Duff's an absolute legend. Such a humble, easy going guy who hardly ever has a bad word to say about anyone. He saw Kurt on the plane days before Cobain's death and his guilt of not trying harder to get Kurt to fully open up fucked with him. He's an ex heroin addict and told Kurt if he (Duff) can get clean, anyone can. Chris was another humble, down to earth guy who was suffering for his art. I was on this dude who just listens to the police/met scanner all night and he posted that the ambulance has been called to the same hotel that Cornell was staying at the night he died after his show. He also said it was an unresponsive male who was the same age and had the same birthday. I was probably one of the first people who realized who it was that died. Obviously there were family and staff and stuff who knew before I found out, but as far as any media reporting it I knew way before them and it literally made my heart drop in my stomach. I had a similar thing happen to me a few years ago when a friend passed away. He had gone missing down a Slovenian gorge on a road trip around Europe. I was at home none the wiser, but at the time I suddenly felt compelled to learn the song "Rain When I Die" by Alice in Chains. I mastered the Riff in a few days. Meanwhile in Slovenia, the area was meant to be hit by a rainstorm around the time he went missing, but the clouds held off for over a week while the searchers did their thing. When they finally found him, the heavens opened in Slovenia. It rained. And it rained at home in England too, right after I got the call to say he was gone. I only found out he was missing the day before that. Id been playing the song for a week... Spooky stuff.

My friend named Matt passed away this year… it wasn’t until afterwards that I learned he had wanted to learn to play guitar… had I known this, I 100% would’ve shown him the ropes. So one night… I just had a prayer-like conversation with him with my guitar in my hands. I talked as if he was right there in the room with me (perhaps he was) I was just showing him chords. And this is an Em, and this is a G, C, etc: etc: and when I got to the A chord. Wow that A chord… I strummed it in a certain way… HEY, that’s how “doesn’t remind me” by audioslave starts!!!! And just like that… I had to learn the song in full. Now whenever I play the song, I think of him. I dedicate it to him. Music is beautiful, powerful magic.

I never have really felt much emotion when a celebrity that I admired passed away. Only because I never knew them personally and they almost don't seem like real people because of the lifestyle they have and how it creates a strange disconnect for me at least that is. I mean it's always a shame when someone passes away, but I remember being pretty upset about Chris dying. I was like wow this guy that I grew up with listening to his music and he was such a genuine man as well. Gone way too soon. The other person that I remember pretty much stopping in my tracks when I heard the news was Kurt Cobains death. That hit close to the old heart. I was 16 at the time and I really liked nirvana and I remember thinking no effing way Kurt, how tf are you going to kill yourself and leave us all here to deal with this bullshit. Same thing with Chris I was thinking bro that's it you are cashing in and leaving us to deal with this circus. Eff me I want out too but I'm not one for suicide so I'm stuck here 😒😄

Let me say, less than usual. My comments end up being like short stories. It’s a problem. But YOUR comment, took the words out of my mouth. Cobain was a shocker, but honestly wasn’t THAT big of a surprise. But no other hit me like Chris. I thought, “how can someone with such talent and such gifts and seemingly so much to live for, do this. Then I looked in the mirror and realized a strange reason why I’m so depressed that I’ve never read or heard any doctors mention. Sometimes it’s the fact of knowing or thinking that it’s hard or impossible to “do better”, even though somehow no matter what, it’s never enough. And when you slowly lose the fight to keep trying, as in, you quit caring, wonder why you are so negative when you might even be legendary for being positive, it seems like pushing the monster boulder up the eternal hill. Insurmountable. Life is a race to find happiness before you decide to quit trying. It’s one thing that’s great to procrastinate. It’s a race.

Creepy only to Duff..who did see Kurt before he was suicided..but not the last to. And now Chris before he too was suicided. More to this than all know. No one wants to know. I did start my career in music biz at 15 around that time. I had drinks with Slash and Duff..went swimming with them and just hung out for a few days..the very true part of this was Axl was way out of touch..reality kind and had 6 huge body guards surrounding his every move..even through the lobby. 2 infront 2 behind him and one each side. He did not want attention or eye contact but I looked where I wanted to and of course who could miss the spectacle. That particular time was in Melbourne. Australia. Unfortunately Soundgarden did not come along. Skid Row did that leg of the tour. But Sebastian Bach was a laugh. Off his nutter and threw up over a balcony after smoking some weed. Lol. But cool guy. But yeah..both Slash and Mckagen were gentlemen sitting around a large round table and ordered more drinks once I'd arrived with Bach and my friend who flew over for the show. It was a great start to my work..and watching 60,000+ faces looking back at you on stage at Calder Park..you realise why these bands could easily have the massive egos some do.
