So enjoyed this video. In 2006 I heard on the radio that Winchester was closing down the factory. I immediately (that same day) found and bought a 2006 model 94 and a 2005 model 9422. I’m SO glad I did. I treasure those rifles and will pass them down.

Yeah the Pacific Northwest is a region that is largely overlooked with gun writers/channels. Seems everyone says out east it’s brushy and out west it’s more open. They obviously don’t mean "all the way out west” western Oregon , Washington , BC and southeast Alaska are as brushy(and steep) as it gets. Anyway love all my lever actions out here , never needed anything more

Hats off to you sir. That being said, I mowed yards for years as a kid, and in 1968 my dad took me to Sterlings here in Dallas and he let me buy a ‘94 Winchester in 1968. I was 11 years old. Picked up two 9422’s last year. A shooter which has been meticulously cared for and one new in box. The new one is a 1981 and the used one is a 1972 according to serial numbers. Have not shot the new in box, it will go to one of my Grandchildren along with a new in box Marlin model 39 I have. I have shooters in both rifles and can easily spend the entire afternoon shooting cans and steel targets while eating an entire 500 round brick of ammo. Thank you for a wonderful video and for reminding me to get out there tomorrow morning with one of my lever guns and a smith and wesson model 17 and burn some ammo.its amazing that the younger generation will bring in these guns which have been left to them from parents or grandparents to shop and trade in for some new plastic tactical wonder nine.

As a student of GunBlueU I have learned and be so informed by you so, I feel I should be paying tuition and I gladly would if you were a Patreon channel. I responded to one of the remarks with the following: "Jim Cat I find the details of Mr. GunBlues's narratives to be the best on the net. There is no scripting, just Mr. GunBlue's vast knowledge and willing to share and educate the viewer which we followers refer to as a class at GunBlueU. Mr. Gunblue is a treasurer and anybody wanting to correctly learn anything about all aspects of the world of firearms should signup and enroll at GunBlueU or properly at GunBlue490 on his KZbin channel. Welcome Back is my favorite way to start a day 😊" Sir, someday I hope to meet you and until then, I thank you for your kindness and knowledge that you have bestowed one and so many others. I bought a 9422 in 22Mag about 1985. It has beautiful wood, sharp checkering and a gloss shine. Very accurate and I keep the groundhogs heads on a swivel. It has all the markings that makes it one of the expensive ones. Actually did not know the value until a couple years ago. She was just a beautiful rifle to me. It was fired abouy a 100 times if that. Some of my ammo have prices around $7. Later tonight I will check to see it it is a takedown model....That would be a surprise. I was young when I bought it and not a gun savvy person. With the internet I realized that with my youthful ignorance but a love of quality I stumbled into some coveted guns and knives.

When I watched your video on the 30-30 cartridge you inspired me to find a Model 94. I have a beautiful 1956 Model 94 in 30-30 that I have used with great success in the deer woods. My first deer hunt alone I caught a young buck off-guard while taking a short rest on a log. I immediately thought about how right you were about distance and optics, if I had a 3-9 scope like everyone else I wouldn't have been able to see him trot by at 15 yards or so. Thanks for equipping me the knowledge that seems to have been pushed aside for the purpose of separating hunters from their hard earned money..

What you said about snow on the ground making it feel colder than the ambient temperature is interesting. I am a sailor and people want to sail on the first sunny day of the Summer. I remind everyone to bring a sweater. The water temperature makes it feel much colder than it is on land. At the same time, the higher water temperature at the end of Summer extends the sailing season. I am also a fan of Revere Beach. The bandstand and Kelly's Roast Beef are about all that have survived the era. The merry-go-round is still spinning at Nantasket Beach.

Really enjoy your videos and have learned quite a bit from them. The first one was how to clean a lever action rifle. I just got back from my local sporting goods dealer. The intent was to use their FFL services, but when I looked in their used gun dept., there on the wall was hanging the Winchester model 9422 that I was going to purchase from another location. The intended 9422 was an XTR, however this one was $300 cheaper and in great shape, and appears to be a 1974, according to serial # data I researched. Thanks for all your shared knowledge. Enjoy.

While watching this video, I had to reach over and pick up and cycle my Grandfather's 1894 rifle. A 26" octagon that he bought when he was 12 years old, in 1918, for $7.00. The rifle was used when he bought it, and was 15 years old when he acquired it. He passed it to my Father, who was the first born, and it passed to me, also first born. Behind me, I have a first born son, and his first born, my Grandson. That it be passed down along that line was Grandpa Walton's wish, and it will be so. Grandpa used that rifle until just after WWII when he acquired a 99 Savage in .300, which was scoped. He mentioned many times that he "killed enough mule deer to fill his house top to bottom" with that 94. It helped feed them through the depression, and kept varmints and critters out of his crops. Helluva rifle, that one! I took a part time job in my off-duty time when I was stationed at Malmstrom AFB, Mont., at a place called Morris Sporting Goods, on the 200 block of Central Ave. in Great Falls. IIRC, we always had 9422's in the rack, and they sold steadily, if not briskly, at 'around' $175 US. Back then, firearms could be purchased and taken back and forth across the US/Canadian border freely, as long as they were declared and the duty paid, and quite a few ended up going north to Alberta from our shop. I never could muster enough cash to spring for one of the 9422's, and it was only until late last year that I finally got mine. It's a 9422 XTR, the one with the longer barrel, pistol grip w/cap, and blued crescent butt plate. Still unfired, in the box, wrap, and with the 'hanging papers' in the box with it. Sadly, by the time I got through giving the Governor his share of the sale, I ended up just north of $1200 in the thing. Still, a bargain in my mind. I see them bringing a lot more than that these days. I only wish that I'd had sense enough to buy the Eagle Scout gun to put on my "I Love Me Wall" along with my badge, and certificate. Speaking of BSA....I pretty much got my introduction to organized shooting at Camp Little Lemhi, above the South Fork of the Snake River here in Idaho. Back then, I got my 'NRA smallbore Junior expert' badge, shooting a surplus Mossberg 44. I DID have sense and wherewithal to snag one of those from the CMP!

I don't think lighting is a problem with your excellent presentation and story telling skills. Or at least I've never noticed the lighting and I've enjoyed all of your videos. And thank you for another wonderful video.

Love all your videos, I have the 9422 XTR made in 1978. Best 22 levers made over all others. Still waiting for a further in depth video on the Model 61

You just educated me! A buddy of mine had a little 32 cal. lever gun back in the 70's but it was shorts we hunted with. His Grandfather's rifle

I’d love to own a pre 64 as old as I am (72). The green bananas made me laugh. Thanks for your dedication to gun history and education. I’ve learned so much from your videos.

You can still find pre 64s for sale online you just have to be prepared to pay at least a grand for them. I just checked GUNBROKER for the heck of it. I put in Winchester model 94 and the first two that came up were pre 64s for around a grand. Check them out.

I bought a 9422M XTR maybe 4 years ago. New in box, made in 1979. They are just beautiful and fun to shoot. My eyes have been giving up so I mounted a Leupold 4X. Sights and target are just blurred.
