I don't understand how a franchise like this has failed so hard in the West. It's serious tones are phenomenal and the stories are well told.

I think it's never been given a real chance to succeed. The only exposure I ever had to Gundam was when Wing and G Gundam used to air on Toonami in the early 2000s, every other series I watched since was the result of me searching it out myself on the internet. I LOVED that shit when I was a kid in elementary school and it colored my media tastes for the rest of my life, but I think too few kids got exposed to it to grow a large fanbase in the U.S., which created a snowball effect of the copyright holders not thinking it was worth investing in western markets, which continued to shrink the fanbase further over time. It's a shame, I mean really how is an average person going to be exposed to anything Gundam related these days except through luck or prior knowledge? Gundam just doesn't have the cultural penetration to be widely popular in the west; I'm pleasantly surprised that this game even has an english translation, let alone U.S. servers. I didn't even know this game existed until I saw Moistcritical streaming it on twitch to like 15k people.

The quality of the Gundam series has gone down over the years, with Gundam 00 being, with iron blooded orphans being one that just didn't get liked by a lot of people, and with the new divers whatever anime being a video game thing, there's just not been a lot that's iconic and can be latched on to by fans. It also seems like there's less super robot and giant robot anime in general.

A new Gundam game?! And it has fast paced gameplay?!! And it has a variety of mobile suits?!!! And it's a free to play multiplayer grind that will eat my soul for the next progress bar? Let me know when an actual game comes out for the Gundam franchise, not a cash grab multiplayer free to play pile of garbage that I won't play because it wants to suck my wallet dry so that I don't lose my soul to several hours of gameplay a day to keep up. Good promo video though.
