Gung Ji Kuen -工字拳 - Choy Li Fut kung fu

This video features the Gung Ji Kuen 工字拳 form of Choy Li Fut kung fu. It is not the same as Gung Jee Fook Fu in the Hung Gar system, and the name itself is derived from the '工' or 'gung' character as the path of the footwork in the form resembles the 工 shape. Gung Ji Kuen is a unique set and I enjoyed the parallels of training the linear parts of the set in the narrow hallways, it just seemed like the perfect setting. Gung Ji Kuen is known and practiced by many Choy Li Fut practitioners around the world, and here you can see the form performed by a young student in King Mui village in China • Choy Li Fut - Kung Fu ... .

That's great!!! I really enjoy this set, it has so many good combinations and techniques. Just know that this is a performance version, and in videos like this I cut and rearrange things, change timing of combinations, and so on. It's just for entertainment, and hopefully motivation to go practice :D

Amen! I be up every night around 2:00 a.m. practicing choy li fut's Tiger form (Fu Ying Kuen) even though it's fun and shorter than choy li fut dragon tiger form (Lung Fu Kuen) that also practice. Hahaha! Training in tiger kung fu is very intense.

It's an interesting form for sure, in some schools it is a beginner/intermediate level form, in SF it was a black fringe requirement until just recently... replaced by Monk's Spade. I originally learned it at a seminar, so maybe that's how you can pick it up too!

There’s no relation other than the name. Similar to “Sup Ji” forms, this set is named for the pattern of footwork as it makes the shape of 工 or “Gung”
