@@LowEndLobster you can set some of the octaved 8 basses up where you can adjust the individual strings in the pairs for your best playability; there is a LOT of talk about pairing string sizes and how the playing and tone is effected by how you set up your string pairs on progressive discussions on both 12 guitar and 8 string bass forums (most common octaved platforms, there's less common octaved arrangements, but they're only partial, like 8 and 10 string guitars, commonly seen configured in several popular Taylor acoustics and the BC Rich Rich Bich, respectively), personally, once I had an octaved bass (why not a 10 string, go higher on the 5th string and double it - push the register upward at first for playability till we understand string pairs well enough to start throwing low pairs made of transatlantic cables on there lol) I would be playing with tunings to see if I could up the sitar/sympathetic tone game and try to generate beat frequencies between string pairs so I get some heterodyne lovin before even laying a finger to fret. I'm that guy that needs 5 of these because they'd all be set up different and if I had another musical idea bout 8 string bass, I'd need to buy another two because ideas to me are like beers, it's never just one lol

Lobster, I am a geeked out bass player who appreciates your Vids! Esoteric is the word of the day. Though I am about one bass away from being in double digits and have most everything, I don’t have an 8 string! Not sure if I need one b/c an octave pedal seems more suitable. But hey, once I get to 15 basses I am sure I will acquire. On a side note, I commented on your recent tele ‘51 style frankenbass video that I am in the market for but need to hold off -because I stumbled on a Craigslist deal that I could not pass up! Coincidentally, the bass I bought is a 6 string Schecter Stilletto Studio bass just like your 8 string. Totally different vibe but a beauty, and only $300 with a bunch of perks the seller through in-hard case, boss effect pedal, leather strap and cables so a “no brainer” for someone wanting to dabble w a 6 er without dropping serious coin! ...but... I still have to have a’51 style P!!!!

@@LowEndLobster I'm actually still rounding up feelers on that the Apocalypse you showed. Ever since I got a legit green guitar that everyone kept thinking was black, I've been on a kick about not just ash (but it's usually ash) but guitars that have these moss-ish colored greens that can appear even darker or more monochoromatic in color until you light them up and they just ooze the darkness - I mean, I've never seen darkness flash off a tiger eye finish until that green one ('92 Starfield Altair SJ Custom, Fujigen built, it's twin that has a "cherry" finish looks like it was literally dipped in fresh blood, which also throws some darkness in the light but it seems to drip a little instead of ooze a lot when it gets lit up)...anyhow. Slate-ish colors, STONE GREEN I guess? Moss colors. Mold colors (oddly enough look really great on a guitar but hella repugnant on bread)..whatever the gray/green/black precious stones are? I can't really put a finger on it but again, it's like trying to explain why you like that 8 string bass to someone who can hear but has never heard music. I still want to get a slab of cheap walnut to roast and finish to see what happens. If I leave a case open at least once cat will try to crash in it. I don't care - if you have any sort of air movement around, cat hair is not the same thing as a dusty environment with particulates that electronics to not like. And if the cat hair was the problem, it's easy to debug with eyeballs and a vacuum cleaner. :-) It brings me comfort that they come in with me when I am playing and sit on my things and just chill. It means that they feel safe and comfortable and that makes me feel like out of all the other stuff I abjectly fuck up for everyone around me, at least I can do that one thing and make a cat feel safe. Bleh. I know why a caged bird sings, but more importantly I understand why many DON'T. Keep singing even when you don't feel like it because at least people will hear you, so you are seen and if you can be seen, then you are real.

This was a very helpful video to convince me I do *not* need this bass. I had been considering it for a while, along with a Squier VI, which I have also been dissuaded from. As far as this bass goes, I love Schecter, but it just seems like it would be hard to play (dampening the strings effectively and keeping steady time while also consistently plucking both strings in an octave pair seem especially difficult) and of even more limited use than I initially assumed. (Given my strange propensity for recording mashups involving songs from Pearl Jam’s first album, maybe. But it’s not worth buying just for that!)
@room34 Жыл бұрын
I just had to follow up on this with some thoughts about this bass's "normal" sibling, the Schecter Stiletto Studio 4. I ended up buying one not long after I posted this comment, and while I initially liked it (its feel, playability and tone are excellent), there were three absolute dealbreakers for me (two of which were directly related to each other). First, there was bad wiring on the pickup selector, causing it to short out if you turned it all the way to one pickup or the other. That could've been fixed, but there's also a really bad design flaw on the Stiletto Studio: it has no active/passive switch, and the battery compartment is terrible. It has a screw-on plate, and the batteries are stacked on top of each other, packed into an extremely tiny cavity making them impossible to get out without a tool of some kind, and fairly difficult even *with* a tool. (I had to use a computer "spudger".) If a bass is *only* active, and the batteries are nearly impossible to get out, how can you possibly trust playing it on a gig? Is that why it has "Studio" in the name? Anyway, I ended up returning that bass to Sweetwater and buying a Fender American Ultra Jazz Bass instead. The Jazz isn't perfect either but it definitely does not have the issues the Schecter did.

I actually want to hear this bass with an octave pedal so bad
@LowEndLobster4 жыл бұрын
That would be sick.... just a wall of sound ahahaha. I should snag one and do some pedal videos.

Does have a a good sound. I like EMG for certain applications and this is definitely one of them. Get over there played with the flatpick so I was impressed at how clean everything sounded with just fingers. These Really shine when you start playing Hard Rock with a little distortion and maybe a touch of Reverb. Going to say your kitty has the markings of a Maine Coon but not the size I was curious what kind of cat😢 it is

what if you put this thru an OC-2? 🧐

I don't think the human race is equipped to handle such a sound ;P

@@LowEndLobster you can consider the suggestion it just seems fitting of the funny theme of the channel haha! And thank YOU for making great videos always :)

@@hetul784 Believe me, it's considered :). That's a very fun idea and I like it a lot, especially considering the little bit of flack I got for the "cat" bass review (acinonyx) haha. Great idea my friend! You may see a cat review in the near future.

@@LowEndLobster haha! Yay! Also IDK why people decided to criticize a review I saw the comments too and it didn't make sense because alot of stuff said in a review are of course personal opinion not to mention, you did say a few times "in my opinions" soooo yeah whatever but don't let them get to you

Good work as always. You and I have so many similar basses despite my collection being what I thought was eclectic! I have the Spector Legend 8. Here's a video of me playing the classic 'Jeremy' with my band 'Pearl Jamm': kzbin.info/www/bejne/gpzPl4WeqNmjhLc

I love 8s! I have a Schecter Riot 8, and wondered if the Stiletto was any better. Still wondering, of course. I found the 100% mids to be be one of the most interesting and useful sounds. If you have the chance to do a comparison of this 8 with any others, it would be nice. So few direct comparisons of 8-strings out there. My cat is here in my office keeping me company too!
