Here’s an idea, keep and bear arms everywhere you go . All of these irrational rules and regulations will do nothing but cause irrational results. Put your gun in your trunk and your car gets stolen, go to school to pick up your kids and someone starts shooting… time out let me jump out of my car fumble with the right key to open the locked box, now find the ammo, now load your gun, while turning your back on the assailant. That’s effing genius.

That makes sense to unholster my firearm in the school parking lot with kids walking around everywhere and try to take the magazine out and rack the slide to remove the round that’s in the chamber. Seems safe with a bunch of kids around while I’m trying to be discreet in my car and people are looking at me.

Exactly. Does not make much sense. I understand the concept of storing an unloaded gun but the politicians don't think (or care) about the process of unloading a gun inside your vehicle.

As of now you wouldn’t be able to park in that schools lot. Or even enter it. You would have to park OFF the grounds and then secure and then walk.

In NJ, per the latest law, if you store your gun in your vehicle and it is outside of your immediate possession or control within a parked vehicle, it must be "...unloaded and contained in a closed and securely fastened case, or gunbox, and is not visible from outside of the vehicle, or is locked unloaded in the trunk or storage area of the vehicle."

New Jersey State police website says ammo has to be in a separate container the gun has to be in a fastened container it doesn’t have to be locked it could be wrapped in newspaper with string tied around it but it says the ammo has to be in a separate container and also says the container the firearm is it cannot be the glove box or the console it also has to be in the truck if you don’t have a truck it Hass to be the furthest from the driver

That is how you must transport a firearm if you do not have a carry permit. if you have a permit, you can carry in your vehicle, loaded.

Yeah what you’re saying doesn’t pertain to Carry permits. And even at that what’s on the NJSP website isn’t law and is a lot of times contradictory to the actual law. So be careful using anything quoted on their website as law.

What about if you don’t leave your vehicle?There is nothing mentioning that.IE.,,,I get in my vehicle and put my loaded OR unloaded carry gun in a case, mounted holster, center console etc…Leaving the vehicle is explained in the law.You can’t access your gun while sitting and a seatbelt is wrapped around it and it’s bad for your back and will tear a hole in your seats.

So, to store firearm in vehicle gun safe I must unload it, clear the chamber and store it separate from ammo. To carry it again, I must retrieve it, insert magazine and rack the slide if I want to carry it loaded. Wow! All these extra steps can’t be safe.

I agree totally! Much safer to keep it loaded and secure it properly. Not much thought into this new law as far as safety, in my opinion. I understand they may have had good intensions requiring you to unload while storing but that can certainly lead to accidents in your vehicle if not careful.

Yes. I agree. Makes more sense to keep it loaded and secure it without unloading/loading in a vehicle. They didn't think (or care) about the safety of loading/unloading inside a vehicle when they wrote this law.
