because they did not have much knockdown power. The military uses shotguns and bolt action rifles. Military does not use AR-15...🇺🇸 Military snipers do not even use 5.56 caliber rifles.

.223 is so strong that it can't be used in certain states for hunting certain animals because it isn't that great..... Wait.... But MSM said it had power.

I remember reading an article back in the 70's that stated the 5.56 was designed to wound more then kill. Theory being that a wounded man took 3 soldiers out of action not just one. Also weight advantage.
