Mitsubishi A6M and Zeonic MS-06 Zaku II
In this video, I'll be going over my favorite parallel between Gundam (U.C) and World War 2: The A6M Zero and MS-06 Zaku II. There are a lot of parallels between these two war machines, even the name are almost identical. Of course, this is just from my own fan observation, I could be totally wrong. Mitsubishi A6M "Zero"
"The Mitsubishi A6M "Zero" is a long-range fighter aircraft manufactured by Mitsubishi Aircraft Company, a part of Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, and operated by the Imperial Japanese Navy from 1940 to 1945. The A6M was designated as the Mitsubishi Navy Type 0 carrier fighter (零式艦上戦闘機 rei-shiki-kanjō-sentōki), or the Mitsubishi A6M Rei-sen. The A6M was usually referred to by its pilots as the "Reisen" (zero fighter), "0" being the last digit of the imperial year 2600 (1940) when it entered service with the Imperial Navy. The official Allied reporting name was "Zeke", although the use of the name "Zero" was later adopted by the Allies as well."
MS-06 Zaku II
"The successor to the first fielded MS, the MS-05 Zaku I, the Zaku II improved on everything the previous model offered. It was faster, far more durable, had a better Minovsky Reactor, and could be fitted with far more weapons. The Zaku II was the mainstay of the Zeon military for most of the One Year War. Even after the MS-09B Dom and MS-09R Rick Dom began to replace it on the front lines, the Zaku still remained the most numerous mobile suit in Zeon's armed forces. As such, the Zaku II formed the backbone of the U.C. 0083 rebels of Operation Stardust and some were even seen as late as U.C. 0088 in both AEUG and Neo Zeon service during the Gryps Conflict and the First Neo Zeon War. The Zaku II was also a common aggressor unit used during training for Earth Federation Forces pilots."

Personally, I actually always thought of Zeon's mainline MS as comparable to the Wehrmacht's Panzers. I.e. the Panzer III is the Zaku I, Panzer IV is the Zaku II (especially when you consider the similarity in the Panzer IV F2 and the Zaku II F2), the Gouf is closer to the Panther while the Dom is the Tiger and the Gelgoog is the King Tiger. Then you have various testing and prototype tanks and MS. In a way, I can imagine the Big Zam being closer to the Sturmtiger. In response to this, the Federation's MS always felt more like Sherman and T-34 variants, thought the Gundam is probably closer to the M26 Pershing or the IS-2.

That is an interesting analysis! I see how you can make correlations to battle tanks. WWII produced some interesting weapons, so I'm sure a little bit of everything was taken for the One Year War.

Somewhat inaccurate. If we're to take the GM as the Sherman or T-34, then they shouldn't have had superior hard statistics than the Gouf, which you liken to the "Panther." While the M4 and T-34 were capable vehicles which were each comparable, or marginally superior to the Pz.Kpfw IV, saying that they're as superior to the Panther as the GM is to the Gouf is silly. The Gouf, even though it's my favorite MS design, was only extremely slightly better than the Zaku II and lightyears worse than the GM. The GM was broken and OP as fuck.

If we go this route what would be the panzer equivalent of the zaku II Kai? (My favorite zaku)

Zeon is Axis in WW2 but in Space and has Mechs really it has both aspects of the Western and Eastern Axis, The Axis overall liked New Tech to the Point its a Crutch and drains their resources both Axis Partners relied on Inovative Tactics Early in WW2 (Blitzkrieg for the Western Axis and Carriers in Eastern Axis) however Both ended up having never really moved on when the Enemy managed to adapt, The Axis are also Notorious for Infighting and lacking in Coardination much like Zeon and are also Autocratic Regimes that are militaristic, Zeon much Like the Axis Lost a Ton of their Experienced Veterans as the War Progressed while their enemies only became More Experienced over time.

@@kingdomofvinland8827Panzer III, being the Most Successful Run of German Tanks being Used for the Majority of the War and being upgraded over time until late in the war when it became outdated, The Panzer Ill saw combat in France, Eastern Europe and North Africa being the most common German Panzer. (Zaku I would be the Panzer II, Panzer IV and Panther would be the Dom or Gouf, The Tiger and King Tiger would be Gelgoog and the Zeong is the Maus Prototype.)
