I live about an hour + south from San Saba, nice little town, pretty cool it’s in a Gunsmoke episode. Another great episode, thanks for posting the program. I’m really getting hooked on old radio shows, mysteries, SciFi, horror, Westerns. Listening, it shows the lie that some have that these programs were simplistic and formulaic even childish. They’re tight, well written stories and unlike today doesn’t mistake the term adult for meaning explicitly sexual or overly violent. Again thank you for the change of pace.

Great episode. This is one of the best OTR of the era. William Conrad was a great actor. Perfect voice for Matt. It's great they used the same voice actor for supported roles.

Dodge City, KS., is a hell of a long way from the Cimarron River in OK. Doesn't seem likely that they could made the trip in 5 days as mentioned in this episode. Just sayin'.

Actually, it would be a two day trip. Go look on a map!

@@reyandy4851 I did on Google maps ... if they made 20 miles a day .. a good pace back then, it'd take them some time.

That area is flat! You can cover more than 20 miles per day on horseback or wagon.

Nevertheless, I understand your point!

@Jim Grigsby Well, I looked up the approximate positions on Google maps & used their measuring device. Seemed improbable, given the conditions of the day. Of course, I didn't have the EXACT GPS coordinates of their starting point and crossing point on the Cimarron River (Ark. river tributary) so its tough to get a valid estimate. "Jayhawkers" is a great episode, and the banter between Ken Curtis (later Festus) & Chester was good, as was the sad closing scene with Matt helping out Jack Elam with the burial.
