Tem: worried about screamers Also Tem: "hey look a chainsaw, let's go nuts with it!"

In his defense, he was using it on the run, more or less. It might have been better to pick a direction and skip trees on the way "out" in order to pick them back up on the return leg of such a trip - spreading the heat out even further in space and time - but the video did seem to indicate that he avoided screamers for the most part.

To light out large areas i use the offroad light mod on minibikes and just place those around. ;) Its bright and can be seen from much further then the spotlights. The cop sighting is complex but no mystery. In your design they just can see you through your holed shapes. Also wedge tips are dangerous or if you place blocks just corner to corner. You can test the sightline by trying to repair something through those connected corners, also the wedge tips are somewhat "transparent" at their tips. So there's no need to replace those wedged bottoms if you just rework the Z's pathway. Nice series btw, so much entertaining. 👍 Edit: Just tested a bit around. Plates, Cube 1/2 and the 4 narrow wedges are all not cop safe. Cube 3/4. Cube 1/2 centered, Plate centered (also off centered), wedge 60 (tip and bottom) and cube corner on corner are cop safe. Also closed wood hatches are safe, but not when opened as barrier. Seems a bit chaotic but once tested you can rely on it. 😄

When I do intelligence builds, I set a junk turret down above me at the mine entrance. It wouldn't do as much damage for you, since you're not specced into it, but it should be enough to clean up screamers pretty nicely, with no effort on your part, before they can see you. I normally put a wood block roof on top of a mine, which keeps things from just falling in. With your style of mine, it might not quite work the same. Even if it doesn't totally work with an open roof mine, it should only help, unless there were a wandering demo who chanced across the mine and then got triggered by the junk turret, and then fell in.

regarding the cop spit - TFP added a wonderful new bug in A21 where cops and other spitters (for instance in DF) will still "see" you and spit at you through a single block. It takes 2 full blocks in order to block their LoS, at least most of the time... in DF it's a much bigger issue because there's lots more spitters, so bases have needed to become much more chonky to compensate...

You could just put a pole or something equally small beside the doorways so that they still provide support to the blocks above, but instead of getting piled up at the choke point they just push each other down into the room to cycle back through. Course you are gonna wanna make those double plates you've got in that wall into full blocks. If there are any blocks that aren't full between you and the cop they will still see you, even if one of the layers is a full block. If you want to mine unmolested cap your entrance leave one open block filled by your ladder with a junk turret pointed at it. The screamer will of course want to use the easy way down, and path right into your junk turret. There is still an issue if you don't have your skill high enough to keep it active while you are down the pit. The spit "travels through" b/c it does AOE damage. Once the spit is stopped everything within a block/block n a half takes damage. Real physics no werk here.
@ancalagonyt7 ай бұрын
This is basically my mining strategy when I do intelligence builds. I haven't done it when not specced into junk turrets (which makes them do incredible damage and they'll wipe out whole wandering hordes while you're down there), but even with no bonuses I can't see it having much trouble with killing one screamer. The only differences in how I do it are: putting a hatch on top of the ladder (doesn't stop them for long, but it gives you time to run to your ladder when you hear them), putting a tower of two regular wood blocks near the mine (helps when trying to visually find the mine when returning to it), and starting the mine by digging straight down until you run into rock. That last one seems to help avoid generating screamers in the first place, if you get down far enough.

when the heat counter hits 100% is it a 100% chance to get a screamer? Or less? Might I suggest an automated base? I believe tripwires are possible in 7DTD, so how about powered doors that will activate when the zombies hit a tripwire? The doors will drop them into the previous section and start the loop anew. Meanwhile, you can have traps whittling them down while you pick them off. You can even have your workstations set up where they will never hit, above or below the base, and they can be running constantly to draw in screamers and screamer hordes for your traps to grind up. You get experience from traps, so it's a semi-automated farm. If you are going to get such massive hordes, it would help. Now, if only zombies left behind a loot bag upon death containing rotten flesh, cloth and bones with whatever assorted goods fits the zombie type. Personally, I think Demo-zombies should leave gunpowder behind while soldier zombies should have armor parts or assorted gear.

Adding a comment to add to your numbers. Maybe your base-repair blocks are going from one corner coordinate to the opposite corner. It might be an important decision; if updating the block at a coordinate is cheap but querying the block damage at a coordinate is expensive (computationally), then the dev did their best to ameliorate the lag issues caused by their mod.

I think part of the problem with cop spit is that it has 'splash' damage, and that splash is horizontal, so when it hits a block it damages the adjacent blocks too. So when it hits that glass between the forge and where the spit comes from, it damages the glass and the forge? I could be wrong...

Also, the cop spit typically splashes on the X and Z planes I believe. So I think the radius of the splash is passing through your barriers behind you which is how they are damaging your forges. I think your base design is awesome, albeit, a little fragile. Your base is cool, but it feels like you are ignoring your own advice from past base designs with it as well. You haven't doubled up the bridge which zombies cross. You aren't doubling up on your walls to have two layers of protection. The back corner that was carved out started with locations where you only had one layer (at the Y-axis + X/Z-axis filling it. Normally when you double up on walls, you were using shapes that cover the center of the cube rather than its edges. It feels weird that Cops are not only able to see through ramps now, but are also able to spit through them. Is that a recent change to the game? (I put 600 hours into the game over the course of one year, so I am currently taking a break from it.) Do full plates stop cops from seeing you/spitting at you? If so, then maybe just line the back wall double plates with normal plates. You could try also adding that auto drill mod you showed off at the beginning of A21. I don't think it is too farfetched to think that an individual is capable of MacGyvering a resources collecting drill, since, you are able to not only build flying drones, but your own helicopter (gyrocopter) as well.
