For the past 11 years, Chrissy Steltz had been living without a face.
After an accident with a shotgun destroyed her face and left her blind, Steltz made incredible strides toward living a normal life. She learned to read Braille and use a cane. She met her boyfriend in a school for the blind. And she gave birth to a son on July 23, 2009.

The fact that insurance refused to pay for this is so disgusting and disappointing. Bless those doctors for doing it for free.

Nikki Lyn yes I agree however you must take into account and I’m sure in that the insurance company did and that’s why they didn’t want to Pay what they should have no to, because of the simple fact that she was in the getaway car while her friends were stealing guns she know what was going on so she along with her friends must share in the burden or what turn Out to be a tragic event, don’t hang out with people that you know are only going to mess up your life I would think for a person with straight A’s she should have know that, and I know that I sound like I don’t care but that’s not it that quite the opposite I do feel sorry for her but I was a 28+ year retired law-enforcement officer 👮‍♀️ I’ve seen a lot of kids come and go over stupid stuff that could’ve been easily avoided thank God she didn’t get killed now she has to and her friends as well must share in her burden, also at 16 years of age living with a 18 year old do you know That the 18-year-old should have been charged as a child molester but that’s a different subject.

@@louiegutierrez8244 I agree. It's sad and it seems so unfair, but at the same time there are consequences to her being a criminal and hanging out with criminal friends. We should be less disgusted by the cost to piece her back together again and more grateful that, despite her stupid decisions back as a kid, several doctors stepped up and gave her a second chance for free.

I work for a company that provides customer service and other support for Medicare beneficiaries. Did you know that Medicare doesn't cover dental, vision or hearing? Yeah. I was blown away when I learned that too. They cover medical exams/treatments for vision like cataract surgery, retinopathy, etc but will not pay for an eye exam to get glasses nor will they pay for glasses (except for one basic pair after cataract surgery). They cover maybe 1 % of the most severe dental procedures like getting teeth repaired after reconstruction of the jaw after radiation therapy for cancer of the jaw. Again...they cover hearing tests if theres a medical condition that needs to be diagnosed but dont cover standard hearing tests nor do they cover hearing aids. Its beyond ridiculous!

"He said it wasn't loaded" We have guns. My extended family has guns. Number one rule of handling guns is ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS treat the weapon as if it is loaded. Always. NEVER point a gun at someone even if you know for a fact that it's unloaded.
@delaney6413
@delaney6413 4 жыл бұрын
This. I don't know a whole lot about guns, but I've shot a pistol a grand total of 4 times. My father told me that even if I unload the gun, a bullet is still in the chamber, but stupid people don't realize that and die because of it. It's how my cousin died with his last words being "It ain't even got a bullet in it, stupid!"
@Widdekuu91
@Widdekuu91 4 жыл бұрын
Exactly. Never point the gun at something unless you intend on destroying it. I've had someone point an airsoft-gun at me, I'm not sure if it was loaded, but I was a meter away from the thing, sat in my pyjamas on the couch watching Big Bang Theory and I remember the feeling and it was awful. We'd just had an argument and the person aimed it at my face and went; 'Poof..poof..bang..bang..' and made gestures as if he'd just shot my head off. I said; 'Why would you do that?' and I remember him going; 'Jeesh, it was just a joke' but a week later, he got a gun with tiny bullets (air-rifle or air-gun it's called I think) and pointed it at his friends after he got drunk, saying; 'Any last words, Rob?' Eventually he hung out of the window at night, aiming his airsoft-gun at the ankles of cycling ladies that passed by. He said he liked to hear the older ladies scream from shock and pain when it hit their ankles, but he said they probably thought it was a pebble that hit them, so it was fine, 'he wouldn't get caught.' At some point he started displaying his guns on the wall, started to say; 'That man needs to be shot' or 'she needs to be dipped in boiling oil' or he'd pretend to shoot someone in the head after an argument, with his hand and go; 'Pfoow!' I'm glad I'm not sleeping next to him anymore. I felt anything but safe.

I don't think that the doctors wouldn't treat other patients because they were seeing her that is a terrible thing to say I would think that Dr would want to help every single person that they could in their practice and not just pick out specific ones but yes they wanted to help her have some kind of normalcy because the insurance would not pay to have this done and you know what it all comes down to the money and we know that bought these doctors offered to do this for her I like I said I don't think that other patients weren't seen so the writer who wrote that get over it, doctors take an oath to help and that's what they were doing.

This gives hope for so many people with facial and other deformities, such as those from animal attacks, war wounds & burns, that they can once again feel whole and just like “everyone else” in their appearance. Hmm, nope, I don't feel cput in my place". I was born with my illness that will kill me.... She had her face blown off by an idiot whom she helped to rob a store. She was also a drug dealer. Play stupid games, win stupid prizes. I feel for her, I do, but I didn't have a choice, she did and she made ALL the wrong ones. Call me heartless, but I'm not telling people they can't feel bad because a criminal was shot 🙄

Sending more love and healing to her. Hope she gets lots of happiness and heals from what happened. Yes she was not the most innocent but I think she learnt and now she has moved on to be a better person. More power to her. May she keep achieving all her dreams and get all the happiness. She deserves it. ❤️

She was not charged for the robbery because they felt she was punished enough. The truth is probably that they did not want the state to pay for her medical needs if she was imprisoned. Glad she is living a good life, but the price was very high.

@@jenniferoviawe she was 16. if you’re grown, you should think back and recollect all of your bad choices in your teenage years. you may not have done this in particular, but you weren’t perfect either. she wasn’t the one /stealing/ them, she might not have even known, she was in the getaway car; she could’ve been dragged into the situation.

They got a bunch of publicity that's all they cared about. 1 Corinthians 6:9-11 Do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived. Neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor [a]homosexuals, nor [b]sodomites, 10 nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners will inherit the kingdom of God. 11 And such were some of you. But you were washed, but you were [c]sanctified, but you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus and by the Spirit of our God.

Yes of course just because she got shot dosen't mean she's justified for her actions or what's happend to her though wether a man/or woman she wasn't one to commit suicide and another video that i saw the man did I feel bad for both but more for the man because I am a 16 as of now I was going to put a shotgun to the head and If i shot myself I see I would survive and I would not want to become this wether suicide or accident we should all be gratefull for our faces and our mouths being disfiguered on purpose or accident is crucial value yourself your face that god has given you.
