Requests: Zebrahead or Incubus. Zebrahead had success with being on the soundtrack to Tony Hawk’s PlayStation and Xbox games and being on the soundtrack to Adam Sandler’s “Little Nicky”. After their frontman Justin left they just didn’t sound the same. Incubus started out as a funk metal band with insane musicianship for their age. Their music came out around the same time as nu-metal peaked in popularity. Then they fired their bass player and their musical style completely changed to be pop-rock crap. There could be an interesting story there. Either way, keep up the videos!

As a person with Aspergers I can definitely see how touring would be stressful for him. He was overwhelmed with social anxiety and probably even a little depressed. But due to the public’s unfamiliarity with Aspergers and lack of understanding of it he was probably pretty misunderstood by many. Are there any bands in Australia that label themselves "Grunge"?. Don't get me wrong, there were some awesome aussie bands I listened to in the mid to late 90's that had the Grunge sound (By that, I mean the Sludge rock type thing. Nirvana, Mudhoney ect). But back then "Grunge" was kind of relegated to the "Seattle" Bands of the time. And even then, it was kind of looked at skepticism if you were calling yourself "Grunge". That being said, I couldn't really care what "genre" bands find a correlation to. To be honest, in 2021, if some came out and said "Listen to this band. They're a great Grunge band", at least there would be a more defining ideation in my head that would make me check it out. Definitely less broad than "Alternative". And the bands you mentioned are bloody good, too. You got good taste...

I started listening to them right in 2002, highly evolved is one of my all times favorite albums, the ones where I don't skip a single track. Winning days has some weak songs (tv pro, evil town) but also real masterpieces such as animal machine, winning days, amnesia. Vision valley is a bop, all the songs are there to be hummed and stay in your head forever. Melodia is their weakest work, however even in it there are beautiful songs like orange amber and true as the nigh. With future primitive they were trying to experiment with sound, 'all that you do' is an amazing song, wicked nature is a double disc with interesting moments like 'good enough', in miracle land works well in all its parts. Even if they certainly have lost the perfect balance of their beginning -that dark edge of highly evolved (title track, in the jungle, 1969) combined with the opposite ability to fill the room with perfect harmonies and simplicity and melancholy of their ballads (autumn shade, homesick, country yeard)- they have always been able to make excellent music, and Craig Nicholls is one of the best songwriters and singers around. I think nowadays, if a pop star is diagnosed with a disease or a condition they would be treated better than he was treated

Slow songs, horribly out of tune, no one could understand what was being said, people were standing around, the singer at one point poured a Coke over his head for reasons unknown... Then they played Get Free, place went ape complete with a mosh pit for two minutes then it was right back to standing around like "WTF is this???" Not surprised they didn't go anywhere.

@Christopher Bingham well that’s what happened a couple of years ago, with The Vines opening for Jet in Sydney. That’s mentioned at some point in this video and I was there. A really sad show from Nicholls, so embarrassing. I came mainly for them and ended up wishing it was over soon. On the other hand, Jet delivered a great performance.

I saw them 3 times, once with Jet who was tighter and they were just ok, another time they were just horrible, Craig screamed through every song, you could tell he was in emotional turmoil, he fought with the bass player on stage. The 3rd time was after the 2nd album and they were firing on all cylinders and one of the best shows I've ever seen. The first albums was full of great songs and the guy has a great voice, he just couldn't get dialed in every night.

IMHO, even though the band's history ultimately proved erratic, I still think Highly evolved was an awesome record, finding the sweet spot between nirvana-esque garage rock and 60-70's pop psychidelia, a unique sound that yielded great returns. Even Winning Days and Vision Valley had a few highlights. There's no one in my music playlists quite like them.

their first album is still an excellent one, it's really a shame that they couldn't keep it together. Craig always struck me as a guy who really loved the art of music but due to personal reasons was never really cut out for the "rock star" thing. Too much too fast sort of situation.

I neither like nor hate Dave Grohl, but cmon, sk8er boi? Gtfo with all that, Get Free was a cool track for it’s time. Those of us just coming of age back then we’re stoked to hear a new band playing heavy guitar with catchy melodies featuring a non macho singer really belting it out at a time when the Jonas brothers represented what being in a band was about for the rest of our brain dead classmates, and what’s more is they were easily accessible on the web which was our go to format after mtv, vh1, BET, etc went towards reality tv. I get the behavior issues making it difficult for the band to thrive, but they were absolutely a great rock band that gave a lot of us a certain green light to do whatever we wanted and not worry about conforming to sanitized expectations. Was it a phase? Of course. Don’t act like that isn’t worth something though, not every band has to rise to the highest echelons to have a worthy impact on creative culture in some way or another.

Craig was just a show off with insecurities and when it came to play live he was either on it or he'd wreck the show because he couldn't get the vocals right. He really struggled with is vocals which is what frustrated him the most. He's one of these singes that either has a great show or can be out of tune for the majority of it. The same thing happened on Jools Holland where he just couldn't get his voice in tune be it becaue of nerves or whtever but he was awful. As a musica maker, he's got tht genius thing going on as he is one of the best out there. His choice of songs for singles though needs to be questioned as a lot of trash has been put out. There are many beautiful songs that should have been singles but were left to rot instead.

Can you do a story on a band that came so so close to hitting. The band was called Stranger band. They had a major following in the south. This band was red hot. They signed a contract and went out to L.A. where the management or the record industry wouldn’t take them any further. In Florida/Georgia back in the 80’s and early 90’s would open for many major bans that toured the south. In smaller venues they sold the place out everywhere. They were a blues rock band that had a Van Halen meets STV feel. Then in the mid 90’s they broke up and the guitarist blew his brains out over it. I swear back then a truly fun night was getting to see them live ANYWHERE!!! I’ve seen them open for Triumph, Molly Hatchet, the Allman bros, and RUSH. Just a hands down fun band with a guitarist that just smoked out blues rock like few!

You have to remember the context of that era. I think all the similar bands at that time were overhyped by the rock press elites who were just so tired of whatever you call the post-grunge numetal garbage fest that was mainstream rock at that time. I vividly remember in college how fucking hyped the Strokes debut album was at that time. The press acted like they were some cultural milestone before anyone had listened to the album all the way through. Then I bought it and thought it sucked ass! The Vines put in some solid album work though.👍
