I've been digging the whole Retro-Future/Synthwave/etc. genre since discovering it a year ago, but I'll admit that after I've spent time listening to all the various artists out there, it tends to get rather samey and uninspiring. Often I find myself thinking, "Nice, another John Hughes teen movie track," or "Cool, another saxy summer club track," or "Sweet, another retro gaming recreation." The genre is almost always fun and evocative of the nostalgic 80's mood that I'm looking for when I search for this music, but rarely is it ever memorable, powerful, or artistic. GUNSHIP changed all that for me. The music still hits all the right nostalgic notes, but it never feels forgettable or as if it's just part of some background. Each song is unique and emotive, a self-contained work that maintains the aesthetic of the music it's referencing, but still having a brand new sound all its own. I can instantly tell a new GUNSHIP song from one of any other artist, many of whom sound more or less interchangeable to me. Perhaps my favorite thing about GUNSHIP, though, are the videos. I'm consistently amazed by the collaborative work done for these music video productions. They're all as unique as GUNSHIP'S songs, and they perfectly capture the essence of the music. You can tell that these videos are the result of real people expressing their creative visions the way they want to, rather than the result of some committee of suits' vision of the most marketable product. I had no idea what _Ready Player One_ was before seeing this video, but it nonetheless managed to evoke genuine emotion in me. The beautiful pixel style combined with the mesmerizing music was enough to make me care about Art3mis and Parzival for five minutes and actually feel choked up by the end. This video is more than just a collection of nostalgic tropes. It's a work of art. I think I may have to read the book now. Bravo, GUNSHIP. I'll be eagerly awaiting every new release!

Perhaps you should check out the 80's era bands that helped lay the foundation for this kind of music, you'll probably find some gems that you love if you haven't. A few suggestions for you: Front 242 (Tragedy for you, Sacrifice, Headhunter, Rhythm of time) Tangerine Dream (Love on a Real Train, Loved by the Sun, Force Majeure) Fad Gadget (Collapsing new people, Ricky's Hand) The Psychedelic Furs (Ghost in You, Love My Way, Pretty in Pink) New Order (Elegia, Blue Monday)

3 years ago I had a friend who was my support in real life. We lived far apart, so we spent almost all our free time playing and talking about everything and nothing I have never been a talkative person, but I felt completely different with her. I was like a withered plant, which she decided to water and narture. I have never lived a particularly happy life. I wanted to raise money and go abroad, find a job and look for a better life. I decided to fly to the country where she lived. Unfortunately, a series of unfortunate events meant that we stopped staying in touch with each other. In addition, in the new country I had a lot of problems, and after returning to my home country I found out that I have cancer. I was already tired of fighting for anything, I decided not to take any treatment. All I can do now is wait for my story to end. However, this song reminds me of the good times I once spent with the person I loved. Those who have read this, I wish you that this song would give you relief and a feeling of good times as well as me. May you have a happy life

I mean this with much sincerity, your music is one of the only things left online that gives me a moment of feeling. Growing up in the 80s, ignorance in youth, the ability to do "anything" without the ideas of "adult" responsibilities. The joy and wonder in new technologies and ideas in an environment that wasn't over crowded with hucksters and multiple rabbit holes of despair. Every song by you gives me a moment of reflection of the days of wandering the woods, pillow forts, late night scary movies, and friends that no longer walk this world. My heart has become cold, empty due to so much of what this world is now, and yet, your music, fills it with a small amount of weight, it gives pause to a lump in my throat and a want to be back in those moments that gave joy and hope....only to turn take the headphones off, and step back into realty. Your videos are echoes and ideas of what seemed like a time worth fighting for, each beat a heavy footstep of the hero or in some cases the anti-hero, trying to right what went wrong. You have found the "key" notes that gave weight to "the 80s" I personally thank you for the tears of remembrance your music brings, watching the sun set while sitting on the green electric utility box, with the bikes of friends surrounding the ground.

I am absolutely obsessed with this song, I can't even count how many times I've listened to it, I had to go buy that damn book to try and get this out of my system lol seriously I FREAKING LOVE THIS SONG!!!!

When I was younger the boy I liked introduced me to Gunship. Even though those times are now in the past, I must admit that whenever thoughts of him resurface, I find solace in revisiting their songs. It brings a sense of comfort amidst the memories. Looking back, I wish I could have been a more improved version of myself during that time, and I also wished the same from him. Regardless of everything my sincere wish is for his happiness, no matter where he may be in the world.

Not that the movie was bad, but that was a truer rendition of the book, well played mate!

DJ Jaylex “Not at all”? It hit a lot of the same beats as the book, saying “Not at all” isn’t a fair thing to say, like saying a remix is “Not at all” like the song it samples, that’s simply not true.

To be honest, I am surprised that the movie we got was as good as it was. To make the story as mass marketable as they could (movies are made for money after all) they had to dumb down the puzzles by orders of magnitude.
@pjc3316 Жыл бұрын
@@CoryBlissitte Spielberg had to change a lot of the movie due to copyright issues.
@CoryBlissitte Жыл бұрын
@@pjc3316 I imagine it was a lot more to do with the complexity of the puzzles which wouldn't translate to the screen well. Consider that the puzzles/challenges were far more than the the ones depicted in the movie. Finding the limerick, understanding it, finding the tomb, beating Acererak, understanding the key clue and finding a copy of Daggorath to play, running through Wargames. That is only for the first gate. Contrast that with the movie where it is a race that is effectively advertised as the way to the first gate and the only puzzle is figuring out how to beat it. Doing the books puzzles would have been untenable in the movie. It would have made for either some very quick but unexplained action (and relatively few people are familiar enough with D&D, Joust, Daggorath, AND Wargames to not need at least some explanation). While some copywrite issues were likely a part of it, I have to imagine that they were not the primary cause of the changes. Complexity. Books are allowed to be far more complex than movies.

Anyone remember a time in their lives which was so great and when something reminds you of that time it’s great but also fills you with a hopeless sadness because you know that time has past and can never be relived, that’s how I feel about the 80’s
