My brother and I watch bad movies together as a pastime. This was one of his random choices and from the title, we braced ourselves for a real stink fest. It turned out to be the worst bad movie he's ever chosen, in that: it's a delightful film. We loved it, fun characters, surprising cinetography and technical direction, great costumes, skilled and talented actors, and just enough stretching of reality to make this so much fun. I LOVED this move and will be watch it again for many years to come!

Sky Bandits! (As it was titled when released in the USA, anyway). Loved this movie when it came out during my fifth grade year and I still love it today! This was such a fun, lighthearted adventure film! To lift my spirits after watching the much darker "1917", I watch this film! LOL!

A good 'popcorn' film, thanks for the post. Historical notes : The Gunbus (Fe 2) was for it's time a plane pilots liked but... As described by Frederick Libby, an American ace who served as an F.E.2b observer in 1916 : When you stood up to shoot, all of you from the knees up was exposed to the elements. There was no belt to hold you. Only your grip on the gun and the sides of the nacelle stood between you and eternity. Toward the front of the nacelle was a hollow steel rod with a swivel mount to which the gun was anchored. This gun covered a huge field of fire forward. Between the observer and the pilot a second gun was mounted, for firing over the F.E.2b's upper wing to protect the aircraft from rear attack ... Adjusting and shooting this gun required that you stand right up out of the nacelle with your feet on the nacelle coaming. You had nothing to worry about except being blown out of the aircraft by the blast of air or tossed out bodily if the pilot made a wrong move. There were no parachutes and no belts. No wonder they needed observers. Airships quickly became a scourge. German Zeppelins bombed Liège and Antwerp in Belgium. Reginald “Rex” Warneford of the Royal Naval Air Service, flying a Moraine-Saulnier airplane, took off on June 6 from an airfield in Belgium with a load of six bombs for a bombing raid on, ironically enough, airship sheds. Spotting airship LZ37 he attacked, was driven off by machine-gun fire, but gained enough altitude to swoop down on the airship, dropping a bomb on it and destroying it. Warneford’s airplane was damaged by the explosion, forcing him to land behind enemy lines. He managed to repair his aircraft, restart his engine, take off and fly back to his base. This remarkable display of skill and coolness (and also a demonstration of the inherent vulnerability of the slow, hydrogen-filled Zeppelin) resulted in an award of the Victoria Cross, Britain’s highest award for bravery.

Was the soundtrack meant to be like that? especially nearer the end? Still an enjoyable flight of whimsy!! But one thing, Why did they call the plane the GUNBUS when there wasn't a gun on it???
@kylynnscott3322 жыл бұрын
The model of plane used originally had a gun, and was the first fighter, dubbing it ‘gunbus’ IDK why this one doesn’t have it

I just wish one of two things had happened: either we got to see the massive German zeppelin warship crash and burn like the Hindenburg, OR the sky bandits turned the warship and the base into their own personal pirate base, and became true Pirates of the Skies, so there could have been a high adventure sequel. Just going back to pooting around in the gunbus was a bit of a waste of potential. Just to honor him, I would have renamed the warship THE FRITZ.
