From a firearms training standpoint, 6 months of concurrent training before being able to carry is MORE than enough compared to any state's concealed carry requirements. They have armed security and well-trained armed teachers and if that fails, the kids are taught to band together to defend themselves. I see nothing wrong with this, I just wish every school in America was this well-protected against attackers, I think our kids are worth protecting. Nothing will train you for the actual act of returning fire in the moment, but this level and consistency of training is excellent and certainly it's better than no guns and no training. I want our children to not just feel safe in school, I want them to BE safe and I think this is great.

jussayin mipeece I can agree with you to an extent. I realize that there are many millions of guns in America -no one, including the government, knows for sure but it's enough to arm every man, woman, and child. We can't ever ban them and they won't ever be confiscated completely, so the best approach is to have one of your own and know how to use it. You can choose to be the "good guy" and be unarmed but criminals will never get rid of their guns. It's a personal choice but when you've lived it and seen it done the right way every day, owning guns is not a problem -in fact it's an asset to your own safety. Regular people owning weapons is in our very historical fabric -and enshrined in our Constitution. Guns aren't going anywhere, might as well face it head on rather than ignore it.

I think being prepared is a good thing. Though, looking at this from a probability standpoint these teachers are more likely to experience an accidental discharge that hurts themselves or their kids than having to defend against an active shooter.

There was a shooting near me when I was a kid. It had the potential to be the worst shooting at the time. 200-400 people in a church, 1000+ rounds of ammo in ma, a rifle and some pistols. A lady carrying a pistol shot him in the head and he was done for. It was the new life church shooting in Colorado Springs. I will always remember this and with proper training, I think we have the best bet of fighting firepower with firepower.

"Years of training that armed police officers get." Let's inject some logic into this stupid argument. Police get years of training because they're not trained to deal with disarming gunmen exclusively. Contrary to what liberals may think, police training involves the physical aspect but is centered on diffusing domestic disturbances and reviewing what constitutes criminal activity as well as citizen's rights. Unless you're swat, the tactical training is a very small part of the job.

Yes have children charge at the person with a fully automatic weapon, and could easily shoot them down as they approach, and there is also the possibility the children become too scared to do anything because fight or flight cannot be changed not even for the bravest of people, and also there is also shock, a person can become shocked at seeing there is weapon point at them and stand completely still and unable to think. And the shock of killing someone or seeing someone die can cause PTSD in a child, and I don’t believe getting shot at while trying to he a hero will help, and by columbine there were 2 shooters, which means if you were trying to be a hero that would 800 rounds flying at you. It would be much easier if America acted smart like Australia ban assault rifles for citizen use and hold only for closely monitored military use, and nothing less, a lot of people would he alive right now if America were smarter.

@@michelangelo7441 Australia being a country and continent doesn't border any other land. America waged war on drugs and the black markets thrive on its continued failure. What would happen if we make the guns illegal? Australia can ban whatever they want and regardless of what it is it'll be easier to enforce due to geography. I'm just saying it sounds simpler than it is. I'm not arguing with you.

@@michelangelo7441 WRONG!!! After Australia banned firearms there was a uprising in crime and violent crime especially. The US isn't first in school shootings, or gun violence. 2 million lives are saved in the defensive use of firearms. 15k excluding suicides are killed a year. What are 'assault weapons' there is no legal definition. Also full auto arms are extremely regulated by the goverment and very expensive. The teacher has a gun! Let me give you a scenario. Shooter: **Kills 3 kids** Teacher: **Pulls out CC weapon and kills shooter** See this means less death than more death. Most shootings aren't from kids grabbing a gun (technically they are) but negligent parents since I keep it in a 3000 usd safe that is near impossible to get into. Almost all shootings use illegally obtained firearms. It's why we want to build a wall. The only way to stop a bad guy with a gun is a good guy with a gun. Cain killed Abel without a gun. Evil people will do evil things. A gun or knife can kill people. Should we ban knives? Also cars kill many more people and are big metal blocks at high speeds. Should we ban cars? We can get around without them... Subway, bike, electric scooter, or walking. Just because something can kill doesn't mean it is any less important. You can ram somebody with a car or even more deadly a truck or stab somebody with a kitchen knife while not watching. Give the good guys guns. We have strict regulations already on who can buy and not buy or even own a legal firearm. You are misinformed and your arguement is so many logical fallacies. Get a grip and face the truth.

PureNT "when the civil right is bringing more harm than good, it's obvious that something needs to change" Well we can talk about that when that actually happens. If you honestly think that a few dozen deaths from the hands of a crazy few is 'more harm' than all the crimes and evil stopped by guns - whether fired or just used as a deterrent - you're drinking the Kool-Aid. Yes, the Democratic laws are useless. Yes, the NRA is a bit out of touch. I agree there should be some minimal training at least(especially after hearing a gun shop owner say he's sold people guns who *didn't know they had to pull the trigger* to fire it). There are already limits to psychological background when buying a gun, though I think forcing an evaluation is overkill. Maybe we can start by requiring background check paperwork even for private party sales? Seems like a good first step to keeping known criminals and mentally ill people from getting them.

Are you a civilian? How do you feel about Syria, where millions of innocent people have been bombed clean out of their capitals just a few years ago? War sucks, period. Regardless of who it's against, or what means it's conducted under. Rule-governed wars simply don't exist. People will get extorted, tortured, disenfranchised, diseased, killed. People will get shot. Families will lose fathers, mothers, wives, brothers, sisters, children. In a warzone, radiation poisoning is probably the last concern. After all, those who suffer from it are those who were lucky enough to survive. :/

My question is...would the anti gun advocates be ok if all children and teachers take "run hide fight" classes with an emphasis on the techniques of fighting back using th swarm techniques as a last resort....but without armed teachers? Im guessing they wouldn't even want to do that kind of training because they would say they are training teachers and kids to be "Rambo" if a man with a gun came to their school and even fighting back would be the wrong thing to do. Self defense simply does not matter to the anti gun crowd. They will train for fires but preparing for an active shooter is excessive to them.
@shananagans5
@shananagans5 10 жыл бұрын
Interesting thought. In general, you are better off fighting back but I am not sure how effective young children would be. High school aged, yes, they could take someone down easily, Grade schoolers???? I am a criminologist / forensic psychologist so I have two main concerns. One, the mental health of the children. Is it really worth scaring them & creating that paranoia over something that is excessively rare? Will training the children really help much? The criminologist side knows getting rid of gun free zones is the easiest, most practical way to help. Allowing school staff to carry if they want to will take the target off the schools. High levels of training would help but aren't really even needed. The anti-gun crowd screams "what if a teacher hits a student?" That could happen & that is a terrible thought but, what is important here is shifting the violence away from the schools. Most mass shooters stop when faced with resistance so I think more situations will be helped by having armed teachers but, even if a situation comes up where an armed teacher makes it worse we are still going to shift the overall pattern away from the schools. That is the big picture. Worst case scenario here: Every school shooting results in a teacher causing 1 additional death. We are still way ahead of the game if we cut down the number of school shootings by 50%. School A, B and C had an additional death but schools D, E, and F never had a shooting. Criminology works with patterns & societal rates. Yes, having a gun in the home increases the chance of an accident. The chances of an accident is 100% dependent on the individual household but, on a societal level, there will be accidents. Now, on the other hand, guns in the home keep criminals out. Criminology is concerned with the net effect on society. Are we better off with the accidents & keeping criminals out or are we better off banning guns? We know what that net effect is. There is an entire body of professional literature out there with literally millions of studies on virtually everything you could imagine. Guns & crime is the 2nd most studied social issue in the world, right behind drugs. We know what is going on & I have a hard time taking the anti-gun groups seriously. We know getting rid of gun free zones will shift patterns away from schools. It's not my opinion & I think it's unethical to not consider doing something we know will help over a political idealism. It's like a religious group denying their children modern medicine. It's just insane. Are lives worth the idealism? In my book, ethically, we must push for what we know will help the situation. lol Anyways, I am rambling. Good Day !!

shananagans5 Its odd that after 38 kids were killed in a school fire almost 90 years ago en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bath_School_disaster, we do mandatory fire drills even though no child has died in a school fire in decades due to upgrades in fire security systems. Yet when 20 kids are killed in a schools shooting we can't wrap our heads around the simple fact that we need to do more than just ban guns. That is about as useless as banning arson. How would banning fire save lives when the fire is raging inside the school? Kids drilled in atomic bomb response in the 50's. Im sure that was traumatic but that whole generation endured the drills. The threat of an atomic bomb was enough to justify the drills. Active shooters are a modern day atomic bomb or massive fire. If we do nothing but write paper laws to deal with them instead of instilling "physical" responses...we shouldn't be shocked at the next mass murder. Yes there will be another regardless of any law you write. Look at what happened yesterday in Pittsburg. 20 kids were stabbed. Nothing will ever stop a crazy person except "use of force". Guns may not be the answer, but what about 10 or 20 teachers with tasers? Concealed and trained to use them properly. When there is a mountain lion or bear loose in urban sprawl areas we use tranquilizer guns. Again, 10 or 20 teachers with tranquilizer guns and the will to protect kids is a force to be reckoned with. Of course, anti gun liberals will make an excuse to deny a non-lethal option too because they live in a fantasy world where they think a piece of paper will protect them.

+Electronicdawg Ordinarily, I would dismiss that as a facetious, rhetorical question, but there are so many clueless rubes these days, I will answer. The cult is the "Guns, guns, guns" cult. It's members masturbate to posters of Ted Nugent. They only think about being able to shoot people who irritate them. They don't care about what their beliefs mean in the big picture. They are childish, selfish twits who think it is reasonable for the law to be that, essentially, whoever feels like it should be able to arbitrarily prance around in public with guns. They think that more guns is always the answer. They are brainwashed zombies who think that anyone who says a word about ANY rational gun control is someone who simply wants to ban all guns. They are crazed, obsessed gun "walkers" who are (usually unknowingly) doing the bidding of gun manufacturers, via the NRA's directives. That is the cult about which you asked.

+slyjokerg I think prepare something is better than nothing, because that is why Japanese kids always are training about the earthquake. By the way, I have somewhat different idea, because I've never seen some logical gun control argument yet. Nobody think an argument about 30 magazine clip half second joking is rational. In many case school is gun free zone, and if the shooter coming, who would block that? Do not say that if gun control that idiot gun hater who cannot identified differences between semi auto and assault rifle and cosmetic ban could make a MAGIC of changing semi auto to full auto. I want to ask, very practical way. I think the people in the video do something best that they could do, because if the local LE does not have enough manpower, nobody can control the free of gun free zone, and if the budget of school is not quite enough, it is hard to hire an armed guard for protecting children.
@evilizedempire9500
@evilizedempire9500 8 жыл бұрын
+slyjokerg And I'm very sorry about that, even somebody's truly stupid Ar15 demonizing fetish would be turned to a real gun control, The mass shooting will conducting will be in same feature, and gun free zone is remaining a hunting free zone. The reason is simple because gun grabber's illusion is if some strong law hold the gun mass shooter will not get the gun. It is real fantasy, because they would get the gun in any way, any method, and with any price. Or slightly change their strategy, for instance torch the school and waiting for escaping people with some knives, axe or whatever they can hold. Do you think it is delusional? if you know, what happen in Seoul, 2008, you cannot say that. The change of killing tool can make a change of strategy, but it could not make stop the murders, because it is just time issue that how to build a new strategy with a new tools for killing people. There are nothing rational in the gun grabber's fantasy, and not good enough detail for making a logic. Their own stupidity is reason of failure.

It doesn't matter whether you agree with how your government is spending the money; it's either pay taxes or go to prison. And with that, even the people who don't agree with the war(s) and activly protest, still involuntarily contribute to footing the bill. And then we go back to KIDS. We started talking to a guy in another lane (People at ranges tend to be the most friendly people you will meet) and started talking about the different guns we had. He had some 9mm pistol that was only available to police, and he was an off duty officer. He offered to let us fire it and I got better groupings on his target with his pistol and I have no professonal training. I don't say that to brag, I say that with a sad face. A cop, who's job includes carrying a firearm, should be a better shot than a guy who only goes to the range ever so often (because ammo is expensive) to pratice as a hobby.

i remember reading a statistic showing a 30%-70% hit miss ratio for officers who fire their weapons on duty. in theory, 70% are potential stray bullets. asside from that, handguns require megatons of experience just to use safely in a tactical situation. most officers dont have that muscle memory.

The Viet Cong defeated the US with asymmetric warfare, both politically and conventionally. You have to remember, all those tanks, drones, and stealth bombers are useless against guerilla's in the US mainland as the political backlash of bombing a city block with a hellfire missile would cost you the war instantly. Thats implying the US military would even fight a war with the US citizens in the first place, service members aren't mindless automatons they can choose to say no to a order.

I don't get the people against training students to fight an active shooter. The present day philosophy is to lock the classroom doors and hide, which helps no one. A person with a rifle or shotgun will take out the locks on a door in seconds and will then have a nice set of bundled targets to shoot at. Having armed response inside the schools, as much as that leaves a bad taste in some folks mouth, is the only answer to this sort of issue. Want to stop a shooter, send bullets back in their direction. You can't reason with people who try to kill dozens of other people for no decent reason.

There IS NO real life 'weapon training,' it doesn't exist. Doesn't matter WHO you are, you're no more 'trained' than anyone else that hasn't been in a gun fight. The police and the military train in firing rounds at various targets and other gimmicky modalities but in reality, they are no more 'trained' than anyone else that hasn't been in a gun fight. You know in your mind that after your done, you're going to get in your car and drive home. The closest you can get to real training is when that first chunk of lead whizzes by your ear. Then, you can say you've been trained. You just might not be alive to actually train anyone else.

Tuco Benedicto Pacifico Juan Maria Ramirez Listen bro, before throwing the world 'retarded' around for no reason, try recognizing the fact that we really don't know the big picture yet, as much as we've been introduced to portions of it over the years, I think there's a huge fragile political infrastructure that the average people just can't handle. I'm not saying you're inferior in anyway, I just think we are underestimating what's really going on. On the other hand I might be wrong.

This school is insane. I wish they understood that guns are for killing. Guns are for killing. This is not political ideology. a gun is a weapon and a weapon is designed to kill. I wish people understood this more. Once they do they will have much better respect for firearms. We live in a world ironically where people feel they can rely on a firearm.

I'm a notoriously left wing person, feel free to check my comment history and if you want I'll give you my blog, I was liberal about guns like you for years. My position changed to making it the only thing I am conservative on when I began to consider new perspectives on self preservation and gun ownership ethics. I live in Alberta, Canada where guns are just as common as in most states in America and yet gun violence is half as common. Its true these are nonetheless weapons solely built for killing things. But as an objective person I realize the realities of society and can say that I no more blame gun ownership but rather gun sensationalizing. Its the affinity many Americans have with guns that causes so much fanaticism and violence. I'm not advocating an every day concealed carry for all citizens like some whack jobs but there is power to non denominational vigilantes, individuals that are prepared and willing but LOOKING for a fight. There is a power to having an armed force, like I said I'm hardly conservative but there is merit to he empowerment of a people and the self defense ethics that may serve to show the level of commitment people have to their communities. I don't think an armed patrol is going to help but if guns are treated like bloc parent programs where people are ready to utilize them in a castle situation. Used and safely stored in ballistic safes they can be adopted to serve people rather than mythicize them into fun little things that are shiny and go boom.

They Do understand it, dumbass. They carry guns so that they can KILL a lunatic who gets into the school to attack children. Dead bad guys are better than dead children by a long shot. But maybe you'd prefer to explain to an armed attacker that guns are for killing and killing is bad. Maybe you would prefer to disarm the law-abiding and leave them defenseless to criminals with illegal guns, explosives, firebombs, blunt objects, etc, curled up in the fetal position and dying while waiting for the police to get their shit together, because in your sick fucking worldview, being prepared to defend yourself and those around you is insane, and indoctrinated helplessness in the face of deadly evil makes perfect sense.

Firearms are used for many things, and killing is one of them. This is true. However, we live in a day and age where there are bad people using many types of tools as weapons to bring harm to people. If we can balance the scale by teaching and training our educators in schools and our children then we are one step ahead of the bad guy. In a society where the bad guy does not know who is armed or not, is a society that WILL see less killings in schools and other public places. It is a fact, an unfortunate one, but nevertheless it is a fact. facebook.com/groups/responsiblegunowners/

***** I think the problem is the confusion between paranoia and gun fanaticism and personal conviction, responsibility and the merit of being prepared rather than vulnerable. Yes there are gun nuts out there who are insane and patrolling their neighborhood and shooting black kids. That does not also mean that there are no practical reasons to own a firearm. I'm mostly left wing myself but too many liberals today do not seem to understand that there are perceived evils yes but there are also very real evils that may be unexpected. The condom philosophy is perfect logic, I would rather have it and not need it than need it and not have it. May personal defense never suffer at the actions of sadists. You don't have to be an NRA member to realize that making all guns illegal would not end gun violence, psycho public shooters will stop at nothing to do what they want, a lack of license wont stop criminals from buying illegal guns.

As a former LEO and having spent almost 50 years in the field, Officers do not get years of training in their field. Academies are anywhere from 12 weeks to 16 weeks and then they go on training in the field by a Field Training Officer for a few weeks and then you’re on your own. Every year you have to get some training to keep up your certification which includes qualifying at the pistol range any other training you want you have to do on your own time. Most Officers don’t have the time to get extra training as they have to work over time or extra security details in order to make enough money to support their families, Police Officers have a high rate of divorce because of the time they spent away from home working and because of the stress of their jobs

None of what they are pretending will happen is actually going to happen, both in regard to it going down how they imagine, and in the sense that there is essentially no chance such an incident will occur at this school. It is a fantasy to think that this play acting crap is ever going to stop someone from shooting up a school. It is a joke.

slyjokerg a grammar nazi classic always arrogant and getting off topic. i believe the training could be useful in a shooting situation as useful as anything to prevent a shooting i suppose. while it may be true a shooting is super rare and not that big of a deal people refuse to treat it as such anywhere so why not go over board here to.
@slyjokerg
@slyjokerg 8 жыл бұрын
+claron plays It isn't about being a grammar nazi, kiddo. It was a bit ironic that you tried to imply something being deficient about others when you don't even know the difference between then/than. I wasn't implying anything about the topic of the video, other than to expose that the people that are commonly stomping their feet about gun rights are uneducated jackasses. As far as the "training" goes, it is absurd to think that putting these children through bullshit drills in which there is ZERO chance of ANY type of harm to anyone would be useful in a situation in which someone comes into a school (UNANNOUNCED) with an assault weapon. That would be true even if there was some sort of basis to think it actually might happen, and of course, there isn't. This is nothing but a matter of gun nuts trying to instill gun nut mentality into children. It is the same type of brainwashing that occurs re: religion, and what do you know... this is also a religious school.

You can't substitute for the years of training law enforcement officers get....wow. They aren't substituting anything, they are supplementing it. No matter how you spin it those kids are going to be on their own while the professionals mobilize. Teaching a class full of kids that is about to be gunned down how to give themselves a fighting chance is doing them a favor. How twisted we have become where teaching people how to defend themselves has become the wrong choice.
@JohnBastardSnow
@JohnBastardSnow 9 жыл бұрын
It's a waste of time. Using the same logic, you would then have to waste time teaching people how to dodge a lightning. The probability of either thing happening is extremely low. If some of those people would want to learn self-defense, they can learn it individually. There is no reason to steal everybody's time to indulge in irrational phobias of some people. But, in any case, the school system itself is outdated and is an embodiment of inefficiency and irrationality.
