I’ve been shooting since age 11, and because I was taught safe gun handling I will never hurt someone with a gun unless it’s self defense. If the adults teach their children the dos and don’ts of guns, stricture gun laws is just going to fuel the illegal gun handling. If we have more mental health help that can slow down the violence as well. The majority of gun owners are responsible gun owners and not out running the streets shooting people. If you have children in the house with guns teach them safe gun handling, and the laws they need to follow around guns,those guns should also be locked up and out of the reach of the children. I’m not giving up my guns especially not the antique one I have from WWI

Declaring it a Public Health Crisis does not entitle the Surgeon General to methods of disarming Americans. It does however, allocate funds appropriately to different agencies for research and the acceptable level of action to mitigate the crisis. You are being an alarmist.

I'm a gun owner and he wasn't wrong in a lot of ways. I've always said mental health expansion is the number one thing needed done. Harsher penalties for minor gun related crimes and bring back police teaching gun safety to kids like they did decades ago when this wasn't an issue. . It covers all the bases for everyone and improve other Americans lives in multiple ways.

Mental health expansion should have been a priority. For quite a few years now, I have been told that this isn’t a gun problem, it is a mental health problem. Admitting there is a problem is step 1, but there are more steps to take after that. The government has failed in that regard. I will say, people that are diagnosed with a mental health disorder are less likely to resort to gun violence. Research has been conducted on that front.
