@@davebanfield6251 It's a shame that 90 percent of the people who bought Throwing Copper have probably never heard a single song off their best album (in our opinion, anyway). Mental Jewelry is superb, from start to finish. The Beauty of Gray is my favorite song of all-time. I saw Ed and the boys play a tiny club in Baltimore named Max's on Broadway in the spring of 1992. Definitely my most memorable concert experience ever. I was blown away by the depth/spirit/maturity of a bunch of 21 year-olds from small-town PA. I was in my late 20's at the time. I remember reading in a zine that some people were speculating that Ed's dad had written the lyrics to many of the songs, because of their maturity...and because he was their manager at the time, and traveled with the band. I'm sure that didn't last long. I didn't really follow their career much after that, other than hearing them on the radio and thinking how fortunate I was to see them in an unadulterated state. Lightning Crashes was brilliant--and the type of song I expected from them--but I didn't see that hard left-turn coming. And now I learn it was from all the fun and sun in Jamaica!

Their story is like your basic premise for a typical rock band movie; humble beginnings, surprising breakthrough, disillusioned success, record label sets them up for _the_ fight → the breakup → the reconciliation, the highly anticipated (but not as popular as once were) reunion on their early 40s and the comfortably average live gig in front of 100 people as the camera fades to credits. All jokes aside, nice story, I dig some of their stuff

It was literally the opposite of that. You were either rock or dance. You could not like both,or else. I can't even think what would happen, you weren't even spat on, you just didn't do it (you were mocked). Then the 2010's happened, a beat became mainstream, and everyone lightened up. Now you can like whatever you want. And it's the best.

I was in high school in the first half of the 90s and wasn't into the "mainstream alternative" bands in general, but none drove me as nuts as Live. Ever since I saw that slow-mo video where their faux-rocking-out was so pronounced, I thought they were the biggest phonies on the scene. Pretending to look tortured doesn't make you a good band, my dudes. After a few decades I have come to appreciate many of those bands - The Smashing Pumpkins for one - but Live still just sounds like bogus JC Penny rock to me.

Makes perfect sense for a kid wanting to be in a band with his Junior High buddies circa 1984 to audition with a Duran Duran song! Also good 80's business sense for financing a business venture with Junk Bond sales! And yes, "Throwing Copper" was a must listen album in my middle school years.

I remember working as a set PA with Ed Kowalczyk on a music video he did back in the 2001/2002. He did a feature vocal on a song for Tricky. One of the earliest experiences I had on a set, and at this time Live was already well known and I really was a fan of them in High School. So I was excited since this was a first time I was working with a known celebrity figure. But it was also my first experience dealing with his diva attitude. I recall he had a list of demands of how he wanted to be treated on set, didn't like that we were shooting late at night, and was generally somewhat moody to be around with
