This episode is an example of why I enjoy Gunsmoke, most of the endings aren't as cut and dried as the listener is led to believe.

Good one! Whenever Doc talks, I get this powerful hankering to get a Haircut, this Doc must have been old Floyds Grandfather and the family left Dodge sometime and Moved to Mayberry!! Andy, Gomer, {till He joined the Corps) Otis , Howard Sprague and everybody got lots of Haircuts from old Floyd!

Another excellent episode., with a rare example of Chester making more sense than Marshall Dillon. As Chester suggests, Dillon and he should have gone after the miscreant with shotguns. The concept of law enforcement is to achieve the mission, not to restrict your tactics to those of the criminal. 14 Apr 2024

Would Chester’s family be referred to as the Proudfoots, or the Proudfeet?
@garyfrancis61934 жыл бұрын
Proudfoot family. Unless it’s possessive as in Proudfoot’s house. This possessive adjective can be used as a nominative adjective as “I was at the Proudfoot’s last night.” It’s implied you’re talking about their house. If you are talking about a family member you can say “ He’s a Proudfoot.” If more than one family member “My ancestors were Proudfoots.” Or you were just joking.

I wonder what would happen if Ken Creed met up with Dan Grat? Actually a real western Marshal would come to a confrontation at least with his gun out, if not with a shotgun, surrounded by deputies. It's his job to make sure the law wins, not to try to win fast-draw contests. That's a Hollywood invention. And John Dehner plays both the first victim and the guy who gets Creed in the end.

Interesting show title. No horse? Anyone guess the meaning?
@cemeteryabcs6346 Жыл бұрын
The episode talks about it. There was never a horse that couldn’t be rode and never a man that couldn’t be thrown. It’s like the unstoppable force meeting the immovable object.

@@cemeteryabcs6346 I'd been expecting the episode to be some sort of bunco case. Instead, I got a He-Who-Lives-By-The-Sword-Dies-By-The-Sword story.

Great one as usual but the script ending was written and had us thinking that Creed and Dillon would shoot it out and that the ending would end with Creed outdrawing Dillon by a split second..but missing by smidgen and Dillon striking Creed with his accuracy..thereby Dillon would have won…..but they chose to misdirect us and have someone shoot Creed in the back…which I think for Creed would have not happened ….as he’s cognizant about people trying that.

Shows even he can be distracted, and vulnerable to the unexpected. The mistake, in this case, of an arrogant man. Even the best of us is imperfect and subject to ordinary human error. He was expecting a "real" gunman, not some nitwit who was usually drunk and insignificant
