Always a pleasure to watch you train and work your dogs. I could have used your expertise back in 2006 with my two German Shorthaired pointers. They weren't as "polished" as I would have liked them, but couldn't have asked anymore out of them in the years I had them. They have both passed now (2014 & 2020). They are sorely missed. Thanks for these videos Nick.

Thanks David for your kind words...these videos have only ever been a record of all of my dogs working and training and it has been an extra and unexpected pleasure that other dog handlers find them enjoyable. All the best cheers Nick

You are doing a great job of bringing him on to being a very good Gun Dog. If we are able to travel back to the UK I look forward to hunting over him😀.

@@Pettycordgundogs Slow and steady. Currently I am hold conditioning him, working on his delivery and working on his pattern and the stop whistle. Lets hope travel will be back on in a year or two.

Wow it’s amazing to see how Percy has come on over the year, amazing job Nick! Would be great to come and shoot and work the dogs with you one day. If you ever fancy a day in Somerset you’ll always be welcome.

What a great video. What brand is the remote dummy launcher you used in this video.
@Pettycordgundogs4 жыл бұрын
Hi Gerard, the launcher was made by a company called Lite Launcher but unfortunately they stopped making them a few years ago. There are a few other makes available...probably be worth doing a bit of a search. Hope this helps. Cheers Nick

Percy has come on a treat IMHO. I've a soft spot for Ted though still. Lovely dogs Nick.

My cocker (7 months) is good at bringing back the fetch, but she is reluctant to give it to me. How do I get her to give me the fetch? 2nd question - is it possible to train these dogs to walk on a lead without pulling? Thank you for this informative video :)

Thanks for all your vids Nick they are very helpful. I'm pretty much following step by step with my Cocker who is coming up on a year old. He's doing everything I want except his delivery. He drops a dummy at my feet and I'm having trouble persuading him to present it in his mouth. My fault for giving him too many treats as reward, and he drops the dummy in anticipation. How do you think I can best cure this? I've been moving back and he follows on, but drops it as soon as he gets close. I've cut back on the treats of course! Thanks Nick.

Hi Neil, Thanks for your kind comments and I am pleased you find the videos useful. It is good you have already identified the cause of your “issue” that is half the battle! There are a couple of things you could try, if your dog will walk to heel off the lead as he comes back to you turn away and call him into heel and walk along with him, hopefully he will walk next to you whilst carrying the dummy if he does then you will have to pick your moment to bend down and take it off him. It is about getting him happy and into a habit of holding the dummy, which brings me on to the next idea.Try and teach him a hold command (there is a Percy video on this) so don’t throw the dummy for him but get him to sit in front of you and offer him a ball or dummy, use the command “hold” encourage him too take it when he does just stroke his chest and keep calm, take it back off him and try again. Initially he probably won’t want to hold it for long but just work at it and gradually build it up....it will take time but be patience and persevere. I hope this helps...cheers Nick

He’s turning into a great dog indeed . What whistle are you using on him ?
