After owning a used bottom of the barrel ESP bass and beginners Ibanez SR200, the first legit bass i ever bought was a Schecter Model-T in 2013, with passive PJ Seymour Duncan SJB2 & PBJ2 pickups and a beautiful butterscotch yellow body. The Telecaster-bass design queues were just so good looking. I still own it to this day, albeit with a replacement P-bass style neck after the original neck was damaged beyond repair in an incident of my own making... It is still one of the smoothest playing and richest sounding instruments i own and it is so well built and durable. I have many times considered selling it off to help pay off debts or to help cover large family expenses, but at the end of the day i know for a fact that I would regret it so much and kick myself for eternity. Schecter were some of the best built affordable instruments around for a long time. I want to say i paid 629$ for it on eBay back in 2013 and even 6 years ago, that was a pretty awesome price for a quality instrument.

My main reason for watching this is to gather some knowledge on who makes or who Schecter sources their pickups from, since older models of many of their basses have EMG's and now don't. I was so happy to hear that you believe they are just rebranded EMG's which I honestly suspected. It's crazy there is literally very little info on this topic online. Would totally make no sense in swapping these out for EMG's at that point. Which would save me time and money. I love my Schecter Damian Elite-4 that came with EMG mmhz's. Scored that baby used for 350 a few months back and it's a model they don't even offer anymore. Gig with it often

Awesome! I actually have the 4-string version of this exact bass! Would you consider doing a "bass tone for noobs" video, potentially using this bass? As a relatively new bass player (I've played guitar for almost 10 years but I just picked up bass within the last year), I still struggle with getting the right bass tone for the job, while on a budget. (how to use the knobs on the bass, do I need a compressor or other effects, how to eq my amp, whether to amp or DI, etc.) I love the way your bass sounds in this video, it sounds like you have a real fat groove going on. I'd love to be able to sound more like that. Thank you for the awesome video!

I got this Bass, first week of January.. I love Schecter, Swapped from Ibanez SR 5's in 04, to the Custom Stilleto 5. I fell in love with it. Even though I have owned a Studio 5,(which I Loved) Hell Razor 5, (which i Hated) , my Custom 5 , Always was #1... Until I got the Stealth 5..the High output Schecter PBass & MM Pups with Schecter Preamp, Are So Much Hoytter... It Stands Up and Stands Out, my Band agreeing its the Best Bass Sound they have heard. The Preamp and Pups are Schecter , not EMG. If you had your Studio to compare the Output , you wouldnt Believe it.( EMGs are a More Compressed tone, the Schecter pups more Natural and Several db louder) The Stealth Pups Are High Output Passive Pups and that along with their Preamp, allowed me to adjust my Amps Gain, Down , and a little EQ tweaking to get the Right Calrity and Tone , with no Distortion unless I want it. .if you Dig in, it will bark. 💪 Maybe play with your Pup Height, as lowering them will reduce Volume/Distortion/ and make it tighter if you play hard., And a Big Note, the Volume on this Bass , especially on this Bass , needs to Be all the Way up. Its at the last 1/4 in increments that it really Comes Alive. It's only Good 4 turning all the way down , and all the Way up. Glad to see you Reviewing it Bru! I sub'd so will be Checking out your Channel. 💯⚡🖤🤠⚡ Dio Vindice

I got a Stealth 5 Jan 2019 as a Back up for my #1 Custom 5... It became my #1..the High output Passive Pups blow the passive Emgs 45's on my Custom and Studio out of the Water..not just in Volume, but Tone and Clarity ... Also the P/MM config is just Hands down better than the 2 Bucks on the Custom and Studios..The Emgs are to Voiced/colored, and trust Me Brother playing them A/B and recording, through amp or Pa etc...the Stealth Sounds So Much better than the Studio and Custom.. I just got my Second Stealth 5 , not for back up, but to rotate as to keep my Sound/Tone Consistent..i use DR Black Beautys..love them...they are Suprisingly BRIGHT, so you have piano Clarity, th Nickel winding adds depth, and the Soft Core and coating gives a Upright Sound .. Tale a Baby Grand doubled with a Full sized Double Bass with Catgut and there you go... So, I'm about to put a coil split on both... I would Much appreciate if you decided to add one to yours as it would really help this old country boy out! Preciate what your vids ..

I picked one up today (4 strings though) at guitar center while trading out a couple of basses I can't play anymore I have carpal tunnel in my left hand which is causing weakness and numbness on the left side of that hand, so basically my pinky and ring finger, which made playing my Thunderbird difficult, and it's starting to get difficult to play my jazz basses as well So I decided to give this Schecter a shot, and my God the difference is astounding It sits better than my jazzes or the t-bird when I'm playing standing so I don't have to reach out quite so far with my fretting hand , the neck is slimmer so I'm not having to stretch quite so much to get good leverage with the weakened fingers, it's nice and light, and it just sounds great The clarity on the E string just blows my other instruments out of the water. Very satisfied with my trade in, even if I am gonna miss that thunderbird

Great review and tasty playing. Looks like an awesome bass for the price point. Couple of points that may be of interest - A Musicman pickup (authentically) needs to be located with the forward pole piece under a high G harmonic and rear (bridge) pole piece under a high C harmonic on the G string. A Precision Bass needs a high D harmonic on the G string exactly at the dividing line between the split pickups. Even a small deviation either side of Leo Fender's original pickup placements will alter the tone for better or worse depending on taste! This is useful when installing pickups on short and extra long scale basses where copying physical measurements eg from the bridge will no longer apply. Can't tell purely from this video if the split pickup is positioned exactly as on a P bass or further forward for a beefier tone. Love your channel Shame we're not allowed guns in the UK!
@GunsandGuitars5 жыл бұрын
Good info! I’d say the p pickup is close to the original position, if not a tad further forward. The musicman pickup is definitely closer to the bridge than a traditional mm. But this is pretty standard for a p+mm setup. It’s one of my favorite pickup combinations for bass. Maybe my most favorite.

Oh, what strings were you using on this vid? Be well.
@GunsandGuitars5 жыл бұрын
Thanks for serving in your church! That’s awesome man! The strings were the ones that come with it from the factory, Ernie ball I believe. I prefer fender strings myself, I almost slapped a set on there for this video, but decided I liked the tone just fine with the factory strings!

Hi Dan , can't find it on the specs, could you please tell me what the string spacing is? Narrow like a Music Man 5 or wide ? Thanks

The best advice to give beginning musicians would be, NEVER, EVER, trade away or sell your stuff. There’s always a good reason, but I don’t care how bad, cheap, or how much you were jonesing for that next something special, you will sadly regret letting go every guitar, bass, amp, pedal, etc. you ever owned. I still miss my 1st guitar, a Montgomery Wards rebranded Harmony Stella 3/4 acoustic for which I paid $16 for and sold for $5.

Been playing a Schecter Studio 5 for years. It is indeed a great bass, though sometimes I don't think I would mind some different pickups on it. If I can ever afford to buy another bass, it'll probably be a Lakland 55-02, though I do like this Schecter Stiletto Studio.....
@GunsandGuitars5 жыл бұрын
When my Yamaha BB died, I came really close to buying a Lakland! I ultimately chose the studio 5 mostly because of my philosophy, the lakland spunded a little better, but was double the price. At double the price it should sound twice as good. So I when with the studio 5. Sounds like we have similar tastes!

I am thinking about making the jump to Schecter. I have a CV Squier P Bass right now and love it, but it has sentimental value and want another quality gig rig. I had an Aerodyne and liked it a lot but had to sell to make ends meet. Wanting to buy something a little higher end and the JB-4 in Seafoam green and maple fretboard is calling me hard

I bought one of these, nice piece of an instrument, although fine tuning the intonation can be a bit tricky on this one.

Yeah, I'm not a fan of that bridge set up at all. Honestly that's one of the things holding me back from pulling the trigger on this. I really wish the Stiletto Extreme had the same pick up set up. Because what holds me back on snaggin a Black Cherry Stiletto Extreme is that it's not P pickups. Also prefer the awesome inlays on the Extreme versus the basic dots on the stealth. Wish the 2 could just be combined.

Have you adjusted the S-TEK bridge on this bass? Is it hard? Mine is in the mail and I've never adjusted a bridge like the S-TEK.

Mine came perfectly setup out of the box, the thought of adjusting the bridge actually never crossed my mind lol. I’ll have to take a closer look at it.

Hey dan, do you think you could do a review of the ESP LTD AP-204? it's very similar to this bass, it's active, has a more conventional PJ Style, and is about 100 bucks less.
