These pedals are a great solution for people who want the tone of several different expensive amps but don't have the budget to purchase them. It's also a good solution for low volume home recording, or venues that don't want a lot of stage noise (read: CHURCH lol).

If you're looking for a good amp on a budget, I would recommend either a Peavey tube amp or a VHT Special 6/Special 6 Ultra. I have a Peavey Valveking 112 and while the distortion channel is a bit muddy and pretty fuzzy (which can be cleaned up with something like a Tube Screamer or a comp pedal), it has a very nice clean tone and it can get LOUD.

A little late, but if you need something like this with a lot more flexibility, take a look at the Mooer Radar. It has amp sims, cab sims, and programmable eq, plus you can upload a custom ER if you have an amp you just love. It also works well with acoustic and bass guitars. Pricewise, it's about equivalent to 2 of these pedals.

@TaprootGft 5 жыл бұрын
So curious, maybe its negligible, but why did you switch guitars when you switched to the 2nd padel? Wouldn't it be better to show the same guitar/pickups through each pedal to show how much the pedal is doing vs settings on the guitar and/or different pups?

So they're basically a cheap version of the Mooer preamps. They work the same exact way. The Mooer ones just offer more amps and are a little bit more pricewise. I started using the Mooer brown sound into their radar pedal and into a Scarlett interface about 3 months ago and havent found a reason to plug into a real amp at home since.

@@GunsandGuitars It's actually pretty cool... You can have an entire amp (or more than one) on a pedal board. Throw in a baby bomb or a EHX 44 magnum and you don't ever really need a traditional amp again. Plus if you want to switch your "amp" out or add another one... It only costs as much as the pedal. Right now my signal chain is as follows: Monoprice tuner pedal -> EHX Silencer -> Maxon OD808 -> Mooer Brown Sound -> Mooer Radar -> Scarlett Solo The monoprice pedal is a great, cheap tuner pedal option at ~$20. The silencer is a great "budget" noise gate at less then $60. And it has an efx loop. The OD808 I paid about $40 after it went on sale and used a gift card I got. The Brown Sound I found on eBay for $72. The Radar I got used but in pristine condition for $125. You can then plug into the efx return on an amp or plug into one of those pedal amps and put that into a cab (like the Harley Benton G112 Vintage available at Thomann. A Celestion V30 speaker cab for less than $200!) When i started guitar 20+ yrars ago we never had options like this. It's a golden time to play music on a budget.

I had the green one for a while, and it does sound good. Also has reverb and the settings are saved, and descent cab sim... And you can put pedal in front of it like you would with an amp and it reacts similarly... I mean what else can you ask for from a tiny pedal)

Great pedals...Except I would find the flashing LED annoying. By the way, my favourite budget pedals I use all the time are the Caline CP12 Pure Sky a “Timmy clone”and the Caline CP18 Orange Burst “Xotic BB” clone I swap out the blue LEDs for softer vintage red ones and in the CP18, I swap out the input cap for a 0.1uF and hand select a 1N4148 and 1N914 with different forward voltage drops to give it a kick in the even harmonics. I use these pedals to overdrive tube amps already on the way to breakup, rather than into a clean amp.

Sounds great! I’d love to learn more about those mods, looks like I’ve got some googling to do!
@MidlifeRenaissanceMan
@MidlifeRenaissanceMan 6 жыл бұрын
Guns and Guitars I figured them out myself. The LED change is easy. I hate those bright blue lights. Red is always better for low light, and the soft diffused compared to those stupidly bright ones tend not to blind you. The cap change to 0.1uF from the 0.047 lowers the bottom end down another octave before roll off The diodes are a subtle change, but I like the CP18 better with those mods The CP18 I use in the guitar effects chain. The CP12 is great in the effects loop to kick extra volume against a second guitar for lead work, or I run it as a soft overdrive when I’m the only guitarist. The pedals I found on eBay. They sell for around $35-50 aussie with the CP12 around $10 more than the CP18 Build is OK, not great, but OK Love your work. Keep it up.

Unless you absolutely need the small form factor for some reason, I would recommend the Zoom g1on over either one of these pedals. For less money you would get more amp and cab sims (and they sound great to boot), more effects, the ability to create and store patches as a preset, a built-in looper complete with an assortment of drum beats that actually sound pretty good, and a built-in tuner. Or for just a few dollars more you could get the g1xon that also includes a built-in expression pedal. I currently use that pedal ran into the auxiliary input of my bluetooth speaker as a compact travel rig so I can practice when I'm staying in hotel rooms. The built-in phrase looper and drum beats make it an invaluable practice tool. I personally don't need all of the different amp and cab sims that are included with it, but to me it makes it that much more likely that a given user will be able to create the tones that they are looking for. Some people like to gripe about the mostly plastic construction, but if you look at the numerous reviews on the web I don't see too many people complaining about failures. I mostly see people raving about how much these pedals have to offer and how well they do it for so little money. Despite the mostly plastic construction they actually feel quite solid and I'm not at all worried about any problems arising from this aspect of the design. To me this design choice is simply how they are able to offer so much for so little money. I was actually able to get the g1xon on the used market for $55 and I couldn't be more happy with it.

My only complaint is the foot switch on all of them but I wanna say the "surge rotar" reverb make a loud pop when engaged. You should review some caline pedals honestly. They're clones like most of the chinese pedals, but they are a little more unique in what they clone. Like the pure sky for example is a simplified timmy clone I'm fairly sure. But... they... do? Maybe not to you, I guess. That's alright. But the grand majority of players won't benefit that much that's more expensive than this. Besides, it puts more tools in the hands of developing musicians, besides, I defy you to listen to one of these full mixed in a song and then another more expensive peddle on another track. I'll take the Pepsi challenge and say that you won't be able to reliably pick the more expensive pedal 60% of the time.

Ethan hi, sorry to butt in like this but i'd like to share something here. Try to keep in mind that the guitar tone in a mix is completely irrelevant to what would make you play the guitar when you hear it. A real amp is not meant to sound anywhere close to what you hear through youtube reviews. And modelers (as with emulated pedals) try to recreate the recorded sound of an amp in a full range output, but that is not the sound of the amp in the room. So yeah, in a mix a modeler and a tube amp have no real difference. But when you are in front of the speaker, getting your inspiration and feel from the speaker's movement, the modeler is way different to a tube amp.
