HFY is a story/series that takes a “human element” in either humanity or an “other” (race/species or object) that exists in a “setting” (future or other world/universe) with varying levels of culture, technology, society and history that help show in some shape or form the potential good or bad for humanity’s race/culture. In These stories Humans are often referred to as Human, Humanity, Deathworlder, Hellwolder in reference to the human planet of origin , Earth. This planet is seen by most of the universe as a place where only death and chaos can survive.

Humans Are Space Orcs (HASO) or Humans Are (Fantasy Race) Are used as a guide when writing.
In these Stories we normally View humans like the other races view orcs in a Fantasy Novel. We (Humans) share the same characteristics and personalities as orcs. Humans are normally treated as the outsiders and barbarians. Humans tend to be underestimated as well in these stories. Unlike Humanity Feck Yea , these don't always put a positive spin on humans\humanity sometimes looking at the darker side of human and humanity from the perspective of aliens.

I thought for a moment this was inspired by a WW2 vet that went to war with a sword, Mad Jack Churchill, but he was a Scotsman. With the sword having a name more linked to Irish Mythology I was not sure. I know Irish Mythology is Celtic, and the Highlanders are also Celts, hence both using the "mac" patronym in their names, BUT that sword belonged to an Irish King. So no, not Jack Churchill. Funny he pulled the sword from a "stone" too, mixing in even more mythologies into the whole story. A truly badass tale. It would still be cool to have more badass soldiers from history like Mad Jack get incorporated into HFY stories like this one.

Churchill wasn't Scottish though, he just used bagpipes and a Scottish sword in some of his mad shenanigans. He was born in Ceylon (Sri Lanka), and his family was from Oxfordshire in England.

@@nightchicken283 pretty sure caladbolg was a sword, you may be confusing it with gaebolg the spear. It fits the able to 'cleave the top of hills' but the couldn't be sheathed part I think isn't included. I am curious on if caladbolg influenced caladfwlch (later caliburn>excalibur) since I'm seeing kind of conflicting info on it.

Yeah, schools rarely have it as part of their curriculums. How do they think we are to properly handle the real world if we can't disjoin our limbs from our torsos and independently direct them to do various tasks? It is so difficult to multitask with just one contiguous, static form. Health class really let us down.

Actually feel sorry for A'htung. Poor alien commander didn't have a lot of choice in the war. If there was no war, he'd probably have been a good and honest business person. Well done story. 2nd story: Not sure what Clowie is, but don't think she's human. Maybe humans put alien DNA with theirs for this story - but wow, this time of human is scary.

There's a fan story about the Thing from it's perspective in which it doesn't even realize it's victims are intelligent beings at first and when it does it's repulsed by human brains which it compares to "sentient tumors". It first realizes something is up when the bodies it takes over continue going about their business without it doing anything and gradually figures out that unlike life elsewhere in the universe earth life doesn't distribute functionality throughout it biomass which is in it's perception gross and disgusting.
