The only person I ever idolised was this Em. As soon as I discovered The Eminem Show (a friend from school had introduced me after their older cousin introduced them) I was hooked. I grew up without a father figure and Em kinda filled that role. I could relate to him will simultaneously learning how to stand up for myself and having the balls to stick up my middle finger. I drifted off him about the time Relapse came out, but music for me was a magical time during that period. I was HOOKED on him. I got ALL his mixtapes, from Shade 45 to Anger Management and everything in between. I listened to Em probably at least 2-3 hours every single day. And then he introduced 50. Who instantly became my 2nd favourite rapper and my journey extended to him and all his albums and mixtapes ( I had them all too, all the G Unit Radio’s.. everything) I’m venting bc I’m high and in my feelings rn but every time I stumble across a vid like this it just sends me down memory lane.

He has truly transformed from one person to another. Look at his life. No father. Mom bringing home different men drinking and drugging…I really don’t see him having a childhood of receiving that caring mama kissing boo-boo or even making him something to eat. Here’s a box of Twinkies make it last for two weeks until I get my check. As she and whatever his name was retreat to the bedroom with bags of alcohol, high as hell, pockets stuffed with the drug cocktail of the night. Lots of pain, hurt, anger, and a bunch of crap you don’t even know what it is. That’s how it was for me. I can’t speak for Em. I can understand how it was possible to get deeper and deeper into his addiction. Self medicating to make the feelings, memories, nightmares just go quiet for a while. Just how I see it may have happened. Now he isn’t really Slim Shady anymore. He’s a man that has gotten clean, recognized his wrong doings made during his addiction and has been making amends sometimes through his music. I have experienced trauma since 8 weeks old up until about 6 yrs ago. I’ve held this shit in all that time… I will be 61 soon. I have finally found a therapist that I trust and we are barely scratching the surface of the beginning and I feel it’s too much. Things start clicking together and it’s overwhelming. I don’t know if I can handle it. I’m going to give it my all for my family. Now Em isn’t really Shady anymore and we can’t expect him to be exactly like Slim… but he will always a bit of Slim Shady in him. But now… he is getting to know himself and I think he will merge the two parts of himself. But I don’t see him going full out hardass gangster style like before. Yeah it’s like a different person now and is…. But at the same time he is both. It’s the same dude… how can you love him and call him the greatest then diss him? Especially when you take into consideration of what he has gone through and what he is going through now. The dude is the best!

It's almost sad that he thought were he was gonna go in his career with the "The death of slim shady" and "This is why ima put the mic down for a little" And he came back with "MY MOM LIKE VALLIUM AND LOTS OF DRUGS" and we was actually gone all that time because of proof. Its almost like when Jay Z said he was gonna "retire" then came back with like 6 more albums. As an artist I think its hard to plan what's gonna happen, it kinda just happens. And you as the artist have no say in the matter
@True38
@True38 2 жыл бұрын
Master P was also going to "retire" but then he made several more albums... Once you're an artist, you're an artist for life. It's all about patterns, and once you're stuck in a certain pattern, it is hard to break it and do something else. This goes especially for addicts, whether it's drugs, alcohol, cigarettes, sex, food etc. That's also why most people never change their jobs or careers and just do the same thing over and over again all their life. Not that it's something wrong with that but I think plenty of people are missing out on what's really out there.

cause its how they thick and how they function, being an artist is more than creating songs, its a certain love/passion u have for sound or language, hence why these people really rarely stop. Its just that the music bussiness around it, is so called created for the "young people" cause they are easier to sell/looks. So they just keep following their passion but in different ways and have the "bad" luck that the camera still follows them around... Its the same like asking an athlete to just stop sporting, after he did nothing but practice sports since their childhood... Its who u are, a poet, ur way of self expressing.... And like everyone has good days, they have their bad days too

I don’t think he was planning on retiring, he was working on music from before curtain call released but his addiction was so bad he wasn’t sure if he could continue, even if he wanted to. It was his sleeping pill addiction combined with proof’s death, leading to his overdose, that stopped his music. You can tell what the addiction did to him physically, his words in features around 06 were extremely slurred and he became obese at one point. Apparently it got to a point where he couldn’t speak a full sentence, let alone rap. He actually had a full album called King Mathers in around 07 he nearly finished around the time of his overdose, it’s on KZbin pretty easy to find. You can tell he’s not mentally all there and seriously struggling with grief and guilt.

Not pointless for those who buy the physicals off the artist websites. Also if the label wants to fulfill an album number contract they make you do one or they put one out themselves that they control and own. Its better if the artist puts it together themself. Then with limited edition tshirt cd box sets and color vinyls its an appeal to the collector crowd.
