the idle engine hum brings me back to living near a military base that operated many harriers and even though the base was over 3.5 miles away from my house at the time, that hum carried farther than the ear shattering sound of the engine exhaust and was calming at times

Just saw 5 harriers come into Rick Husband International Airport they weren't hot but definitely on the move to train. Also, it seems the military is moving the big helicopter in and out of the local airports which is not unusual I just haven't seen this much activity in awhile.

As far as i know, the american Harriers are equipped with radar. But the british had no radar, only FLIR and electrooptical cameras. Would that mean that a british Harrier could only attack what was within visual range ?
@whatotter90942 жыл бұрын
It couldn't use BVR missiles like amraam, but it was used almost exclusively for close air support so it didn't matter to much. Certainly less versatile though. The sea harrier fulfilled the air combat capability until it was retired as it had a radar

The Brits loved the harrier they just replaced it with newer technology as it was getting a bit old
@truth70802 жыл бұрын
Britain loved it. But due to cut backs and future investment of QE class aircraft carrier and F35s, they got canned early. If I remember rightly, USMC bought out the bulk of remaining GR9 Harriers at a discount

@@owenlloyd4382 McDonnell Douglas didn't redesign and build the AV-8B under license. The UK abandoned the project from 1975-1981 rejoining only after the overwhelming majority of the redesign was finished. The Harrier and Harrier II are completely different aircraft.
