I have to disagree. Michael Sweet has a great singing voice but never has meshed well with metal. His voice is too high. There are other metal singers with high ranges that sound much better i.e. Rob Halford, Bruce Dickinson, Geoff Tate, Jack Russell, Ronnie James Dio, Lenny Wolf, Joey Tempest and many others. I'm sorry that you experienced disappointment, but should emphasize that God isn't a vending machine that we deposit our coin ("prayer") into and expect results. I caught one of their bibles back in the 80s. It had a Stryper sticker across the back. The show was at the pacific amphitheater in Costa Mesa, CA. I’m pretty sure it was 1985 and Great White was the opening act (they were who I really wanted to see). Oh, and a friend of mine smuggled in a camera only to have it taken by a security guard half way through Stryper’s set.

Rez Band, Tamplin, Red Sea, & ... Stryper!! Had these all on a mixed tape cruising around etc. Mixed in well at parties. Led some people into some healthy discussions about their lives, where it's all going, their concepts of faith. Discovering that knowing Jesus didn't mean becoming a big pussy and loosing out on fun but rather that it gives each of us a real and solid internal platform for life. I met Michael Sweet at a concert. He came up touring in British Columbia. Nice guy very inspirational!

Stryper is still putting out great albums, and seem to be heavier than they were back in the mid to late 80’s (more metal than back then anyways). The Yellow & Black Attack & Soldiers Under Command were decent heavy albums, then they kind of went more pop and “hair metal” the next few albums. Their reunion album, “Reborn”, (2005) was really more of a hard rock / pop rock album….as was “Murder By Pride” (2009)….but “No More Hell To Pay” (2013) they started going back to the heavier sound with the gang vocals. In 2011, they released “The Covering”, which is a cover album of tunes that Stryper were influenced by, such as Kiss, Scorpions, Judas Priest, Iron Maiden, Ozzy and others. Also in 2013, they released “Second Coming”, where they re-recorded their biggest hit songs from the 80’s along with a new track as well! The last few albums have been heavier than their previous efforts and they continue to rock strong! The soon to be released “When We Were Kings” (2024) looks to be another melodic heavy metal / hard rock album by the band with their trademark melodies and harmonies and group vocals in the choruses! Bassist Perry Richardson (Firehouse) joined the Stryper in 2017, playing on the albums “God Damn Evil” (2018), “Even The Devil Believes” (2020), “The Final Battle” (2022), and the new album “When We Were Kings” (2024) and boy does Perry pack a walloping punch! Stryper Rocks!

I can remember these guys and how popular they were back in the 80’s. Lots of kids parents were ok with them because they were Christians. I can remember being forced to go to church when I was into Metallica and other metal and punk bands. I remember going into a Christian bookstore and seeing all the metal bands and discovering Christian death metal. I thought that was hilarious. I think “Benediction” was one that was actually pretty good.

Lifelong Stryper fan! Against The Law had some really good tracks on it. Two Time Woman & Not That Kind Of Guy, were my 2 least favorites on that album. They’re version of Shining Star, Rock The Hell Out Of You, All For One, all rocked!!! The ballad... Lady, was a great rockin’ bluesy ballad. Always thought that album was very under appreciated. Even though as a fan, I was also a little confused about the change in lyrics & missing black & yellow. Just saw them live at House Of Blues, in Orlando, before Covid & they rocked the house!!! They had Perry Richardson, the original base player for the band Firehouse on base & even did a sick cover of Don’t Treat Me Bad, by Firehouse. The band & Michael Sweet sounded amazing, compared to other band’s / vocalist’s from their era. Still rocking & MS is still hitting those insane high notes!!! Every new album they put out, rocks!!! 👆💪🔥

No More Hell To Pay is my favorite album of theirs, which I think Michael produced himself. Fallen to me felt like a downhill turn because it's too trashy for my taste, not to mention that the bass was nonexistent compared to the previous project. Still, God Damn Evil was like a roaring comeback that was soon heightened by their most recent album Even The Devil Believes. Very talented group with an amazing message to share 👌🙏
